Smith & Wollensky - New York
Although Smith & Wollensky has earned its reputation as the quintessential steakhouse, the menu is varied and offers many options beyond the signature exemplary steaks. Guests can also select from a variety of market-fresh seafood, poultry, and lamb. Delicious side dishes complete the meal, such as creamed spinach, hashed browns, and seasonal vegetables. The irresistible dessert selection ends the meal on a memorable note with a variety of decadent, housemade cakes, sorbets, and ice creams.

Top for the top peoples only!
I was there for a great dinner and to get engaged. I called in advance and asked for help in setting up the right moment. I got a great table and the waiter, Kareem and the reception staff were more than great, they were spectacular. Kareem , was made aware in advance and he was more nervous than I was 😀. I applaud all the staff at Smith & Wollensky for helping me make this a very special moment. Kareem, thank you.

Overall the food is good, services are good, only flaw is they forgot my wife’s cappuccino. Overall great experiences.
Great service, great food
I have been to a number of the good NYC steakhouses and this rates right up there. Very good service that is friendly yet provides the white glove treatment at the same time.
We started with the mozzarella and tomato appetizer which was fantastic. For dinner, it was the porterhouse for 2, au gratin potatoes and sauteed spinach, The steak was perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside and pink on the inside. Really no complaints about the meal.
Was not worth the cost. Wanted to go for a long time and was disappointed. Crab cakes were excellent. Rib eye was good. Mushrooms and asparagus were not good at all. Waiter could have cared less if we happy. Never go back.
Overpriced for poorly cooked food served with an attitude problem. The service at S&W from entering the door is short, sharp and unfriendly. The staff have an attitude, which never involves smiling or seeking to serve the customer, merely to direct them. They might get away with this if the food was something special, but it's not. The steak was distinctly average, especially based on the price, and the mushroom side dish was soggy & overcooked. Frankly no one seems to care, and not should you. Stay away from this outdated dinosaur from a different age.
Service was great. Our Waiter Danny was excellent.Made great suggestions on food, which was spot on.Pricey, but well worth it for special occasions. We'll be back.
Went there for lunch on January 15. I had the Colorado Rib Steak, hash browns and sauteed spinach. Food was outstanding. The steak was cooked perfectly. The service was great. The greeters and maitre d' were very nice and my waiter was a sweetheart! The food and service were what I would expect from a high end steak house like this.
Locale davvero elegante, con personale cortese. Cibo davvero ottimo. Straconsigliato per una bellissima serata.
Bad server and with that bad experience.
Regular Food for a lunch of $50 plus per person.
Old School restaurant, but not what I was expected. After all this I wrote to the manager and he was very professional and thank me to share with him my experience. I will give them another chance.
S&W's signature pea soup still terrific. The sides were great. New dessert options are a hit. But for the first time in 30+ years the steak, specifically the porterhouse for 2, was disappointing. It wasn't awful, just a couple of notches below the S&W high standard. The restaurant is still not fully back on its feet following a recent fire and maybe that's a factor. I hope that's the case
My family and I had a wonderful dinner, celebrating family and friends. A fantastic meal and great service. There is a reason why this remains one of my favorite steakhouses when I come into New York City.
Fabulous service and great food
Came here with my friend and my sister for her last dinner in America before leaving the country. Our waiter treated us like dirt- slamming waters on the table, rudely saying “Good enough” when my friend showed his ID to order wine, and bringing out an already poured glass of wine (didn’t show the bottle or let him taste so who knows if he actually poured the right thing). Originally I thought he was having a bad day but I guess he didn’t want to serve people who look super young because he would turn around to the other tables with older families and act like a completely different person (all smiles, high energy, POLITE). Sad that I was looking forward to treating my sister to a nice last dinner and the waiter left it on a sour note.
it's was my second time going there Food was amazing just like i remember 15 years ago. i love the place and food great for everything and more!!!!. Thanks for serving me a great meal.
Disappointed with service and food quality. Seems to have gone down hill. Grand Seafood Bouquet Shrimp were tasteless, lobster seemed frozen and crab meat wasn’t fresh. All Steaks were ordered medium rare and arrived extremely rare. Go elsewhere for value.
Been here on many occasions and have never really been disappointed. Food is prepared the way we wanted, although the porterhouse for two is really good enough for at least three possibly four. Appetizers were tasty, fig and prosciutto delicious starter could have been another layer, sides delicious. Terrific martinis and great wine list, love the fact they still have half bottles. Desserts especially the carrot cake are definitely meant to be shared. Waiter was prompt, not pushy. All in all an old fashioned high end steak house. Negatives do not lower my rating of this place but they do want you in and out but that must be the New York speed eating thing. I understand lunchtime but what’s the rush at dinner. The place was only half filled, pricing in the city will definitely be the end of many great establishments if they continue to price themselves at the extreme high end. Alas, we were aware and does not detract from the quality I’ve enjoyed over the years.
Had drinks before dinner at the bar. Patty Ford was our bartender and an absolute delight. Dinner was outstanding as always!
As usual, perfection
The restaurant was as good as the first time here.
Brought my wife this time - her birthday
Ordered the filet mignon, I was really unimpressed, very normal steak and ridiculously overpriced. The service was poor as well.
Siempre bueno. Un clásico en carnes.
One of the best Colorado ribeye and filet we’ve had. Service was on spot as well!
We have dined here many times, and this was our first luke-warm experience. The fish was fantastic, but the ribeye was served on a cold plate and cold, then was sent back and was overcooked. The sides were very good, though they did not all come out at once, which was frustrating. This is a great restaurant, however, and we will definitely return - it was an off night, and that can happen. Of note, the waiter and the manager both felt bad for what happened and offered dessert and a drink.
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to in Manhattan. Service is amazing. So many Wine and Drink choices. The food is incredible and cooked to prefection. Thank you for an incredible dinner , I cannot wait to go back.
We were greeted by reception staff and asked about our seating preference. Booth or table and were promptly seated. Our waiter was amazing. Appetizers food and drinks were simply amazing. Strawberry short cake is the best.
Food was amazing, staff was so in tuned and on point. Very relaxing and quiet evening.
Good food but took time to arrive
Fabulous food and the service is even better. I also ate at Delmonico’s on this trip and I have to say Smith and Wollensky is by far the better of the two ....there filet mignon is the best I have ever eaten.
Went for a New Years Day dinner with a $200 Smith & Wollensky gift card from my mother-in-law. We were seated by a hostess with unwarranted attitude. Service was good until the end of the meal (waited for at least 15 minutes for check). Food was very good. The issue came at the end when they told us our Smith & Wollensky gift card was not good at their restaurant. They said their restaurant was under the brand Quality Meat and our gift card was for Smith and Wollensky. However, our reservation says the restaurant is called Smith & Wollensky, as did the sign on the front, the menus and our check/bill and credit card charge all say Smith & Wollensky. Needless to say, we will never dine their again. To be honest, it really does not even come close to the amazing restaurants New York has to offer. We went solely because of the gift card, which apparently is a sham.
The food is okay. And they might require you to check in your belongings. However, they might put your stuff on the ground, which is really not okay. Even more, they ask for tips. But at last I did not pay the tips for check out my stuff.
New Year’s Eve family dinner
This was a fantastic meal, exceptional service and a very good atmosphere. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a steak around east midtown. The wheat beer was very tasty and I must also recommend the tomatoes and burrata so flavourful I would return for this dish alone. The same could be said for the rest of our meal especially the coconut cake. So fresh and memorable. I hope everyone has this experience when visiting.
If we could give 10+ stars, we would. Smith & Wollensky not only serves outstanding food and drink, they create an experience. Our evening was magical, a night we'll always cherish as we celebrated a special birthday. When you go to Smith & Wollensky, take the time to talk with the team ... they're great people and will create a memorable evening.
Came the day after our wedding day in 2017. Enjoyed our first anniversary dinner here. We'll be making it a tradition. Service was top notch. Thanks Tony and the rest of the team.
We had a nine hour flight from Germany, but the dinner at the restaurant was worth every mile. Our waiter was outstanding and the meat excellent. On our next trip to New York, we will definitely come back to this amazing place.
Everyone was very friendly and extremely professional. Tables were set very nicely. Service was prompt and very well done. Good selection of wines. Dinner was perfect, the filet was absolutely perfect and fish was fabulous. We can’t wait to visit again! Highly recommend for the perfect dinner!
