Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse - Miami Ratings and Reviews
The service would have been better if we were not ignored when we arrived to be seated on the waterfront. We stood there waiting to be greeted and seated to find two servers talking to each other. They saw us but did not acknowledge us. After a couple of minutes the bartender asked the servers to help us. Also, the server assistant offered bread to every table except for ours. My iced tea was refilled, but with no ice. As a server at a 5 Star establishment, I know what service should be like and am disappointed at the service we received.
We were seated at our table at 4:15 and by 4:40 no one had approached the table - we went to leave and the manager did a good job of moving us to a lovely location on the second floor - the food was very good but unfortunately our server was poor (Remy) - the location is fantastic but based on the service experiences I could not recommend. I have been to the S & W in NYC often and I do recommend that location
We came in with high hopes for this meal, unfortunately it didn't live up to them. I'll start by saying that the staff's attentiveness was amazing. Great service and everyone was super friendly. They even gave me a birthday card and a giant birthday cake slice. It was all greatly appreciated and made the visits very special. However, the main attraction which was the food, did not live up to the rest of the experience. I was told the 24 oz. dry-aged steak was highly recommended and what everyone came here to eat, so I got it and my fiancee got the Tuna. The Tuna was ok, nothing special and nothing really wrong with it. The steak was cooked to the right temperature, but it was chewy and it lacked flavor. It was also 30% bone, 30% meat and 40% fat. Don't get me wrong, I love some fatty on the steak and good marbling, but this was more of an obese cut than juicy. Half of it was left on the plate. If I'm spending almost $100 on a piece of meat I expect to be wowed, and I was, but not the way I wanted. Overall, staff is excellent but doesn't make up for the product.
Table & crockery dirty, was told to sit anywhere. Waited 20 minutes before we got a menu. Nice food but terrible service. Would not expect that for an expensive restaurant, this ruined our evening as was celebrating husband’s birthday. I wish we had got up & left. Better steak places elsewhere. Don’t waste your money here.
It is a real pitty to choose this restaurant ‘all American food’ among many other options to spend Thanksgiving dinner and getting there to find out at 9:30 pm the famous restaurant is out of its thanksgiving menu. This speaks poorly of a restaurant with such I high level or recomendation and prizes. Did they really think we would order what they did had? Their regular menu??? Not likely ‘cause it was not a REGULAR DAY!!
My reservations were at 7:15pm and we were sat within 15-20 minutes of arrival. Our waiter Chris came over and provided the menus, but seemed very distracted and in a hurry to be somewhere else. He offered us water, but never even asked if we wanted anything else to drink or explained the menu options.
We waited patiently for Chris to come and take our order. I ordered sides for my children because they couldn't wait any longer and luckily they came out immediately and were delicious. Our salad came out, but it didn't have any dressing. When Chris finally came by to check on us, he asked if we had received our soup, which we hadn't and he left again. The soup was probably the only tasteful plate we had, aside from the sides that I ordered for my children. After the soup we waited another 20 minutes or more for the main dishes to come out. The turkey tasted very sour and weird, like if it hadn’t been cooked properly. We advised Chris and he called a manager. The manager came over, we explained the food didn't taste well, he looked at us and walked away. I would have expected a manager to say something, perhaps even apologize, but he acted like he had something else to do.
They cleared the table and then Chris brought the dessert menus. We asked for pumpkin pie and he advised "I'm sorry, but we had over 2,000 reservations today and there is no more of the Thanksgiving desserts left. That is why I brought you the regular dessert menu and we removed the dinner fee. You will only be charged for drinks and dessert." I responded that "we made a reservation like those other 2,000 people and next time he should be forthright and just say they ran out, not give us the other menu and try to mislead us. It's not our fault that the restaurant did not plan accordingly for the amount of people that they had to serve and he could have handled it differently." He apologized again. We ordered dessert and coffee, ate, paid and left. Never again!
Totally disappointing. We were seated in a side room on plastic folding chairs. The service was deplorable and the holiday meal inedible. Those of us that stuck to the usual appetizers and steaks enjoyed the food. However I would recommend that anyone avoid this restaurant on a day that they tried to serve 1400 people. In my fifteen years of eating here this was by far a negative 10 of any experience and I was embarrassed to have hosted it
Five of us went for Thanksgiving. I feel really bad leaving a bad review on Thanksgiving because I have so much to be thankful for in many ways. However, since all five adults found the experience so poor and the food inedible, I think people need to know.
First of all, the service was very poor. Besides taking our initial order, out waiter wasn’t to be seen until we flagged him down to ask him why, at 6:15pm (we had a 4:30 seating) our main course had not been brought when tables of larger parties who had seated after us were eating theirs. He was apologetic and got the manager - who told us because one in our party ordered steak (at a steakhouse - shocker!), and the rest of us ordered the set Thanksgiving dinner - the kitchens didn’t communicate and there was a screw up.
Twenty minutes later - we were ready to leave without eating butbefore we got the chance the meals came. Every one of us was highly disappointed. The turkey was salty, the ribeye was very thin and salty, the potatoes ordered as a side with the ribeye were almost as if they forgot the potato in lieu of salt, and the sides to the thanksgiving meal left much to be desired. If this were just me I wouldn’t be writing this review, but the whole table felt this way.
The main course was taken away and again, fifteen minutes later, without dessert yet being brought, we said we just wanted the check to leave. They rushed out with desserts - which by that point we didn’t want - and they left much to be desired.
The manager offered us a round of drinks on him - but that truly would not have helped anything. The lack of service, the poor food, and the poor attention would leave me to tell anyone to avoid this restaurant. I’ve been to many different steakhouses all over the country - I would never go back to this one and I would NEVER recommend Smith & Wollensky to anyone. In fact, buyer beware. Go elsewhere if you can. It is not worth it.
The meal used to be family style with mashed potatoes and gravy and all. Missed that style. Cranberry sauce bowl. They plated in the kitchen and no mashed potatoes. Just lost the family feeling. Shame. It had become a family tradition with us to be with you.
I was not impressed with S&W on this visit with our party of five. I will attribute the situation to the fact that it was Thanksgiving Day and the focus was on providing a typical Thanksgiving meal which was the fixed menu of the day. It took way too long to be served our bottled water and our cocktails....approximately 45 minutes from when we were seated. The room we were in was exceptionally hot throughout the meal with other patrons complaining about the temperature....greenhouse heating without sufficient AC vents.
We will give S&W another chance in the future but will go when the menu is the standard dinner menu and will be careful as to where we are seated.
We LOVE going to Smith & Wollensky’s, sitting outside and watching the cruise ships go by. Love Jennifer at the bar, who we look forward to seeing and chatting with. She makes wonderful drinks and is helpful and suggestive of where to go when visiting Miami.
Great food, great service and amazing atmosphere. The best of South Beach! Highly recommend!
Have never had a bad experience at SW over the years at Miami and NY locations until last night. Meal not served to correct order, when returned just quickly microwaved and no better. Other orders not at level of past experiences, everyone left disappointed. Server did remove order from the bill but when one person out of a group of four didn’t get what they wanted with the others it spoils the experience.
