  • Great for fine wines
Smith and Wollensky steak house serves USDA prime beef from select family-feeder farms in Iowa in an effort to bring the best taste to the customer. Savor the flavor of twin tournedos wrapped in bacon or the Kansas City cut sirloin that has been cooked to perfection. Try the Cajun-marinated bone-in rib eye for a new flavor or stick with a classic boneless New York strip steak. Smith and Wollensky also offers Colorado lamb chops, family-farmed veal rib eye and Faroe Island salmon steak for guests who want to venture away from beef. Pair a glass of wine with an Alaskan red king crab cocktail or a chilled Maine lobster to make the evening unforgettable. Smith and Wollensky features many international red and white wines that are meant to complement your choice of entre.

Took my wife here for Valentine's day and we had the most amazing time. Great food and even better service! Will make this a regular dinner spot from now on. Our server was Wales G. and he was outstanding! Made us laugh and knew every item on the menu and which wines to pair with them. He should be in management very soon.

Seriously - this place is really overrated. The decor on its best days is moderate mid-priced mid-century restaurant. It doesn't feel like the clubby older steak house or the modern upscale steak house. Just stale. The service was just plain bad. We waited 20 minutes for a soda, the entire food service was rushed. If I am paying over $ 200 for valentines dinner I wanted to dine, not feel like I am in a diner. The only thing that was decent was the steak, and that was not the most amazing steak I had ever had. The side dishes - the mashed potatoes were soupy and the cheddar bacon tater tots well let's say the bacon was all lard making the tots kind of inedible. I was definitely disappointed in this restaurant. I have been to other S&W and even to this one before, but this was really underwhelming, and would have me choose another steak house for my next dining experience.

Let's start w/ the bad ... we sat for 15 minutes before seeing a server, when we finally saw her she cleared the table next to us instead of greeting us & maybe taking a drink order. 20 minutes later we are finally greeted - she was very nice, but after 20 minutes I didn't want to hear about her favorite steak - take our drink order, apologize and let's go. About 10 more minutes go by, we still have no drinks. We are starting to regret our dinner choice. Enter Jordan. A new server approaches and with a great personal touch - he apologizes, explains that S&W practices a team approach & that he is going to be taking over for our previous server, he bring us our drinks right away, along w/ bread and takes our appetizer order. He was incredibly attentive, and salvaged our dining experience. Granted we sat for 90 minutes before our food came out, but the food was outstanding & truthfully I didn't come here for a fast food experience so I was ok with it, and given that it was a date w/ my beautiful wife I enjoyed the time with her. Overall this was a good experience, but if our waiter Jordan hadn't intervened it could have gone south. Bone in Sirloin was really, really good.

I had high expectations for my Wife and I are our Valentine's day Dinner, but unfortunately we were disappointed. There was one waiter for about 30 tables, although he was pleant, he was stressed and spread thin, he was forgetting orders and I could see many others as disappointed as we were . We ordered an appetizer that never arrived, we sat with empty water glasses for quite some time. I ordered a small bottle of Champagne (way over priced), had considered another glass of wine with dinner, but was never given the opportunity due to the aforementioned waiter. Although staff apologized and we were given a dessert at no charge, a restaurant that is charging so much for their entree's really should not have such blatant challenges. No repeat business from me, too many other great options in the area.

I had the ribeye, and it was as close to perfect as a ribeye can be, and worth every penny. The bread served before dinner was good, and came with whipped butter. That being said, the rest of the food was average, and not close to worth the prices that were charged. Your main course comes with no sides (sides are $15-20 for a 2-person serving), I had asparagus, which was significantly undercooked and the ends hadn't been cleaned. The scallop appetizer was good, but again, overpriced; over $20 for 3 scallops that, again, hadn't been properly cleaned, and a hunk of pretty good bacon. Drinks are pretty standard DC prices, expect to pay around $15 for a glass of wine or a cocktail. The server was quite pushy, insisting that we should get more sides, another glass of wine, multiple deserts or after dinner drinks. He didn't seem to accept that we weren't going to order twice the food we could possibly eat. It took about 35~40 minutes to get the check. Again, the server tried to get us to order more after we had already asked for the check, then brought us a check with 2 items on it that we hadn't ordered. It took him about 10 minutes to come back to our table after we asked for the check, and it took 4 visits from him for us to actually pay our bill.

We had a group of 16 (8 couples). When Chelsea contact me earlier that day to confirm I advised her on the occasion. We arrived and spent about 45 minutes at the bar with great drinks. Then were were escorted to the 2nd floor to our on room by Chelsea and the GM, who introduced himself to me and made us feel very welcome. We had a spacious dining area with a view of the City Street. We were provided music of our choice as well. The food was great and we were able to enjoy the night without the worry of disturbing the other patrons in the restaurant. Very good night!
