Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Fantastic time! Our server, Christy, was top notch! She took such great care of us. We were celebrating a work promotion, and received a ginormous piece of chocolate cake as a gift.
They also left my partner a card congratulating her on her special day.
The food was phenomenal as well! We will definitely be back - and will recommend S&W to friends and family.
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this gem on yelp. We were pleasantly surprised at how tasty our steaks were. We usually go to Chicago Cut if we are looking for a good steak in that area. However, we may be hitting up Smith & Wollensky more regularly. Great spot!
On the evening of February 7th 2018, my wife and I were celebrating our 7th wedding anniversary at the Smith & Wollensky Steakhouse located in the Marni City Towers in Chicago Illinois. I brought my wife to this restaurant a few years ago for her Birthday, and thought that she would enjoy dining here again, as the last time was sooooo very memorable.
We arrived and were seated immediately at a table that afforded us a wonderful view of the Chicago River. Our waiter (who seemed a bit cheeky…but in a very good, humorous way) made us feel comfortable and ‘at home’ as he told us the specials for the day.
My wife started with the Lobster Bisque Soup and I had an Iceberg Wedge Salad (both of which were wonderful). I then ordered the Signature Bone-In Filet (which I devoured and thoroughly enjoyed) and the wife had the Veal Chop Milanese (which was sooooo huge, she needed a ‘doggie bag’ afterward).
From the starters to the Main Course, the service was second to none. Although there were several others being served during our time there, we felt like the only diners. That was how special the staff made us feel, without hovering or being somewhat clingy. Everything about the dining experience was professional, friendly, and courteous.
My husband and I dined at Smith & Wollensky for Valentine's Day. Upon entering we were warmly greeted by quite a few members of the staff. The hostess checked our coats and was very friendly. We were seated right away. Our waiter Juan V. welcomed us told us he'd give us a few minutes to look over the menu and he'll be back to take our order. Shortly after he left us a party of 5 was seated right next to us. Juan was their server also. My husband and I began talking and got wrapped up in conversation when we realized that the party of 5 was being served their drinks and placing their food order. Our order had yet to be taking. Our server had never retired, not even to take our drink order. Just as we were discussing leaving because of the service, Juan came over and apologized. I believe he saw the frustration on my face. Juan apologized and explained that the large party took up a little more of his time then expected. He took our drink order and came back fairly quickly to take our food order. I was prepared to leave a bad review here but Juan redeemed himself and the restaurant. I understand the service industry so I'm aware that theirs always a opportunity to turn a bad experience into a great one and Juan did just that, he more then compensated for the inconvenience he felt we had experienced and made the rest of the evening superbly enjoyable and we'll definitely dine at Smith & Wollensky again. Thank you Juan my husband and I had a Valentine to remember ❤️
Always the best steak here, and fantastic service. We had a late lunch on Valentine's day and it was like we booked out the entire restaurant! I had the steak fitted, and the meat tasted funny so we let the server know and they were incredibly nice, very apologetic, and comped us dessert. It's just not service and friendliness you get everywhere (we had olive oil that had gone bad at another place and the response was this is what people have been eating all day). They have a great bar which, when not busy, has fantastic views, but we also like the main room which has a more elegant touch. Summertime dining on the patio is also fantastic.
One of my favorite steak houses in the city. I think some of the typical local favorites are over rated and S&W maybe doesn’t get the credit it deserves because it’s a chain, but it’s easily in my top 3. Service is excellent. Staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and not at all pretentious. Great wine selection. Unlike some places, I’ve never had a dish or steak there that I didn’t think was worth the cost. While I’ve loved every bite of every dish and never had any issues, I’ve seen staff bend over backwards trying to accommodate difficult customers to ensure their satisfaction. Overall great food, great service, and great location right on the river. Perfect for special occasions or just getting together for a nice meal with friends.
Overall the experience left me not very anxious to return. The service was great the restaurant itself was nice but the food left a lot to be desired. The steak was prepared improperly , even after it was sent back and lacked flavor. Most of the side dishes we had were good however. For the price I expected more being a steakhouse. The only reason I would go back would be for dessert. The dessert was amazing, but I don’t think that’s really enough to get me back. All things considered it wasn’t a mad experience, it’s just not one I’d like to repeat.
Our server Kristi was amazing and we definitely will request her again when dining in the future. As always, Smith & Wollensky's delivered an amazing meal. I had the Filet Oscar and my boyfriend had the dry-aged NY Strip. He said the dry-aged steak is a must have here!
We were there during Restaurant week. They had a special that was salad, steak and dessert for $44. It was great. The mini IceBerg lettuce wedge was great and the the petite filet was perfect. I had the coconut cake and it was very tasty.
This was our 3rd time there and each time it has been great!
We always make an effort to go to Smith & Wollensky for its food and especially their coconut cake during restaurant week. I was disappointed when they changed their menu 2 years ago to remove the desert portion. However, I still recommend it to my friends to try it. Thank you...
