We went for our Anniversary dinner Igor was our waiter he was very attentive and the food was great!
Took girlfriend for her birthday. We’re repeat offenders of this place. Fillets were great. Got a side of whipped potatoes-delicious. Split soup and a salad, along with a bottle of wine. A good time as usual.
If you like steaks, this is the place to go. Dry aged for 28 days, makes the fillets like butter.
Creamed spinach could have been warmer, service was hit or miss.
Great place for that special meal!
Everything was perfect for our anniversary dinner. Our server Lee was the best. Coconut cake is out of this world.
The waitstaff was very attentive. The waiter gave good options to choose from. The steaks were very good and cooked to the right temperature. The ahi tuna was seared perfectly. Crab cake and oysters were good appetizers.
We had a wonderful meal. Steaks were wonderful the Paloma Rosas were a bit hit with the wife. Gerald was our waiter and he was very knowledgeable of the entire menu and provided great service.
Kristi and Gerald were amazing, as always. We feel so lucky when they are the ones taking care of us. Food is delicious and I’m still thinking about that beef bacon and coconut cake!
Fabulous dining experience. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful.
This is a Chicago staple. It's great to be on the river and have amazing views. The drinks are always made well, strong and delicious. The food is top notch. Especially their steaks. I had the 24 oz cajun ribeye (bone in). Amazing. All cuts have been! Their apps are good too. I had the bacon in a cup and spicy meatballs. The service was excellent. I can't remember my servers name. Tall with glasses. Great work! Quick, responsive, provided good recommendations, knew his menu and his wines. Made the night that much better. Definitely will be back! One of my favorite spots in my city! Cheers!
Great time was had by our party of 9 for our birthday outings. The food and hospitality was great. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be back in the near future
While our server was outstanding, the food was incredibly disappointing, particularly for the price. The steak lacked flavor as did the asparagus and whipped potatoes. The truffle mac & cheese was the only thing that was tasty. Good wine list and our server made an excellent suggestion on a Cabernet (Paradigm). Server was fantastic - personable, funny, attentive and helpful.
We were seated in the lower level-it was cold and had no ambiance
The food was ok-for $16 a salad should be great-the spinach salad was not.
The scallop appetizer was chewy and cold when it arrived.
The steak was ok-a $55 steak should be great - it was not.
We won’t return.
Great dinner, good evening. Cocktails were good but not $16 good.
Great food. Large side portions. Personable staff. Memorable evening.
The views, food and service were impeccable! Highly recommend.
With all of the dining options available in Chicago, Smith & Wollensky is by far my favorite. The food is always fresh and well prepared. The service is top notch and the views of the river are beautiful. The desserts are amazing, especially the coconut cake!
Traditional Steak and Seafood restaurant. Food was very good, good service - as you'd expect. Ambience was average. Our table was at overlooking the river, which was special. Prices are pretty high, bill was almost $400 with tip for 2. 4 drinks, no wine, 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 entrees, 1 desert.
Valet guy was gone for 20 mins, a few of us were waiting to get our cars back.
We could not have had a better experience. From the moment we walked in the staff was genuinely interested, engaged and helpful. The food was truly outstanding. We were seated on the window overlooking the river. It was a magical and romantic evening. The waiter was superb and answered every question as if he really cared about us and how we would have the best possible experience during the meal. The steak was perfectly cooked. I was a bit skeptical about steak at home since I been on a recent trip to Argentina and was overwhelmed and spoiled by the quality and flavor of that meat. My faith in a great Chicago steak has been restored! Great place, great food, great service and great time. Thank you!!!
The waiter Igor was fantastic and the food was awesome !!!
New years eve
I could not have planned a better New Year's Eve outing! First time at Smith & Wollensky's was magnificent. I can't wait to go back this summer.

Food was great, service was great....we got stuck in a back room that has super noisy but it was New Years so that’s expected. We will be back.
We made reservations, and waited about 15 minutes for a table.
Our server was great! Very knowledgeable.
Our food was delicious!
Horrible service, decent food. We went as a group of 4 for New Year's Eve (had reservations) no one told us we would be sitting downstairs in the grill which is a completely different atmosphere. We sat down at the table and no one acknowledged us or gave us water for 10-15 minutes. We flagged someone down and several minutes later finally got water from a runner who admitted he didn't even know where the water was. Eventually the waitress came to the table, didn't apologize. She also took our plates for bread without ever asking if we wanted some. We had to ask for the specials... she didn't offer. Later we decided we wanted bread and had to hunt 2 different people down to get some. Got our food.. which was pretty good not amazing though. The hollandaise has a weird chemical taste so we didn't eat it. Our waitress did not ask how our meal even was nor thank us for coming at the end. We were splurging on a nice dinner out and expecting the same service and attention to detail as we get at Gibson's and Chicago Cut. Very, very disappointing! No crumb scrapers to be seen. And what's with the jeans?
I understand they were accommodating all the holiday reservations by utilizing downstairs but that was not the experience or atmosphere we were looking for our night out and were extremely disappointed. We should have at least been told ahead of time so we would have made the decision to go somewhere else.
Also note.. order your steak more done than you'd like. They can't seem to get the temperature right. I ordered med well instead of medium as I saw others very rare plates around me. Mine came out hardly medium, definitely not close to medium well. My friend ordered medium and her steak was VERY rare.
New Years Eve!
Fantastic from start to finish! A bit of a splurge, but from pre-dinner drinks at the bar to the yummy coconut cake dessert, it was worth it. And with three of us splitting the tomahawk steak, we got dinner and a show! Service as remarkable as the food.
The lamb was not cooked well the potatoes wereunder cooked
Excellent steaks and seafood with great views of the river and downtown.
New Years Eve Dinner! Expensive, but food and service was top notch. Jennifer and Mike took care of 10 of us. Patient with our kids and funny/polite/worked hard for us all.
Wonderful evening, great food, and awesome service!!
One of the best dining experiences of my life. The steak was pure and cooked perfectly. Not a lot of additional flavors added - they just let the meat speak for itself. Service was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be returning as much as possible.
Ambience is very traditional, could be modernized. Value of prices are not worth the quality. Good meats, though very expensive. Sides and all the rest were poor.
It was our 1st time eating. We got a great river view seat and the food was beyond fantastic! The service was also beyond attentive and there was always someone making sure that all of your needs were taken care of. We will definitely be back.
Absolutely incredible service and food!! Make sure to get the coconut cake!!
Perfect way to celebrate the birthday girl! Thanks S & W!
Loud but always great views and great steaks
We have been here several times and are never disappointed. We had a person with us who later told us he wasn't much of a steak eater but he really enjoyed the steak he had. It's a great place to take our of towners. It's right on the river so you can go to the loop or the gold coast. While some might find it a little pricey I think it is reasonable for the location and quality of the food.
S & W STEAKHOUSE IS A FANTASTIC RESTAURANT! MY WIFE AND I HAD DINNER THERE LAST WEEK FOR MY BIRTHDAY AND EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING! THE SERVICE WAS IMPECCABLE (GERALD WAS AN AWESOME SERVER)! THE RESTAURANT ITSELF IS COZY AND FUN! I WOULD RECOMMEND SMITH & WOLLENSKY TO ANYONE WHO ENJOYS A TASTY STEAK! I WILL BE RETURNING VERY SOON IN THE NEAR FUTURE!
Daughter’s 13th bday. Got the table by the window we requested and our waiter was fabulous. The hostess and bartender were also very sweet and helped make the occasion wonderful.
