Smith Commons is a different kind of dining destination in Washington, D.C., serving artfully crafted dishes prepared by chefs with multi continental flare, without the white tablecloths or the pretense. Executive Chef Kamal Chanaka creates a fresh new menu each month, with inspirations from around the globe and from the greater mid-Atlantic region.

There are much better options on H Street.
It was nice but as the evening switched over to more of a club, the music levels kept going up-and-down. It was OK once you were use to the new music level.
We went to brunch as a party of 8 to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The restaurant seated us at our reservation time and the wait service was immediate and attentive. The kitchen accommodated our additions and special requests with ease. All of food was prepared exactly how we ordered it, which is a huge accomplishment for a large party. The food itself was amazing!! And the bottomless bellinis flowed generously. A fantastic experience. Thank you for making my friend’s birthday celebration seamless and special.
Very nice and quaint spot. Food was very good and the space was quiet enough to enjoy conversation.
Phenomenal food and service. Absolutely can’t wait to ret
Food was amazing and inexpensive. I got lobster curry which was the best meal I have had in months. It was a full lobster tail for $18. Crazy cheap. My date got the tacos and he said they were excellent. Waitress was very responsive. We’ll definitely be back.
We want to frequent this place and claim it as a favorite neighborhood spot. But the decibel again and again proves to be the hindrance. Too loud. We had to change seating just to not shout at each other. In this past visit one of the servers was sitting at the bar eating her lunch, taking breaks to server her customers. That was weird.
Food was delicious, including the vegetables. Food was served hot. Had the duck which was tender, not greasy and seasoned to perfection. This is my 3rd time at this restaurant and so far, it hasn't disappointed.
Excellent food, generous portions and a great value found within a friendly neighborhood community. We had the Sunday Brunch which offered unique approaches to traditional plates.
I went there for brunch. The menu is exceptional
Great food at a reasonable price in the H Street neighborhood!
We had several people recommend Smith while we vacationed in Washington DC. It didn't disappoint, although service was spotty. Kudos to our server who was attentive and gracious in helping us on wine selection and even the entrees. The hanger steak was incredible. My salmon dish was equally very good, as were our friend's dishes. The only issue we had was the entrees came out at different times which we didn't understand. Besides that minor issue, we would highly recommend Smith.
Great as usual
Food was good and great atmospheric
We were seated at 12pm and then asked at 12:30pm to move to a different table or the bar area by 1:30pm because they over booked the section we sat at. That was no problem! But at 12:38 the hostess kept coming over to our table looking to see if we were done, then at 12:45 they asked us to move. It was very very very inconsiderate.
Good food, and nice presentation in a friendly atmosphere.
Love love love the ambiance. Great for a romantic date or even a girlfriend’s birthday celebration. The design of the restaurant is beautiful.
Food was good but not what the pictures on the Internet showed. Was told menu was outdated by the server. Overall, it was cooked good and had good flavor but after seeing pictures and reviews online, I had a different idea of what I was actually going there for. Very loud inside, and in not such a great part of town. Peddlers were in the restaurant asking for money while we were trying to have dinner. Too pricey for what you're getting. Pictures make it look a lot nicer. Too pricey for what you're getting.
Always a wonderful experience for brunch and and with our server Hugo.
perfection. staff absolutely great. Food georgous!
Stopped by for a solo late dinner and surprisingly they had the US Open Women's semi-finals match on. Bartender Ernesto helped me out with the best food and wine options since this was my first time here. The spare rib tips are amazing. The ambience is lovely and most importantly, it's black owned. I look forward to coming back here and trying out their brunch!
Advice - if you don't want "high energy" or lots of noise, don't come on the weekend to eat dinner. But yes, come on over to eat. Food was great!!!!! Each of the dishes we ordered was top notch. Mussels in Thai curry with great chunk of bread that had been grilled, the BBQ rib appetizer was delicious; the 4 lamb chops were cooked just right and the accompanying vegetables were perfect. Salad was subsantial and the raw tuna appetizer delightful.
So yes, going for the food is well worth it , just check to see what's happening that night.
We'll go back on a quieter night.
This was a great Brunch experience. The service lack some but the food made up for it.
We really like Smith Commons. We go on the early side because the noise levels get too high for us. Great menu. Presentation and taste is great.
Very good menu and the food was outstanding. Great service and a fun bar. Will go back when in D.C.
The good - food, drinks, prices, service
The bad - the noise level is terrible in there and the bathrooms are horrific
Enjoyed the food and service. We are a group a ladies traveling to various restaurants throughout the DMA. Smith Commons was on our Agenda for this past Saturday. Will provide additional comments on our Facebook page.
Great food and great service!
We had an outstanding waiter! He was friendly, attentive and accommodating. My daughter ordered the French toast and didn’t realize it had nuts, which she doesn’t like. He willingly took it back and invited a different order. The manager then came over and repeated that it was no problem and her new order would follow soon. Really good service. The noise level was pretty high so not good for business dining. We had a great time. It’s a friendly space with nice rustic decor. 3 floors. The food was decent, but not extraordinary. Totally worth the visit for the good service and good time.
The food is outstanding. Our table was located next to the server computer. We constantly had a "third" person at our table when the server leaned over to enter their order. We would have had a completely delightful experience at another table.
We looove going to Smith Commons for brunch. We love their bottomless mimosas.
Our favorite server is Hugo and we ALWAYS ask for him. The experience is even better with him. I always recommend this place to my friends when looking for a brunch place. You’ll not be disappointed!
Fantastic food coupled with a sense that this restaurant understands hospitality. It will exceed your expectations. Love this place!
my first time and it reminded me of cafe experience i have in the city
(new york city)
The server was not very attentive. We had to search for him to refill drinks or ask for condiments. However, our food was AMAZING!
The food was delicious and our server was very pleasant and accommodating. I enjoyed the entire experience, and would recommend Smith Commons. Our party enjoyed appetizers and entrees before we went to the Mosaic Theatre for a performance. It was a lovely evening.
Ernesto was wonderful. I always enjoy my time at the restaurant.
Food presentation was beautiful. Food taste was great. Price was average.
Service was impeccable
We arrived at Smith Commons and was seated immediately. We enjoyed the wide selection of beers and other beverages. Additionally, the food was really great. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food and raves about it!
Stellar food and service
Great food and service. Restaurant was very noisy. Difficult to hear conversations.
