The food was absolutely amazing! I had the hanger steak with potatoes gratin, and I am still dreaming about them! My date shared some of her butter chicken, and it was equally delicious! The drinks were a little pricey, but all-in-all, I had a wonderful experience with amazing food.

Loved the restaurant and the sunday brunch! Big servings for nice price. My only issue with this restaurant is the PARKING! It's absolutely NO WHERE to park. Road around for 15mins looking for parking and had to park about 5 blocks down the street. Definitely took an uber back to my car afterwards.

Our "go to" place on H Street. We've never had a bad meal. Love the salmon and butter chicken. Servers are personable and remember you. All around great dining asset.

We were sitting near the back on a cold night. For some reason a staff person would open and leave the back door open allowing a cold breeze to hit us and our table. We asked the first time and our waiter took his time closing the door. The slowness of our waiter caused me to notice our appetizer plates were not cleared by the food runner, our busboy or our waiter, after the main courses arrived. The second time it was left open we asked another person since our waiter was not nearby. It seemed odd the staff didn't convey to coworkers that leaving the door open was a problem for customers. We ate quickly and left within an hour. The food was fine, it did not make up for the cold and poor service, and I would not go again in winter.

Terrible service! Rude hostess who was busy sitting at a booth and chatting with her friends instead of seating us. Plus a waitress who was too busy texting to notice that only 1 of our 4 entrees came to our table.

I brought in guests from several corners of the world (australia, Ireland) and they loved everything about the restaurant. The food was delicious, presentation was fabulous. Nothing disappointed.

This was an after a matinee dinner on a Sunday, so we got in just at the beginning of dinner. The staff was very friendly; the circumstances that I saw online was true - the music was much too loud for two seniors (we asked them to turn it down and they did immediately); as they got crowded the noise level got louder (I think it is because young people just seem to talk loud😂). Now for the 5 star review - I had the Lamb Crops and they were simply divine- the best I have ever had!! My friend had the shrimp scampi and she said it was delicious- I did not take her up on her offer to sample, because I so busy licking my plate!! Even with the noise level a little louder than I liked - I certainly will/would go back!!

The Jazz brunch was a fantastic first date!! We ordered the salmon hash and the biscuits and gravy as starters not knowing it was going to be a full meal. We had to try the fries and they are hands down the best I’ve had with their special sauce. Bottomless mimosas added the perfect touch.

The food was amazing and huge portions! Started with the charcuterie board and we were stuffed by the end of it. I highly suggest the duck and the truffle mac and cheese! I will be having them both as leftovers for lunch today. The noise level is loud but it's what you expect from a bar.

The food was very good and well presented and I enjoyed the wine list. I have now been here 3 times hoping that the first two times problems were due to its recent opening, however, the service is still lacking for the price. It is also lacking a clear theme, is it a neighborhood eatery or an upscale restaurant? I feel like it has promise but the frequent understaffing and behavior of the servers is lackluster.

This was my first experience at this H Street restaurant . The lamb chops were recommended by the waiter and they were delicious. There was a reception on the third floor to preview the space for events. The complimentary food and open bar were well received. I will return and have told friends they can put Smith Commons on the list of places to go for a great dining experience.

The food was good and I liked the space. We were there for brunch on Sunday which turned out to be a live jazz brunch. I liked the live music, however the space was very noisy and it was hard to hear my friends over the noise. Perhaps some rugs or wall hangings would make it less raucous so you could carry on a conversation without yelling.

Great food and service only one complaint is that they sat my table of 4 (with a reservation) and placed us at a two person table. when we asked to move to the open 4 person table next to us they said it was already reserved and then they proceeded to sit two individuals there for their meal. Becides that great food and service.

I wanted to share a musical experience with a special friend. So I made reservations. However, walking in the door, a table of ladies very loud, which I didn't care for. And a group was celebrating and it was as if they were the only ones in the restaurant. The band ended earlier than 3pm.

Sriracha put on everything: vegetable flatbread appetizer, salmon and duck breast entrees. This is not welcome when my dining companion's stomach protests violently and I dislike the taste. The waiter and cook were excellent on not including any tomatoes per our requests, but we had no way of knowing that sriracha, albeit in small but quite discernible amounts, was to be put on everything. When this was brought to their attention, they did provide some rolls and butter to assist in muting the impact of inadvertently eaten spice. The flatbread, listed as an appetizer, was delivered at the same time as the entrees, which were listed as entrees. Again we had no way of knowing that we needed to declare that the appetizer was to be served first by itself. The salmon ordered medium was served well done. The duck breast ordered medium rare was tough. This was pre-theater on a Wednesday evening and although the restaurant was slowly filling up, it felt endless between drinks being served and all the food arriving at the same time.

Something for everyone here. And it's all delicious and well priced. We ate early at 5 pm but as meal went on it became louder and louder-- too loud really to talk. Maybe something could be added to absorb the sound? But I am over 50!!

LOVE!
It's always so refreshing to find a new place to dine that exceeds one's expectations. My friend and I were attending a performance at Atlas and we don't frequent the H Street Corridor, but the reviews for Smith Commons were so good we decided to try it out. First of all, our waiter, Hugo, was exceptionally attentive and knowledgeable. His suggestions were absolutely spot-on. We started with a Pisco cocktail that was out of this world, and we were torn among several entrees so Hugo guided us through the menu and we ultimately settled on the cheese ravioli with vegetables and curry sauce and the sea scallops with corn and arugula. Both were exceptional and inventive--perfectly prepared and seasoned, with a mix of flavors that was sublime. The drinks and the meal were savory and delectable, and Hugo's friendly expertise was greatly appreciated!
The ambience is fun and casual--exposed brick walls, lots of wood--and the prices are reasonable. We'll be back, even without Atlas tickets!
