View Private Dining DetailsFabulous food and great staff as always. My favorite place in Chicago For a quality dinner!
Fantastic business lunch.
Great food, rapid and respectful service, easy reservation.
A MUST in Chicago !
The flavors of the steak are still happily dancing in my head! What they do to their fries are unbelievably tasty and quite literally the most delicious bread pudding I have ever tasted. I highly recommend this place. What a great surprise.
An amazing spot! Food was awesome and service was spectacular!
This is a nice place no doubt. The prices are high, service is good, appetizers were great, me Caesar salad was a 10. Steaks at $66 ought to be memorable-- these are great but not memorable. All in all Chicago has six or seven excellent steakhouse and S and W while great is just an iota behind them. More seafood choices would help. Still an enjoyable, tasty and pricey meal. I'll go back for sure
Mike was amazing! Very knowledgeable and attentive. Would def return!
Excellent food and service. Was a little cramped, but not a real issue. The service was spectacular. Would recommend and return (I've been a fan of S&W for a long time)
Great place and service. Kind and friendly people. But the wagyu was horrible. Teo people including me had wagyu... a dissaster. We sens two back to the kitchen. If youbgobthere ask for the high rotation meat... other wise is a risk. We had a great time, this was just a black point.
Great place. Great food! Not very busy for a week night
The food was great. The service was good. The dress attire worn by the patrons for a Saturday evening dinner was disappointing.
Loved my experienace! One of our guest in our party has a gluten allergy and our waiter was fantastic with letting her know her options. Waiter was again fantastic at making sure we were taking care of and enjoying the night. I had requested a window seat by the river since we were from Pittsburgh, and the hostess made sure To accommodate my request. I will be sure to go back when we come back to the Chicago!
Had a boned in Ribeye steak, asked for medium rare and nicely done! Though can’t finish but taste really good!
Probably the best filet mignon I’ve ever had. Most in our party would agree with that statement. Appetizers were also very good. Would highly recommend this restaurant!
Juan was exceptional waiter. He was prompt, conversational and made the night great.
It was my nephews birthday and I was pleased that my request for a table by the window was accommodated. We had a great meal and the service was outstanding!
It was a perfect place for my wedding reception!
Not our first time here, have always loved to make reservations for Easter/ Christmas Eve dinner as the first floor dining is phenomenal. This time however we were sent to the lower level where the patrons were so loud coupled with music and seated practically on top of other diners lining the windows. In their defense, Loyola game had just finished an hour before but to leave the serenity of church and to be thrust into a bar scene with your children was not what we made reservations for.
Food is usually great ( bill was 500 dollars as we stuck to our original plan of ordering off the dinner menu and not the grill one) Server was upset that I asked for the music to be turned down.
I was not impressed. Lots of other restaurants in the area to choose from.
Fantastic place for lunch or dinner
Our dining experience was one that heavily enjoyed. It was the first steakhouse I’ve been to in Chicago that had Au poivre sauce. Huge plus.
Great food expertly prepared, we had the prime rib and the filet mignon and both were savory and perfectly done. The quality of the food is matched by the beautiful view of the river. But the thing that sets this Smith and Wollenski apart is the amazing service! They make you feel confortable and at ease. It has become one of my favorite places in Chicago. Great place to relax and have a magnificent dinner. Looking forward to coming back soon!
In Chicago for spring break. Waiter was very attentive. He miss heard one of the orders so made it right quickly and followed with a free dessert. Knew his wines also.
Great restaurant sitting on the river. Service was excellent! Some of the best waiters I’ve ever had. While the food is a bit pricey (you’ll be spending a minimum of 30-50 dollars per person) it was THE BEST steak I’ve ever had. Must visit for steak lovers.
Vista del Río fue lo mejor por lo comida no volvería
not the S&W from other times. No bread was brought before our meal. Ribs were just ok, and so was the beef, but definetely not the S&W quality we expected. Had to send back the brussel sprouts, really tasted bad, as well as other vegetables we had. Service was really good and friendly.
This is hands down the most amazing food. I have eaten here twice and love everything they serve. The service is out of this world - We wanted for nothing. The steak melts in your mouth, the au gratin potatoes are to die for, and the bread is unbelievable. If you have the time and a little money go here! It is worth every penny!!
Great steak
Great food, service and view of the river. Have been back there several times.
My experience was very pleasurable everything was outstanding .everything I in vision when I made reservation. Thank you to all of my wait.staff for outstanding job ,look forward to my next visited to Chicago, thank you sincerely. Marilyn meriwether
Not a very warm welcome when entering. Coat lady was very nice. Servers smock was very dingy not white. For the money it was just okay not over the top.
Great all around experience! We loved the atmosphere, had a fabulous view by the window , our server David, was great! Attentive and knowledgeable! The food was delicious..couldn’t have asked for anything more !
Good food and service. Nice restaurant for any occasion.
Terrific food and service. The waiter’s kindness in treating us to dessert in honor of my British friend’s first Chicago visit made our evening perfect!
The service and food were exceptional! Recommend the beef bacon and dry aged bone in ribeye.... outstanding!
Always a real treat to enjoy dinner with friends/colleagues at S&W. The view is great and the food is always top notch. Try their caramel creme desert (believe it was called that). It won’t disappoint!
windows next to our table, right by the river, were filthy on the outside. I get it - hard to clean. but you could hardly see outside.
I get the price - it's what you expect. but the mashed potatoes were runny. Filets okay. sprouts good.
Although they were more than accommodating for our group of 20, the service on the backend was horrendous. We have dined here for many, many occasions; birthdays, business, anniversaries, etc. And have definitely referred this restaurant many times; however this time was nothing but insulting. Our bill in total was close to $3,000 and the waiter could not separate checks and made numerous mistakes and then after all had paid, told us we still owed $800, which by the way was an error on his part. After all the business we have given them over the years to be insulted like this at their error and have nothing said to us by management is horrific. Will have to rethink any future visits...very disappointed as the food is amazing!
Food was not worth the cost
The staff was very accomodating and they gave me the river side seat I was hoping for with much less of a wait than they first stated. The staff and service were great.
The best views though, when indoor seating, are down in the grill with a more basic menu. Feels like they should switch that. But the views in the grill are excellent. Right on the river. And if you ask, they will give you the upstairs menus.
Drinks were good.
The food though seemed standard. It was yummy, but I did have higher expectations.
Still, overall, I enjoyed it.
I took my family to S&W on St. Patty's day, in hopes of being seated next to the green river! When the restaurant called to confirm my reservation, they informed me that there was a private party downstairs and we would not have a view of the river. That was the main reason for picking this location for lunch, but oh well. The food was great! You must try the bacon appetizer! So yummy. Service was just okay. Average at best. The place was super crowed, over capacity if you ask me with all of the people celebrating the holiday at the bar, and outside on the patio. Due to all of the patrons, it was a very noisy lunch as well. I would go back, but not on a holiday. I was expecting this restaurant to not have any drunk patrons for the holiday, but I was sadly mistaken. Obviously the restaurant cannot control who walks in off the street to grab a drink at the bar. However, not once did anyone come by to apologize for the noise and the crowds. Not once. Heck, at one point someone dressed up in a Barney costume walked through the dinning room. Very disappointing. Food was worth giving it another shot though!
