An old standard, which has its pros and cons. Very loud inside so can be difficult to converse if near a large table or when crowded. Food is good but also very standard in terms of preparation given the expense. They do a nice job recognizing special occasions. A good pick if looking for good food on a special occasion date while expectations are standard and price is no object.

We had a great time along with a great meal. The team treated us with respect and made us feel like they wanted to take of our needs while we were at the restaurant.

Attentive service. Original and delicious coconut cake to finish after Chateaubriaund for two.
Was seated next to a server station- I cannot believe these are not tucked away. It was loud and distracting with a server there frequently.

Absolutely fantastic steaks! Love this place, but we got seated downstairs like poor relations from out of town. I know it was a busy Saturday night, and it's great that all the servers cover each other, but the 'team serving' idea fell short when trying to get drink refills and some team members didn't get the message.

We made a reservation on OpenTable for a dinner table at this location. Upon arrival, it was only myself as the gf was sick from the afternoon. The host made me sit in the bar, even though I had a reservation and spent close to $200 on my meal, drinks, dessert alone. Yes, a chair in the bar where I was constantly being jostled by people walking by, stared at by people trying to watch TV from the host stand, and my space invaded by people waiting for tables wearing ripped blue jeans and T-shirts. The food was unremarkable... boring pea soup, slightly overcooked beef filet, tough and chewy mushrooms, but a delicious creme caramel. Service was good from the overworked server who tried hard. Management failed completely, especially when the supposed manager named Mike (male, 25, slicked back black hair, suit) came by for a table visit and asked how everything was. I told him, including how I have never been thrown into a bar seat ever before at a decent restaurant, and he could have cared less. His response was "oh", and he left. I will undoubtedly NEVER return to a Smith & Wollensky restaurant again anywhere in the country based upon this experience and the lack of caring by management (which means a lack of caring by ownership). Do yourself a favor and stay far far away from this place, unless you are in blue jeans and a T-shirt I guess. They could care less about their upper class customers who spend money there on a regular basis.

Preparation Oysters are one if the best in Chicago. Coconut cake was great. Steaks were decent, wine list is above average. Oldies for music. It is a good place but it is overpriced.

I ordered the lobster bisque, which was good but very rich. Also had a salad with seared scallops which was good. Probably would go back because it is close to the hotel where our conference takes place, but think it is overpriced.

I steak was way under done and the manager took it back and had it warmed up. You told me to cut it open and it was still under done. He said it was unacceptable so he took it back again. Lenny Cooke the Daylights out of it and it was not edible.

Overall we had a very good time but it wasn't perfect. We were seated in a lower windowless room which was very cold so we asked to be moved. It was in the 40's outside so having a cold breeze blowing down on you was unexpected. Also my likes prime rib but we found out after ordering a drink that that was not served there. That was a disappointment but the rib eye was very good.

I love S & W's but this time my steak was not good at all. I ordered a Strip but it was super fatty and more like a Ribeye or something. View was awesome as we ate downstairs at the bar. Overall a good place to go but I'm hoping that I just "happen" to get a bad steak.

Smith & Wollensky should be 5 stars. I am shocked. I have been to the NY and Boston restaurants and they were easily 5 stars. Our waiter was very nice.... When we saw him. He was way overbooked. My 24 ounce bone in rib eye ordered medium rare was about 16 ounces and medium well. Granted they offered to bring me a new steak, it should never have been delivered that way. I kept it. Ate it. But is was far from what was ordered. These are the reasons this one gets 3 stars. The rest of the meal was about 4/4.5 star worthy.

We dined with Smith & Wollensky for a Birthday Celebration. It was the first cold night in Chicago and the Air Conditioning was still on in the restaurant and dining was very uncomfortable. The Waiter introduced himself and took our order. Once the Wedge Salad arrived we noticed that other tables had Bread/Butter served and we had not. We asked the Busboy to and he apologized that we did not receive any and brought immediately. Our water glasses emptied and stayed empty throughout the entire meal. We had Filet Mignon, carrots and Wedge Salads which were all very good. But many details need to be improved at this location since we have had much better meals with Ruth's Chris and Sullivan's Steakhouse just down the street.

One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago and always my "go – to" when I want to please everyone in large crowd. I love the food so much that I have even ordered food for some of my private parties! Staff is wonderful too.

Very good place to eat, the setup is lovely, the only little thing is the price of the starters. I ordered some of the shrimp appetizer and we only received three and I believe I paid 23 bucks for three shrimp.

Other than that lovely place.
