Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse - Columbus Ratings and Reviews
Our waitress was not attentive. We did not hear the specials or anything else that was a feature. My order came out wrong. And she blamed it on someone else. My husbands food was not cooked to temperature and once mine arrived it was raw in the middle. There are other restaurants at easton that run circles around this restaurant.
I actually spit out my food in the napkin and didn’t eat another bite. She didn’t even ask if the food was satisfactory once it was delivered. I have NEVER spit out my food in a napkin as an adult.
We decided that night that we would ever return.
Over the years we have visited S&W many times. But we get busy with life and such, it has been over a year since we had been. So as a belated Valentine's date my wife suggested we go back and I was in total agreement.
Now my wife was happy with her steak. I tried the whiskey marinated sirloin and we got sides of mushrooms and lobster mashed potatoes. Potatoes were great as usual. However the cut of my sirloin was totally substandard and not what I expect from this establishment. By this I mean it was equal parts fat and gristle to actual beef. I have definitely had better steak from Kroger that I cooked myself.
My other complaint is the mushrooms. For some reason S&W changed the way they are prepared and what we got was mostly stems cut lengthwise. They were ok, but nothing like what I had ordered in the past, as in what I would jokingly refer to as "crack".
I was not happy and of course for what it cost really expected a better meal. But being a date night I didn't want to ruin the mood. I did inform our server but I held back being brutally honest because I didn't want to ruin the night for my wife.
Skip the beef bacon, it tastes like......bacon. truffle Mac was great as were our steaks. I felt it was a little pricey for the addons. I would've gotten a drink but they we're $15 I would've gotten an after dinner coffee except it was $15. I know I'm gonna pay a lot but after a $65 steak don't break my balls with the little stuff. Would go again good food just be aware of the addons.
My husband and I were celebrating our 48th wedding anniversary which actually was on Valentine's Day. We did not want to risk the crowds on the day so we scheduled for Saturday. Everything was delightful, we went at 4PM and got to enjoy one of the small dining rooms by ourselves for almost the whole meal. Intimate setting by the fireplace. The waitress was very nice and the food was excellent. They even gave us a complimentary dessert for our special occasion.
It’s no wonder this place is empty most of the time. We hadn’t been in years but were on a date and everything else was booked. The service is what one would expect from a restaurant of this cost. Though I was surprised there’s no toiletries in the bathroom. But beyond that there’s nothing here that isn’t better for half the price walking distance away.
The salad dressings tasted watered down. The bacon on the salad was pretty great and thick cut but when all you can say about your salad is watered down lettuce with good bacon that’s not a great start.
The bread was nothing spectacular. Plain butter.
The steak had zero seasoning but was cooked well. It had a semi glaze which didn’t taste like much. Again tasted watered down.
The au gratin potatoes were a bland liquidy potato slur under a cheese crust.
We skipped desert.
Was it horrible. Not at all. It was simply okay. But the same meal maybe a bit better at longhorn would have been less than half the price. When you’re in a price range competing with the Top, Ocean Club, and Mitchell’s this just doesn’t cut it.
It was Valentine's Day so it was busy and packed as expected. I was surprised how many people were there like it was a normal event. Judging by the prices on the menu I figured only couples would be there. But I guess they have customers that have more money to spend than I do, because there were two families seated nearby with small children. Another table nearby had a loud group celebrating a birthday.
The food however was excellent. We ordered a Caeser salad that we split and enjoyed it with the bread brought to the table.
Next came our drinks. My date had a wine that she enjoyed and I had a Manhattan made with Maker's Mark. It was quite good!
We ordered two sides with our dinner, the potato croquettes and the creamy spinach. I enjoyed the spinach but my date and I didn't care for the croquettes, which had a horseradish sauce. We asked for an order of the potatoes au gratin instead and we enjoyed that much more.
The entree for her was a 10 oz fillet that was very tender and tasty. She enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as I enjoyed my 24 oz bone in aged ribeye. I enjoy food, but this steak prepared medium rare had me feeling very satisfied! So much flavor!
Service was a little slow, but only because of the holiday. Our waitress was very friendly and helped answer any questions we had about the menu. When we did have the issue with the croquettes, we were brought an exchange item very promptly.
I highly recommend this location. My only caveat, if you're reserving far in advance for a special occasion, go there in person (after reserving on open table) and pick out the seating you want to make sure it's right for your party and the occasion.
My husband and I went for my birthday. Started with cocktails, half dozen oysters. Shared a wedge salad, followed by the 44oz porterhouse for 2, creamed spinach and whipped potatoes. I also had a glass of the meritage with dinner. Everything was delicious and we left full! Took a piece of the 10layer chocolate cake to go. It’s pricey, but a wonderful treat for special occasions!
We have been to S&W at least three times this quarter and this was the first time I was really disappointed. I'm really hoping it was due to a crazy busy restaurant week because this was one of my favorite date night locations. I should have known better with restaurant week. I heard that the chefs wife was vegan and if I asked in advance I could get a special meal prepared. I made special note of it during our reservation. So when I was presented with two huge grilled portabella mushrooms with steamed spinach and sliced cherry tomatoes on top you can imagine my displeasure. No flavor at all and way too much mushrooms. The service was friendly but incredibly slow due to the restaurant week crowd. One bright star I guess, the lump crab appetizer was delicious. To be honest, even my husband's 12 oz ribeye had very little flavor. It was like there was just no love in the kitchen whatsoever. Even the host crew had an attitude and just really was not nice to even be around. There really is no excuse for that. Since it was the first bad experience, I'll go back someday but definitely not for a while. A $300.00 dinner should not leave you feeling this way.
The service was fantastic! The filets were excellent. The table of 6 seated next to us in the Wineroom Friday night were obnoxious and loud. I am stunned management did not have a word with them. Our meal was wrapping up and another group seated requested to move.
We had not been to s&w for a long time but heard it had been remodeled and was better than it had been. Very disappointing! The new decor is blah....not at all steakhouse-like. It had a much warmer, clubby, atmosphere pre remodel. Our waitress was rushed and inattentive and the food pretty average. We will not rush back!
Though we had indicated that it was for our 43rd Anniversary - and we have gone there every year for the last 10 years - we expected a complimentary glass of Champagne as before (or something) but offered nothing celebratory. We may now consider somewhere else next year.
We went on a date to celebrate our anniversary. Tomy was our server and he was great. He offered us the special and we ordered it. It was spectacular! The meat was served on a block of Himalayan salt. I ordered filet mignon. Both our dishes were cooked to perfection- medium rare. Tomy took great care of us, check on us periodically but not in an overbearing way, and even helped us celebrate our anniversary by asking us if there was a special occasion and gifted us dessert. He built great rapport with us, we enjoyed the customer service. We were the only ones there late on a Sunday night and we didn’t feel rushed to leave. The drinks were great! The Breakfast at Tiffany’s cocktail reminded me of a mimosa so if you like mimosas I would recommend this drink. We will definately be coming back and we would also recommend this place.
We have dined at this restaurant for several years now so I have a good knowledge of the level of food and service. This trip was very disappointing considering our previous times there. Usually worth the price, but not this trip. Seafood tower was below par, soups were all lukewarm my filet was a terrible cut of meat and had no flavor (my lobster tail was wonderful). Wine selection is great and of good value. Service was not as good as past years either. I will definitely return, but only due to my previous experiences, not this past one. Great location, great menu, great atmosphere and great wine list so hopefully this trip was just a one time blip.
