Smith & Wollensky - New York
Although Smith & Wollensky has earned its reputation as the quintessential steakhouse, the menu is varied and offers many options beyond the signature exemplary steaks. Guests can also select from a variety of market-fresh seafood, poultry, and lamb. Delicious side dishes complete the meal, such as creamed spinach, hashed browns, and seasonal vegetables. The irresistible dessert selection ends the meal on a memorable note with a variety of decadent, housemade cakes, sorbets, and ice creams.

Food was delicious, but service was VERY slow, and I think it was a kitchen issue, not the server.
The staff at the restaurant were fantastic. From the host to the bartender to the waiters - everyone was attentive and provided excellent service. The food was delicious. Will definitely come back again!
Nice ambient and location. Very good food and service
No advice from the waiter on portion sizes - resulted in a lot of wasted food!
This was my second visit to Smith & Wollensky. I absolutely love this restaurant. From the moment I enter until the moment I leave, the service is exceptional. My girlfriend and I are always treated very well and the food is fantastic. I recommend the seafood bouquet and the 32oz Colorado.
Fabulous food, atmosphere and service! A must whenever we are in New York!
Appetizer was ok, but main course was great. Huge portions. I think hype was a little over. Generally I think better to not have too high expectations after outstanding reviews.
Ate and the Bar and Patrick and James we’re outstanding
Best steak in NYC
Great service and even better food! They even gave us champagne because we were celebrating our anniversary!
Smith and Wollensky is a classic NYC steakhouse with wonderful food and top notch service. It's not cheap but what NYC steakhouse is?
Over rated, over priced steak
Expected much much more
Its not that the steak isnt good, but for this price, it didnt blow my mind
First time back in years. Over rated and over priced. Steak was served cold. Service slow.
Wonderful restaurant. Service, food, ambiance as good as I have experienced. To a Brit it’s pricey but, that aside, i would recommend.
Very nice, but hellishly overpriced. A house bottle of red at $79? But it’s the sort of thing you do once in a while. The waiters were lovely.
To expensive so much noise that we have problems talking
As always mostly excellent but with some flaws - had to ask for bread which was stale, Caesar salad with no anchovies, being called young lady in a patronizing way. I have been coming here for nearly 20 years - good but slipping.
muy mal el servicio. el mozo nos queria despachar lo antes posible. la comida superlativa. lastima el servicio. no es la primera vez que me pasa.
Perfect service. Wonderful food. Authentic Steakhouse.
Love this place. Staff is friendly and food always great!
Food was average. Service was good.
There are so many steakhouses in New York that are much better than this one. The service was fine, but the food was shoddily plated and lacking in flavor. Very expensive, as well, for what it is. You'd do better at Keen's or even Wolfgang's.
By the way, once again, they were out of Prime Rib at 8:00 PM on a Saturday evening. Odd.
Delicious food and helpful staff - the sommelier was charming and recommended an excellent bottle while sticking to our price range. The food was exactly as you would expect from a steakhouse - great meat! They made a fuss of my Grandma, whose birthday it was. Nice place for a special occasion, and for the location and quality of food, priced as expected.
Unfortunately a bad experience. Have been several times and recommended S&W for many others. Was with family for a celebration and everything went wrong with the service. For the price of the food, the service does not stand up to. Slow, zero attention, waiter with no willingness to help or assist. NOT COMING BACK.
The rib eye was perfect
Food was great, but service was lacking. For a 5 star restaurant, I was surprised at their lack of proper etiquette. They left empty glasses on the table, extra place setting, etc.
Also we felt very rushed, arrived at 6pm with a party of 5, and seemed like they were trying to move us along at high speed.
For this type of upscale restaurant, I expect not to be rushed along. When I told the waiter I’d like to wait to order our entree until the appetizer arrived, he literally came back twice asking for our order then loitered right next to our table while staring at us, until we gave up and just ordered our entrees.
The steaks were amazing though! Such a shame the service wasn’t on par with the quality of the food.
This is the Best of the Best steak houses bar none. You are welcomed and treated friendly, The Staff makes you feel like friends, And they care, they have personality, warmth and a touch of humor. no better spent dollar for a Special Occasion or just and wonderful meal than Smith & Wollensky's.
Great Steaks and Awesome Bday Dinner for my children
Great steak and very friendly staff. Good experience overall
The best steakhouse I’ve ever been to and loved every minute, from the cocktails at the bar to the main dinner.
I have invited my business partners from South Korea for dinner and I had such a great experience at Smith& Wollensky. We tried dry aged fillet mignon (season special menu) and porter house for two with some appetizers and side menus. The food was excellent and the service was outstanding. My business partners had such a fine dining experience and thanked me for choosing this place.
Upon being seated and ordering we were served our drinks then waited 1 and 1/2 hours before we were served. Waiter brought wrong vegetable and the lobster&butter were absolutely cold.
Terrible service quality. They asked me and my guests to leave the table because other people were waiting to get in after one hour dinner. I’ve never had to deal with such negative experience on a high-end restaurant (spent more than $200 per guest). Will never come back again!
I eat at Smith & Wollensky every time I'm in New York. In fact, I eat at the restaurant in every city I visit that has one. The food is consistently good, and the service is usually fantastic. My only issue this trip was that I didn't get seated until over 30 minutes after my reservation time. I ended up going by myself due to my friend having a last-minute rescheduled appointment. I understand seating one person isn't necessarily a priority, but four couples that arrived after me got seated before I did. There were no spots at the bar so I had to stand the entire wait-time, and I did see open two-seater tables while I was waiting that I wasn't seated at for some reason. To say the least, it was frustrating. When I finally got seated, the food and service was excellent as always.
Delicious steaks and terrific service. Wonderful way to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday.
We had a superb meal. The service was outstanding and the steak was perfect. It was quite a treat.
Service was exceptional. Servers were attentive and patient from beginning to end. I ordered the filet mignon which was delicious and prepared just as I would like. My boyfriend ordered the Cajun Rib Steak as recommended by our server. I don’t like spicy, and the server did say if we didn’t mind a little spice, this was a good steak. The Cajun Rib steak was so delicious that i had to steal a few bites myself. For sides, we went simple, whipped potatoes and jumbo asparagus, both good compliments to our steaks. We hesitated on dessert but glad we ordered the Chocolate Ganache Cake on top of some kind of cognac sweet sauce was prepared very nicely as it tasted. Overall, great experience and great food!
Super recommend! Especially the side dishes and sirloin steak, medium rare is perfect
