Smith & Wollensky - New York
Although Smith & Wollensky has earned its reputation as the quintessential steakhouse, the menu is varied and offers many options beyond the signature exemplary steaks. Guests can also select from a variety of market-fresh seafood, poultry, and lamb. Delicious side dishes complete the meal, such as creamed spinach, hashed browns, and seasonal vegetables. The irresistible dessert selection ends the meal on a memorable note with a variety of decadent, housemade cakes, sorbets, and ice creams.

Service was slow. Waiter was good but server was awful.
Food was cold. Steak was fatty and cold. So disappointing!!!
One meal was raw when served. And food was really bland. There was limited selection to food everything was sold out.
Best restaurant I have been to, no exaggeration; will be back
Not the quickest re service but it was Busy, can't fault the staff tho. The 32oz ribeye was delicious and cooked to perfection. New York prices which were fair but a bottle of red wine took up half the bill. If you like beef it's a must go, a well established place with a great authentic New York feel.
Not what it used to be, average steak and poor service and high prices
From the moment we walked through the door, we were handled with care. The hosts were attentive, and made sure my request was honored. Our waitstaff was excellent! They too were attentive, knowledgeable, and funny. The food was delicious, and every course was solid. Staff sanged happy birthday to me. It was sweet. We sat at Table 55, and will return.
The food was delicious but the service seemed a bit rude or pretentious. Overall, a great experience
I love going here but especially during restaurant week where I can have my HUGE dirty martini, surf & turf along with my baked potato...that's is hands down my ultimate favorite meal and having it at Smith & Wollensky puts the icing on the cake!
This is usually our most favorite restaurant. Unfortunately they were short-staffed, and it made all the difference in our experience. Although the food was delicious as always, we waited forever for it, had to insist on service, and sat a long time with dirty plates and a tablecloth that was never cleaned. Since we were celebrating two birthdays, I complained to management about the poor service that marred the evening. To the restaurant's credit, we were comped dessert, specialty coffees, and after dinner drinks. I never had a bad experience here before and certainly will continue to recommend the restaurant as the best Manhattan steakhouse. The lobsters are great as well.
Food and atmosphere at this New York classic are terrific. Service can be spotty, with the reception staff overburdened (and showing it) and some of the waiters being lackluster. This can be an A+ experience and it can be less so depending on the service at any particular occasion.
This is my favorite restaurant. My girlfriend and I came here for the first time about a year ago on a whim. Now, this has become our go-to restaurant. To start, we always get the Smith’s Bouquet for two - The seafood is incredibly fresh and delicious. For entrées, my girlfriend usually gets the tuna au poivre or scallops, when it’s available - she adores them both. I always get the Colorado Rib Steak with a side of creamed spinach. I’ve been to many steakhouses but nothing comes close to this steak. To top it all off, we share a coconut cake for desert. Mind you, we’re already stuffed like turkeys by the time we get to desert but it’s just too good not to order!
If you have the choice, sit downstairs. I sat upstairs once but I noticed the service lacked a bit. I believe it was because the second floor primarily serves large groups and the one time I sat up there, it was just myself and a friend.
All in all, this place is fantastic. I highly recommend.
Omg this place was amazing! From the ambience, the food delicious and the service was superb. Like I don’t know why I haven’t been there before. Completely in love with it.
Very good experience I don’t know how to describe the experience that we have it was one of the best experience I have, the food was exceptional the service super everything was great I will return in the future because it was the best steak house we ever went
I want to say thank for such good time a have with my friends
Came here for restaurant week and to also celebrate my friends birthday and mine. Appetizers we ordered were ceasar salad and calamari. Entrees were the sirloin steak, dry aged sirloin steak, surf and turf. Also ordered hash browns to share. Everything was delicious! For dessert we all ordered the coconut layer cake with ice cream. Our servers were very attentive and checked on us as well as a member of the staff where the hostess were came over to check and make sure everything was good at our table. Will always be back for restaurant week and even when it's not.
Food was great! Our waiter was awesome! Loved our dinner experience!
My wife and I love this place.
Prime rib was predictably good. But maybe because of restaurant week, or the many large parties, but service was horrendous. Could not get anything we wanted or asked for for the life of us. Also, maybe it’s because it was my first time sitting in the very back of the upstairs space, but the noise level and echo acoustics made it impossible to hear each other.
The best Restaurant Week spot ; great food and good value.
Accommodating host staff. Sommelier tried to pass off a wine that was two years younger in vintage. California 2017 vs 2015, big difference in years and age.
It's my Birthday spot, the food is great...
Our party had an overall nice time. It was a little difficult for my 81 year old father to get in/out of the booth we were seated in. The food was very good but it always is when we eat there. We have never been disappointed with it.
Filet mignon prepared perfectly. Wine pairings were good and well priced.
I went to S&M for RW as I like to try out different steak houses and figure out which places I like and will return to in the future. Unfortunately, I did not feel like our waiters cared enough, the service was very sub-par. I am not sure if this was because it was RW and they figured that most of the patrons arent regulars or this is just the normal service.
Food: The appetizers were not great, I had a Caesar Salad that had virtually no Caesar dressing and brown lettuce, my gf has the split pea soup, which she said was not that good. The filet was actually very good, but not cooked to the way I ordered it (probably because the waiter gave our food to the table next to us and did not apologize for the mistake). For dessert, we had the pecan pie (terrible) and the coconut cake (good).
Overall: This place clearly has patrons that are regulars, like most fancy steak houses. However, as a native NYer who has been to tons of steak houses in NYC, there are better places to go, where the food is better and the service is more welcoming and because of that, I would not recommend going to S&M.
Restaurant week. Twice a year. Best RW menu!
Food and service, as always, was impeccable. Looking forward to my next visit!
Best steak I’ve ever had! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Hopefully when we try the one in London it will be of the same high standard.
Lot of fat on the ribeye a ton. A ton
Overall, it was a disappointing experience. Our waiter seemed a bit overwhelmed and did not have his heart in giving us a particularly good experience. At one point he made a comment about the number of tables he was covering and that other groups were having dessert while we were just ordering. When he brought our salads, he just handed me the plate vs walking around to put it down. When I asked if any of the 4 dessert options on the RW menu were especially popular or considered hallmarks of the restaurant, he just said that they were all good. Most egregiously, when he came back with the credit card receipts, the credit card was not returned and another waiter found it lying on a counter. The food was good but because of the inferior service, overall it was not one of our better dining experiences.
Excellent service and good food choices for restaurant week.
They should have offered a small portion of vegetable on the side of the meat dish. We had to pay extra for a side dish.
The table for 2 was very tiny and very close to the next table.
Best steak sauce ever!
Excellent food, service and atmosphere - as always!
Steak (filet and sirloin) both under seasoned. Needed to add salt and use their steak sauce (never have to season at other restaurants). Surprisingly, the seafood items they had were very well seasoned and prepared. Service was bad. Taking my plate while I was still on my last bite. Checked off my list...won’t be going back.
Fantastic better than Lincoln, Benjamin's, petey lugers and all those other chop house
It was a great value.
We went for Restaurant Week.
The steak was not as tender, but still good value.
The waiter was very quick and efficient.
The service was quite terrible. And they did not serve the right quantity of meat.
Food was amazing as always :) We will definitely be back again !
Our waiters and service were exceptional. It's been a few years since 3 of us had visited before. Just felt the taste of the filet was not the same. We were there by chance during restaurant week. Great value. Split pea soup was great. Oysters were very good and nice size.. Grilled mushrooms were tough. Bourbon pecan was good and not too sweet. The stake was good but not exceptional as it was the last time we ate there, be it some years ago. Also the table we had for six was very cramped. Very little leg room and difficult for even the server to get to us. Good thing they were exceptional.
So disappointing. Heard it was “the best steak house in NYC” so so far from it. Food was just about average. We did the restaurant week deal. Everything was an add on, the steaks came completely on their own, portion of onion rings $16, mashed potato $14 etc. I got charged $9.50 for a small bottle of Coca Cola. Will never return
This was my 6th time going to Smith and Wollensky. The food is always so good, I was celebrating my bday and my kids and I had a nice time. The atmosphere is great as well. Everyone was friendly and the staff is very attentive. Cant wait to return
Great food, great service and great value! I would recommend this to my friends and families
Great steak and a real New York Atmosphere, the staff were knowledgeable and
