The landmark Smith & Wollensky in New York City is located on the corner of Third Avenue and 49th Street, serving outstanding steakhouse fare that features USDA Prime steaks, dry aged and butchered on-premise. Opened in 1977, the original Smith & Wollensky has set the standard by which all other steakhouses are judged. The New York Times agrees, calling the restaurant “a steakhouse to end all arguments” and Gourmet said this is the “quintessential New York steakhouse.”

Although Smith & Wollensky has earned its reputation as the quintessential steakhouse, the menu is varied and offers many options beyond the signature exemplary steaks. Guests can also select from a variety of market-fresh seafood, poultry, and lamb. Delicious side dishes complete the meal, such as creamed spinach, hashed browns, and seasonal vegetables. The irresistible dessert selection ends the meal on a memorable note with a variety of decadent, housemade cakes, sorbets, and ice creams.

Great service and great food. Steak was melt in your mouth, barely needed a knife. Loaded potatoe au gratin was the best thing I've ever hand.

The food was good and portions huge, if you’re a big steak person this will not disappoint! I ordered a drink I didn’t get and I ordered fries and got a baked potato! Other than that great steak place! Go!!

The food was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The table next to us was a little too loud with the foul language and bad jokes but we made the best of it. Definitely a place to dine at at lease once.

The best part of the meal was the amuse bouche (pigs in blankets). The signature prime rib was tough, after complaining the replacement prime rib had more fat than meat. The filet mignon was grizzly and fatty. Overall the food was extremely disappointing. However, the service was good and it’s a shame because the restaurant used to be really good.

It feels like a factory, the creamed spinach was bland and at $13 was overpriced. The steak was mediocre at best.
It would be fine for a business dinner.

The main restaurant is quieter than the grill. Cosy ambiance.
Service good and friendly.
The meat is exceptional, specially the filet mignon on the bone ( house speciality).

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I love S&W Pea soup! I was so excited coming into town to go and have a bowl on a cold night after traveling all day. Disappointing. The service vibe was way off and the pea soup was room temperature and just not what I am normally so excited to eat.

My girlfriend and I dined at Smith and Wollensky to celebrate Valentine's Day this year. Everything was fantastic from the beginning of the meal to the end. The wait staff was kind and attentive, walking us through the menu as it was our first time dining there. All of the food was prepared to perfection, and the ambience was lively yet quiet enough to carry on a private conversation with ease. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a fantastic meal in the city.

STEAK YUM. Baked potatoes like shoes. Delicious salads and sides. Coconut cake for dessert. You can't go wrong.

I had the best lemon drop martini ever! The food was great . The service was outstanding. We even got their famous coconut cake and the staff came out with a lit candle for my husband birthday. Great place , it’s no wonder they are one of the best steakhouse restaurants in NYC.
By the way I can’t believe people wrote bad reviews I mean you are eating at a classic NY steakhouse eating perfectly cooked high quality meat and you complain that your sauce on the side was not as you expected , or the portions were too big...I laughed so hard! Some people are hard to please.
