Hmm - the host was prickly. He was not friendly nor very accommodating while seating us. I couldn’t really understand the waiter and what he was saying. There was no room to put a bag or anything else - they kept putting the leftover food bag on the banquette between us - two people already squeezed in! The portions are too large and the food overdressed. Expensive!
That said, the filet was great, as was the lobster tail. The ambiance is fun - lively and lots of people. I just wish a group of four had not been shoe horned into a tiny booth in a busy corridor and that the staff had been friendlier. They seemed almost annoyed with us?
Excellent all around
Everything was perfect
Exceptional in every way. Expensive but worth it.
Smith & Wollensky never disappoints. Great meal as always.
We went for the weekend wine dinner. The food was pretty good--I was disappointed that the wedge salad was just iceberg and blue cheese dressing--no bacon, nothing else. But the steak was good and dessert tasted fine. The service was pretty bad, no one even took our order for 20 minutes, we never got any bread, we had to ask for water a few times. Over all, I wouldn't recommend
We weren’t seated until 35 minutes after our reservation. It then took over 25 minutes before our order was taken. I asked for bread (as it was now 9:30 and we had no food) and our server rudely said it was coming as he was walking away - it never came. He never asked if we wanted more wine or anything else. He was frequently leaning against a wall doing nothing, yet he paid little attention to his tables. The food was excellent but the service was really lacking. For the price you pay here I would expect a lot more.
The food was good but not the service. We sat outdoor and waited over 40 minutes to get any food, not even the bread arrived until much later. The waiter was busy with other tables or missing. Outdoor was too cold, no thermal lamps. Inside was very crowded, bathrooms were not pristine
The prime rib was tender, the jus was flavorful, and the whipped potatoes were decadent. Wish the horseradish was a bit more powerful, the seating area was more quiet, and the waiters were easier to flag down. Would come back to try Wollensky's grill next door for their smaller English cut.
Always delicious, always amazing! and wonderful service.
Good meal, good service. Just make sure not to get sat next to the kitchen. The area gets really busy and there is punch of tables set up around you. The service staff is super efficient, which on one hand is great, on the other hand they almost appear as they are trying to get you out of the restaurant fast so they can set the next incoming group. Food, as always, is good. While the place is a statehouse the my serve excellent fish as well. We had Dover Sole and Branzino and they were both made just perfect.
Lump crab cocktail very large and very tasty. My bone in rib-eye was wonderfully tender and tasty. Great cream spinach and hash browns. Coconut cake was to die for. We’ll be back for sure
We celebrated my daughters 18th birthday the experience was beyond awesome! We all had a great time!
We visited from Atlanta.
Without a doubt the worse service I have ever experienced at this restaurant. I love S&W but this so far was beyond acceptable service.
Poorly advertised. Waited over an hour for the worst table in the restaurant. If they try to take you upstairs, say no. Horrible horrible place. Food was not good enough for the money. Would never go here again.
Overbooked, understaffed during our visit. Steaks way over cooked, but corrected when refired. Wait staff did their best to overcome management and kitchen deficiencies.
We had to wait more than 30 minutes to be seated, including the fact that people coming after us were seated ahead of us , yet we were two and the others nwere also parties of 2. So they were not paying attention toi us. We had to go and claim and they then immeditaley gave us a ntable and propose to compenstae to give us a glass of wine.....
The waiter was not attentive , and I would say even rude.
It took more than 1 hour to get the main course
No no good at all including the fact that the food is good but that is it.
Ya no es una carne blanda y con sabor inolvidable. Además es muy caro.
Host staff checked us in, then told us to wait at the bar as our table wasn’t ready. After 30 mins in the bar I inquired with the host and was given a rude response and told to keep waiting. After an hour, I checked again and the host had lost our reservation. We were seated shortly after this, with no apologies from the host who lost our reservation. We probably should have just bailed at this point but decided to give the food a try. The saving grace was our waiter. Fantastic attitude and service from him. The food was good as well. I never understood why a restaurant even has a host when they’re rude and pretentious. Overall, we glad we stuck out the hour wait and poor hosting as the food was great and the wait staff were excellent. A few too many tables cramped into this tight of a space though and very noisy environment for a business dinner.
Tony was awesome!! Food was great.
A long time establishment. Wonderful ambiance and ecor.
Food was ok- bacon is way too salty compared to other steak houses. Prime rib , salads, sides dishes were very good.
Place got really busy after 6pm so best to stop earlier
Waiter was excellent. Food was also amazing. Would come back indoor or outdoor.
We didn't care so much for the side dish potatoes. The potatoes were grated didn't care for the texture.
Amazing!! Go here for any special occasion!
I used to love this restaurant. I don't know what happened. We waited for the menu for 15 minutes, the restaurant load was 30%. Snacks waited 40 minutes, and lobster 1.40. The steak was cooked for 50 minutes from the moment of ordering!
And the final! The waiter, after a terrible service, opened the receipt and began to count the tips! I'm in shock!!! The worst restaurant in the city
This place is fantastic! The staff were so friendly and attentive. I will definitely be coming back.
Overall 5 stars. The food and service. Julie and Jason were great on the phone prior to our arrival. Our waiter was Juan Estrella, seasoned/excellent; knowledgeable and well mannered. My husband had the filet mignon and I had the prime rib, made to perfection. For appetizer I ordered SW split pea soup, absolutely delicious and my husband the SW salad 🥗, great both choices. For dessert their famous coconut cake, (yummy), and the apple crisp with cranberries. Must mention I decided to go old school with a Cosmopolitan Martini 🍸, it was made to perfect, made with quality liquor. I recommend SW hands down. ♥️♥️♥️
S&W never disappoints. The steak is always well cooked at the right temperature.
At some point old institutions, without the right leadership, can fall into a pattern that leads to obsolescence and mediocrity. A global pandemic causing shortages in supplies, cost increases and a lack of labor will amplify sclerotic operations.
1. I chose steakhouses for the quality of the meat, the service, and the ambiance. I made our reservation early in the day when there were tons of tables available and were seated on their crappy soulless second floor which also serves as an event space. Almost 150 a head to sit at what looks like a Marriott cafeteria.
2. Steaks were great and cooked to the right temperature. Unfortunately, our plates were warmer than the porterhouses. Second floor and understaffed issue I’m sure. You don’t have staff? Don’t open your crappy second floor. Asparagus as they serve it is cooked well but it is literally a stalk of ash without an ounce of anything.. no salt, no olive oil… blah. Potatoes gratin and Mac and cheese were tasty but also on the colder side.
3. The bar was made for old white men and their proclivities. Asked for a good rum and all they could offer was Bacardi and Captain Morgan. Captain Morgan I must be on a low-rent cruise ship. This has not happened to me at high end places in many many years. A bit too Eurocentric for such a diverse city and clientele.
Amazing meal and service. Fantastic place for a special occasion or date night. Tony was a great server!
Always excellent Glad to see they're open for lunch again..
Better steakhouses in Manhattan (Wolfgang’s, Mastros); only go here out of convenience.
Dinner for 3 was fun and not rushed. Had to request not to be seated at a table outdoors by the main entrance when there were other open tables. Finally sat on 49th St side. Drinks were good and never had to wait long for those. The bread basket is nice as not everyone does it anymore. There was a misunderstanding about the wedge salad but was rectified quickly. And the steaks and sides and tuna were delicious. Would definitely recommend for al fresco dining.
Todo delicioso… como siempre. B
We made last minute plans with a cousin of mine to meet in NYC and decided to go to Smith & Wollensky. I've never dined here before, but we are definitely steak eaters and couldn't wait to try it. Our appetizers were very tasty, the wedge salad and the crab meat cocktail. Then we had the porterhouse steak and filet-mignon on the bone which were cooked to perfection and delicious. Our dessert consisted of NY style cheesecake which definitely hit the spot. All in all, our dining experience was really great and I would definitely be coming back to this restaurant again.
The food was amazing. My only complaint is that the tables were really close together and they sat everyone on top of each other even though there was plenty of room to spread out, especially when we first were sat.
My first time at this steak house. Prices are what you would expect for the type of restaurant and being in NYC, but it was worth every bite. Our service was excellent, our waiter was friendly, offered advice and took good care of us. We had the veal chop and filet with lobster tail add on. Both were exceptional. Look forward to going back.
Amazing steak. I got the hanger with potatoes and cream spinach… to die for. Cooked perfect. Cheese cake for dessert… just wow. Homemade for sure. Cant wait to go back
Super super loud. Service slow …30 minutes after seating for our drink order and 50 minutes for food to arrive after we ordered. The main course arrived cold and had to be sent back which was another 15 minutes. Not their performance.
