We enjoyed dining at Smith & Wollensky last evening. Our waitress Sheryl made our experience that much better. She was an amazing waitress with a great personality. That is what makes your dining experience wonderful!

Katie, our server, was wonderful--friendly, present without being overbearing, recommendations for food were spot-on; enjoyed the food despite the pricey menu, meal was pretty incredible. Had the filet with the chili/cocoa rub--might be my favorite way to have filet now--not hot or sweet, just, as Katie predicted, a depth of taste that was delightful. Warning on desserts--they are huge, definitely share (at least the cakes-saw several besides the coconut that we had, come out and very generous "slices"). So hospitable, let us take the elevator to the top floor to see some of the historic detail. Very special to eat in a castle!

We went to S&W Back Bay as a family with two teens, in an annual birthday visit to a different steakhouse for our steak-loving teen. Compared to the past 6-7 other Boston area steakhouses we've tried (Capital Grille, Davios, Mortons, Strega, Ruth Chris, etc.) this was the least enjoyable meal and the least attention our birthday boy has received. The food was fine but not great and not worth the $. The atmosphere was nice but again not terrific. While numerous other steakhouses have given our son a dessert gratis, often dressed up for a birthday occasion, this restaurant did nothing but provide a signed card. Again, was not bad, but was not worth the $500 for a family of 4 and won't revisit this restaurant.

Went to dinner with my sister, and best friend to celebrate my engagement/pregnancy. Amy was our server, and she kept us laughing from beginning to end. She was very attentative, and super helpful when it came time to pick entrees. We stayed for a few hours, and did not feel rushed whatsoever, which is always nice. At the end, Amy sent out a complimentary dessert, in honor of the occasion, making my special night even more special. I would definitely recommend Smith & Wollenskys to anyone planning a date night, special occasion, or just a good atmosphere along with good food, drinks, and service! Thanks again Amy, you were awesome!

We have been to Smith & Wollensky, Back Bay many times. This past Saturday we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, Sherryl, our usual waitress (who went home sick) placed flowers on our table! Our meal was served by Amy who was wonderful. She was very attentive and friendly. The food, as always, was delicious! All in all we were very very pleased and look forward to returning.

Our server, Amy, was fantastic. She went the “extra mile” because it was a special occasion and really made it special. (The meal was excellent also, and the “castle” venue is enchanting.)

The Back Bay Castle was such a unique dining place with such history, but overall my husband and I agreed that for the cost, was a bit disappointing. We were seated in a booth in the center dining room and found the noise level was a bit too loud for our comfort. My husband had the filet and lobster tail that were “ok... nothing spectacular” I had the Veal Chop, which I have to say was “ ok... nothing spectacular” Our waiter was very busy and not as efficient or engaging as you would expect in a higher end dining room as this. I probably would be hesitant to recommend to friends.

The service by Scherryl was impeccable...her knowledge of the menu and ability to gauge what our group was looking for in the way of a dining experience was spot on. 2 of3 meals outstanding...my twin filets a little on the dry side though...highly recommend the coffee and cocoa crusted filet.

Our daughter asked to go to a steakhouse for her 16th birthday, so we decided to go upscale and check out one of the premier steakhouses in town. No problems with the reservation or arrival. We were seated in the Chef's room on the first floor, the room immediately on the left. The room was around half way full, so it was easy to talk to each other. High ceilings and a lot of "old wood" for atmosphere. Waitress was prompt and took good care of us. the bus man was attentive as well. the bread was fresh & hot, I enjoyed the rosemary on the top. Food was good, we four of us) got beef, 3 filet mignons (one with bacon) and a ribeye. sides were carrots (really good) mac & cheese (thumbs up), broccoli (good) and a giant hash brown. we also got a nice bottle of pinot noir (Erath). Everything was cooked as requested. We were full, so we declined on desert. The staff gave my Daughter a a signed B-card, which was cute. The manager also checked in on us during the meal. We peeked at the main dining room on the way out, which had more of a "vibe" than the chef's room. Expensive evening, but I am comfortable with what I got in return.

I heard about Smith & Wollensky's from a TV program called "Phantom Gourmet". I was impressed with how beautiful the place was, as well as the food that was featured on the show. The building itself was beautiful! I loved the architectural detail.
We were in Boston for our 10th anniversary and we wanted to go somewhere special. We were greeted and seated at our table. The service was amazing. My husband and I thought the food was delicious, however we found the food to be overpriced.
The staff were aware of our anniversary so at the end of our meal, they presented us with complimentary champagne. What a nice and thoughtful touch!

The castle the restaurant is in was impressive. We toured 4 floors of Militia history. The evening started out with prompt seating. Our server Amy was the highlight of the evening. She promoted the SW house wine with a blind tasting and gave the history of the facility.

We had appetizers which were fair and ordered our entre with two sides. The wait was too long at about 45 minutes. The steaks and sides were cold. The manager came by and checked on us and we told him our concerns. He offered a reheat or replacement, but said replacement could take longer. As seasoned dinners we knew reheat meant overdone but could not wait another 45 minutes. We ask for reheat, and indeed it came back overdone.

We tried it but passed on it. The manager and server apologized and only billed for what we ate.

As all was good, but the food temperature. I would say the Chef was at fault, for a flopped evening. All food needs to be checked immediatly before serving and plainly that did not happen. With three steak houses within sight SW can not afford an amature error like this.

I hope we were an exception, but don'r think we are.

We have returned several times to this S&W location and have been fortunate to have Sheryl as our waitperson. She is personable, knowledgeable and one of the best we've ever had. The food is very good and my dining companion and I want to highly recommend the beef rib macaroni & cheese side dish. There was enough for us to have dinner on the leftovers along with a salad so it was well worth the price.

The steaks are top notch. Our choices this time were the rib eye and the strip steak. Both were perfectly prepared and large enough to take home to serve as the centerpiece of a second meal.

I took my boyfriend to Smith and Wollensky's for his birthday and couldnt habe been happier with the experience. Our waitor was bery helpful with suggesting wine (which we loved!) and the food was wonderful. We got tuna tartare and oysters to start, then prime rib with shrimp (they had a great deal to add shrimp or lobster for $5) with corn and a mac and cheese trio. To die for, really. They take great care of you there, especially for birthdays!

What a disappointment this was. I booked a table for 2 two months upfront to celebrate our anniversary. It started well with the host (who did a great job), but once at the table it was one disappointment after the other. Never was our anniversary mentioned (although indicated upon Open Table booking). The Chef's Seasonal Vegetable was not available ("I don't know why they continue to put this on the menu", our waiter explained). No specials were mentioned. My wife ordered the Prime NY Strip medium-rare, I ordered the Prime NY Strip au Poivre medium. When they brought the entrees to the table, they changed plates. My wife's NY Strip was not medium-rare but almost well done, while I received a Filet Mignon instead of the NY Strip I ordered. The Filet was kind of tasty, but the NY Strip was rather tasteless. The 2 half sides we ordered were good to excellent.
We didn't see/feel any passion, interest or commitment. Was this a complete off day of the S&W team, or is there a structural problem? We don't know, but the restaurant being only half filled on a Saturday evening is not a good sign.
