Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse - Columbus Ratings and Reviews
It was Valentine's Day so it was busy and packed as expected. I was surprised how many people were there like it was a normal event. Judging by the prices on the menu I figured only couples would be there. But I guess they have customers that have more money to spend than I do, because there were two families seated nearby with small children. Another table nearby had a loud group celebrating a birthday.
The food however was excellent. We ordered a Caeser salad that we split and enjoyed it with the bread brought to the table.
Next came our drinks. My date had a wine that she enjoyed and I had a Manhattan made with Maker's Mark. It was quite good!
We ordered two sides with our dinner, the potato croquettes and the creamy spinach. I enjoyed the spinach but my date and I didn't care for the croquettes, which had a horseradish sauce. We asked for an order of the potatoes au gratin instead and we enjoyed that much more.
The entree for her was a 10 oz fillet that was very tender and tasty. She enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as I enjoyed my 24 oz bone in aged ribeye. I enjoy food, but this steak prepared medium rare had me feeling very satisfied! So much flavor!
Service was a little slow, but only because of the holiday. Our waitress was very friendly and helped answer any questions we had about the menu. When we did have the issue with the croquettes, we were brought an exchange item very promptly.
I highly recommend this location. My only caveat, if you're reserving far in advance for a special occasion, go there in person (after reserving on open table) and pick out the seating you want to make sure it's right for your party and the occasion.
My husband and I went for my birthday. Started with cocktails, half dozen oysters. Shared a wedge salad, followed by the 44oz porterhouse for 2, creamed spinach and whipped potatoes. I also had a glass of the meritage with dinner. Everything was delicious and we left full! Took a piece of the 10layer chocolate cake to go. It’s pricey, but a wonderful treat for special occasions!
We have been to S&W at least three times this quarter and this was the first time I was really disappointed. I'm really hoping it was due to a crazy busy restaurant week because this was one of my favorite date night locations. I should have known better with restaurant week. I heard that the chefs wife was vegan and if I asked in advance I could get a special meal prepared. I made special note of it during our reservation. So when I was presented with two huge grilled portabella mushrooms with steamed spinach and sliced cherry tomatoes on top you can imagine my displeasure. No flavor at all and way too much mushrooms. The service was friendly but incredibly slow due to the restaurant week crowd. One bright star I guess, the lump crab appetizer was delicious. To be honest, even my husband's 12 oz ribeye had very little flavor. It was like there was just no love in the kitchen whatsoever. Even the host crew had an attitude and just really was not nice to even be around. There really is no excuse for that. Since it was the first bad experience, I'll go back someday but definitely not for a while. A $300.00 dinner should not leave you feeling this way.
The service was fantastic! The filets were excellent. The table of 6 seated next to us in the Wineroom Friday night were obnoxious and loud. I am stunned management did not have a word with them. Our meal was wrapping up and another group seated requested to move.
We had not been to s&w for a long time but heard it had been remodeled and was better than it had been. Very disappointing! The new decor is blah....not at all steakhouse-like. It had a much warmer, clubby, atmosphere pre remodel. Our waitress was rushed and inattentive and the food pretty average. We will not rush back!
Though we had indicated that it was for our 43rd Anniversary - and we have gone there every year for the last 10 years - we expected a complimentary glass of Champagne as before (or something) but offered nothing celebratory. We may now consider somewhere else next year.
We went on a date to celebrate our anniversary. Tomy was our server and he was great. He offered us the special and we ordered it. It was spectacular! The meat was served on a block of Himalayan salt. I ordered filet mignon. Both our dishes were cooked to perfection- medium rare. Tomy took great care of us, check on us periodically but not in an overbearing way, and even helped us celebrate our anniversary by asking us if there was a special occasion and gifted us dessert. He built great rapport with us, we enjoyed the customer service. We were the only ones there late on a Sunday night and we didn’t feel rushed to leave. The drinks were great! The Breakfast at Tiffany’s cocktail reminded me of a mimosa so if you like mimosas I would recommend this drink. We will definately be coming back and we would also recommend this place.
We have dined at this restaurant for several years now so I have a good knowledge of the level of food and service. This trip was very disappointing considering our previous times there. Usually worth the price, but not this trip. Seafood tower was below par, soups were all lukewarm my filet was a terrible cut of meat and had no flavor (my lobster tail was wonderful). Wine selection is great and of good value. Service was not as good as past years either. I will definitely return, but only due to my previous experiences, not this past one. Great location, great menu, great atmosphere and great wine list so hopefully this trip was just a one time blip.
Hadn’t been in a while so decided to go with my GF on New Year’s Day for dinner. Food was nothing short of amazing. We both were so full and happy. Everything was cooked to perfection. The server was right to the point (in a good way, no fakeness) and knew his stuff. We were both scheduling future dinners in our head for special occasions coming up so we could come back (my bday, her bday, Valentine’s Day). Was every bit as good as I hoped for and expected. Won’t go longer than a few months before coming back the next time, unlike the several years since last time I was there because I’m on the other side of town now. Great, great, great!
This place was abosolutely fantastic! The people were so welcoming. I didn't feel out of place going to such a fancy place! This will be my new date night special occasion spot! Jennifer, our server was so amazing and so sweet. What's better than amazing service and amazing food?
My salad was very large, big enough for 2 people! I ordered one crab cake for my entree and although it was delicious, it wasn’t “about the size of a baseball” like the waiter described. My husband ordered the signature filet and he ordered it medium, he wished he’d said medium rare, it was just a little dry. We shared the lobster Mac and cheese. This is very decadent and definitely more than enough to feed two people! The bread they serve is also delicious! Our meal with one cocktail, no appetizers, was $126.00, so be prepared for a large bill. The cheapest entree is the twin filets for $44 and that just gets you the filets, sides are ala carte.
We love this place. Food, drinks and service are always outstanding. This is where I bring my wife when I want to do something special for, and/or with, her. The experience starts with the hostesses, on through to the bartenders, managers and finally the server.
Our server, Cassandra, was impeccable. I will insist on having her take care of us our next time there. We will wait at the bar until a table in her section to becomes available to get her as our server.
