Smith Flat House
First time at Smith flat House… Very good food… I had the black and white and my wife had the scallops… Emmerich was our waiter and did a phenomenal job! We will be going back!
Our friend from New Zealand said that this was the best meal that he had, in El Dorado County. The lamb shank was superb, as was the Black & White surf & turf. Our friend raves about the crab ravioli.
Our server was Emerick. Outstanding service! Our meal was delish, over the top. The fig, pear cobbler was amazing, ice cream homemade like custard. The evening perfect in every way.
The wait staff is off the charts. I've only been there a few times but I know the family and their dedication to quality.
My husband and I love coming to the Smith Flat house! You can make it what you want expense wise, meaning pizza and beer or lobster pasta and wine, and it's all wonderful! The ambiance gives an amazing historic feel but also keeps you modern with the staff and food. Highly recommend the Smith Flat house to everyone!
The pizza was wonderful and the service great. Our waiter was very attentive
Great food and ambiance. One of the nicest restaurants in Placerville that I've eaten that yet! The jazz trio on Sunday was wonderful.
Whenever I go to visit my grandparents, I must treat them to this fabulous restaurant! I have been here a handful of times already and it is my favorite please to have dinner. The food is amazing and the service is fantastic! The history of the building is also a bonus. I highly recommend eating here whenever you get the chance. You cannot go wrong with this special place.
Our favorite family gathering spot in the patio-wonderful food and service, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend!
It is very interesting as it is like a cave. The food was great. Our waiter sang happy birthday to our friend, while playing the piano. Service was real fast. There was no cell service down there but that I liked. You can eat outside and it looks so pretty out there.
The server was quite excellent in his menu knowledge and delivered the information to us quite joyously and proudly, which caused us to be totally excited about everything on the menu!! He was quite charming and very astute! The ambiance was very pleasant with a live band playing in the cellar-restaurant... which was very conducive to eating and having great conversation with each other! Yes, we do recommend it to others and will return!
Great place...classic, unique experience...good wine list and great service.
The main room was booked for another occasion and the only indoor seating was down a long flight of stairs. My mother in law is disabled so we had to sit outside in the heat. The food was fantastic but the ambiance was a bit of an issue.
Second time at Smith Flat House. First time was Valentines Day of this year, as that was memorable as not only were we seated in the Glass House, but it started to snow during dinner. Amazing experience.
Absolutely worth every penny. Great service from. Eric was so friendly and helpful. Very professional. Outstanding at piano. He made our 1st night out in forever very memorable. Our meal was quite something. Perfectly prepared and extremely fresh.
Not for handicapped. It was a hot day and eating outside was the only ADA available dining.
I can't say enough about how delicious our meals were and how the food was, and the attentiveness of the staff was great as well. The waiter even played us some tunes on the piano!
It was our first trip in to Smith Flat House for our anniversary dinner and it certainly won't be our last. Our waiter Emerick was phenominal and made recommendations after asking us some questions. The service was amazing, the food was top notch, and we were incredibly happy with our experience.
Great atmosphere, wonderful food and very personable and efficient servers! I always enjoy this restaurant!
We were celebrating my son and husbands birthdays. The only reason I rated service 3 stars is because they have a runner who serves the food. Therefore, the server does not see what is brought out. Our salads sounded so good, but when they came out only had large leaf spinach that was not de-stemmed, no Kalamata Olives, some halved Cherry Tomatoes and very few Pine Nuts. Our server, Emerick, is wonderful and had he served the plates, would have known.
The olives made a huge difference.
We love this restaurant. The food is always wonderful.
We've been to the Smith flat house a few times and its always great service and food but this time was exceptional all had the black and white we always say we need to branch out and try the other options but it's just so darn good it's hard to get away from it prawns and filet always cooked to perfection and our server Emmeret really went above and beyond to ensure our meal was special. Cant wait for our next visit.
I’ve been to The Smith Flat House many times. It’s been a fun place to sit outside and enjoy some yummy food. This time our waiter screwed up our pizza order. We were with our parents enjoying dinner their pizza came and ours did not. We had to wait an additional 30 minutes before our pizza was served. My parents were already done with their meal at that point. Then the waiter overcharged me with an additional glass of wine that I never got. I was pretty displeased. I am not sure I will return sadly although I do enjoy the atmosphere a lot.
The experience of dining at Smith Flat House is amazing. We take our out of town guests to the Marshall Gold Discovery Park during the day and finish with dinner in a mine shaft! Food and service was excellent.
The setting is a beautiful old barn in a sleeping Gold Rush town. Downstairs are cigarette burns from the original bar during the Goldrush days. The menu was pretty big with choices for every taste. Nothing disappointed.
We look forward to going there and always like to bring new friends to try it out. I noticed that the menu has changed with a lot of sea food. As a matter of fact, I consider Smith Flat House a seafood restaurant. No worries, the rest of my family loves seafood and I always find something on the menu.
Great staff and excellent food.
The food was awesome. Emerick, our server, was outstanding.
A gem - great menu, food was prepped and presented extremely well. Will be back.
It is a little difficult to get there, but once you are there and if you chose outdoor dining, it is very spacious. We had live music on the sunday night we were there and it was very nice. We were able to bring our dog with us and that was especially nice. the food was excellent. the service was friendly. I would go back again.
Three of us met for the second time for dinner at Smith Flat House. The first time we ate inside (downstairs) in the summer. VERY hot. I could not really enjoy the meal because it was just too hot.
This time, we asked to sit outside, which can be a risk during the summer as it can stay hot in that area until quite late, but it was perfect. The outdoor seating is not fancy (which is fine with me), but it's comfortable. I think it would be nice if they'd add a fountain or two. There's a covered area to protect from direct sun and the tables outside the covered area all have umbrellas. I suppose if it's really hot out, it could get uncomfortable.
If you have any mobility issues, outside seating would be perfect. There's an entrance into that area from the parking lot. The staff is very nice so I'm sure if you let them know when you made your reservation, they'd be very happy to assist.
This time we tried the black and white (filet mignon and shrimp with bearnaise sauce), the eggplant and the bouillabaisse. Everything was wonderful. The filet was cooked as requested, shrimp wasn't overcooked, the scallop on the bouillabaisse was cooked properly and the flavors were good. The bread with their yummy pesto/sun-dried tomato butter is good, but the portions are generous so don't fill up!
I highly recommend this place if you want a very tasty, not-too-expensive meal in a nice atmosphere with attentive and kind service.
Nice place for outside dining in the spring and fall. Ok in the summer if you are in the shade.
our family had a wonderful time. the cave is unique and the girls loved it!
Menu is terrific, a little pricey but portions are very large. I'd suggest diners with small appetites share an appetizer and entree and then you will have room for a dessert. I had the bouillabaisse with fresh halibut, shrimp, mussels, sea scallop and grilled bread for dipping in the sauce - YUM! The duck con-fit appetizer was outstanding and enough for three people. We sat outside and it was serene (no noisy children) and the server was superb.
The music was too loud. I have hard time with people dogs out on the patio where people are eating. The price I paid for this dinner neither of these should be an iss
We originally chose to be seated on the patio but it was a bit warm and noisy so we requested to be moved to the cellar, much better! Service was impeccable and the food was fabulous, will definitely go back!
Excellent food!! Great service , and a wonderful atmosphere! Would recommend
Great place to go for special meal or quiet regular get away. Can't beat the venue, service or great list of local vino...
Great restaurant. Would like to see more steak choices. Will be coming back.
We’ve been to Smith Flat many times and the food and service is always excellent. Great wine selection also. You can even talk Emrick into playing the piano.
Great atmosphere with good service, good food & great desserts. Wine list needs to be expanded.
