Smith & Wollensky is pricey, but you pay for everything from the service, comfort, ambiance and most especially the food made to perfection. Our server, Jean-Luc, made the experience a special treat with his knowledge of the menu, charm and attentiveness.
Great food and server. My only comment is that the Ipad wine list is not easy to use. Our server struggled with it. Having used tablets before for food and wine menus, this stands out as being more difficult than it should be.
Nice for lunch. Not crowded at all. Terrific service. Portions are large and food is quite rich. Indulgent!
We have dined here 8-10 times since it opened in Wellesley. It has gone completely downhill since we first started going. They are completely understaffed, our waiter ended up bussing our table as there were to few staff. 2.5 hours from being seated to served dinner; 20 minutes to get a 2nd glass of wine, etc.
It’s not fast food, but it is far short of the Smith and Wollensky standard, or any $100/person dinner for that matter. Next time we make the trek into town.
The restaurant seems too packed and bland for an expensive meal out. We were seated in the back room which felt like we were in a conference room (TV over shoulder) at some corporate hotel. Other areas of the restaurant seemed to have better design. We were almost touching elbows with the next table and the tables were too close for a private conversation. The meal also took a very long time to arrive - the waitress was apologizing profusely and acknowledging the issue. We also felt that the food portions were less than listed. The downtown experience at the armory seemed much more special and differentiated. Not what we were expecting for a S&W experience.
The food is good but terribly overpriced.
I don’t usually leave reviews like this but the food was plain bad.
As long as you are prepared for a little bit of sticker shock you will come away feeling delighted with the food and the service. Steaks are high quality with creative takes on the usual sides. We had the PEI mussels and they were delicious! Believe them when they say the salads are huge! And you can order half servings and they are MORE than enough. Did I say the steaks were high quality and perfectly cooked as ordered? Big enough for even the biggest appetites to still go home with the S & W Lucky Dog bag! Our server was friendly and attentive. We will be back.
Top choice steaks! Each and every bite was mouthwatering to say the least. Great wine selection and menu.
Not a great experience. Seats were too close and the steak was not cooked as ordered. Strega Prime got it right the first time.
To start the night we arrived on time for our reservation but were not seated right away so we went to the bar for a drink. 25 minutes later we still were not seated so we asked to eat at the bar but no one seemed to care that we had not been seated promptly. The bar staff was lovely, attentive. We started out with a tuna poke that was delicious, small serving but delicious. I ordered a caesar with salmon which was cooked perfectly crisp. My husband ordered a cajun bone in rib eye medium rare. It happen to be a particularly fatty piece and was cooked medium to medium well at best. It also did not taste like cajun much at all. We got two sides, asparagus and truffle mac n cheese (very small to share for two). Not sure we'll go back because it was not a good value for being brushed off and sub par food for a Smith and Wollensky standard in comparison for the bill we paid for it all.
Valentines Day dinner. We had the tomahawk which was outstanding. Catherine our server was excellent and made our dinning experience very nice.
Went for Valentines Day dinner. Food was excellent. Steaks cooked perfectly. Coconut cake perfect dessert.
Great food, great service, nice ambiance. My wife and i had a lovely night out there for Valentine's Day
This is a neighborhood gem! Great food, service and ambiance without the hassle of having to go to Boston!
Pleasant restaurant for a weekend dinner with friend. The food was typical steakhouse fare, but pretty average. We started with a shrimp cocktail. They were fine, but nothing special. They were served on a large plate, looking somewhat lonely. We shared tuna for our main course. It was rare, as we had requested and very fresh. There were a number of empty tables, so the restaurant was quiet and pleasant for conversation.
Shrimp cocktail had no flavor. I ordered filet with foie gras truffle butter. The steak was excellent, but no hint of truffles or foie gras. Excellent wine selection, good service. Steak frites good.
Our 2nd time visiting and we were not disappointed. We had the nightly wine dinner. It was fantastic!
Service was excellent, our server was so attentive-could not have asked for better.
Highly recommend Smith & Wollensky in Wellesley. Such a great addition.
Wonderful evening on all fronts. Just a little pricey for a regular night out.
We’ve been to other S&Ws and this one doesn’t disappoint. Top rate service and class decor make dinning here a pleasure. Not to mention the perfectly prepared steaks (this time sirloin and filet). We joined the wine dinner offering which seemed to deliver slightly smaller portions but exactly the same high quality as normal sizes.
well, let's see. the food was perfect, completely perfect. the waitress was a master politician. the deal fixed price deal was a total steal. yeah, it was off the charts.
A mediocre experience at S&W this past weekend. Hits: The creamed spinach was excellent. Also, they were running a promo that offered basically the entire menu for $80/pp with unlimited wine pours. I got the exact meal that I was planning on ordering for less than 1/2 the price, so form that standpoint, it was a "deal".
Misses: The unlimited wines weren't great, I actually ordered a Coravin wine to compliment my steak since the cab they were pouring was sub par. Also, the steak was incredibly under seasoned. I had to salt it and then used their house steak sauce (sacrilege) on my bone-in rib-eye. My wife's steak was equally unseasoned. I also overheard our table neighbor commenting on how flavorless their food was...so clearly it was an issue. Just for final points, while most of the steak was prepared at med-rare, the near-bone areas were raw. Deep purple, ice cold, raw.
All in all, I probably wouldn't come back for dinner, especially at the prices that they are charging when there isn't a promo going on. The atmosphere and restaurant is nice though and I could see sliding in for a nice glass of wine or a cocktail as there isn't much else in Wellesley. Its a shame because I continue to look for a go-to spot in Metrowest. Sadly, this ain't it chief.
Very good restaurant and our waitress, Karen, was wonderful. A little overpriced, as it lacks the presentation of some of the other high end steak houses in the area - and the sides were underwhelming. Great steaks though!!!!!
Was seated in back empty room, lack of ambiance. Food was mediocre at best. Caesar salad was particularly mushy and over dressed. French fries were soggy. Steak was only highlight but was sitting on a bed of tasteless onion ring chips. Waitress tried hard.
From our check-in with the host, who set a positive tone to our attentive, polished, waiter the service was impressive.
They provided a quiet spot, as requested, the food/drinks met expectations ~ as we look forward to returning.
I was so disappointed with the food. The mashed potatoes were oily and salty. The Brussels sprouts were vinegary. I ordered a filet Oscar style. For an extra $14 there was very little lump crab and the asparagus was cut into small pieces. Overpriced, not worth the money. I expect to have five star food for 5 $$$.
Smith & Wollensky got their new, smaller restaurant model right! Everything was spot on! The food, wine, service & ambiance were all excellent. We'd happily go back and recommend others to do the same.
While I keep going back, praying the service will get better, i continue to be disappointed. My 12 or 13 time there and each time the service is so sub-par. Food is great and like that it is a two minute drive home, but they need to get their act together on the service levels
It’s so over priced it’s stupid. Clam chowder was bland. Steak was fine, not special. Seafood tower just meh. Just nowhere near what you’d expect for the price.
Service was great. Main course just okay unfortunately. Cheesecake and wine excellent - but wine is over - priced.
Rachel (manager) and Jean Philippe (server) were terrific. Presentation and food were out of this world!
Excellent service and steak was cook to perfection.
We love the new location and the menu options are excellent.
The evening began with an 8pm reservation. We arrived at 7:50withe several tables vacant when we arrived. We were a table of 4 and finally seemed 8:10 in a very noisy section, despite quieter tables. Service was inordinately slow, food was as average, definitely not worth the prices!
We went there to run away from our kids for at least a couple of hours hahaha.
Food was great, service was outstanding. It is a bit pricey but it is worth every single penny!!
Not ideal for kids, menu is not exactly kid friendly.
Food was terrific. Our server was very sweet. But the restaurant was very busy. It took over 30 minutes to get our oyster appetizer. Food was generally very slow coming out; but since it was a birthday dinner, we were in no hurry. This was a Saturday. Must have reservations; they were booked solid.
Tonight was my first night at Smith and Wollenskys ‘s in Wellesley. Great location and great for a birthday celebration! Everything was perfect from being greeted at the door, to taking my coat. I have to say our waiter JC made our night. His customer service to our table was amazing! His attention to detail second to none! Smith and Wollenskys has a great name but I would definitely return due to the service!
We were put in a side room that felt like we were isolated The food was not worth the money So many better steak houses to go to Will not go back
I really like S&W but he last few times I have been disappointed with the steak, the texture felt almost steamed. I have ben to the location in the Seaport ad found the steak to be great, both visits to Wellesley were less than great... The service is great, the vibe is good but the steak needs to be great!
Food was terrific but a bit overpriced compared to other high end steakhouses like Ruth Chris. Also, they must add a baked potatoes to the menu!
