Smith & Wollensky Boston – Atlantic Wharf Ratings and Reviews
I ate lunch there yesterday and normally have a great experience. I had the tenderloin tips on a wollensky salad and the tips were undercooked (I ordered them medium and they were very rare) had a lot of gristle and tasted very strong (like they were about to go bad). The salad itself was overdressed. Very disappointing.
We had a lovely meal at S & W as usual. This was a particularly great evening as we were celebrating an 85th birthday. Salads, crab cakes, steaks were all wonderful and cooked to perfection. Our waiter Peter was superb and surprised us with a delicious chocolate cake and whipped cream for the table. The atmosphere was as a steak house should be; we were able to carry on a conversation and overall is was warm, cozy and yet lively. I am a regular host for events here but I am glad to have had such an amazing evening with my family this occasion. Thank you S & W!!!
Our table was ready upon arrival. We were immediately greeted with a card and sparkling wine in celebration of our anniversary. This made the whole night for both of us making our event even more unique/special.
The service was relaxed and professional. A recommendation for wine paring was right on with the steak. The steaks were cooked to medium as requested, and the side of carrots a unique taste (excellent taste btw!)
All being said, we will see us there again!
Thank you S&W
My wife and I have had the pleasure of dining here twice. Once back in 2006 and again a week ago to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary. In both cases, the service and the food were beyond reproach. I ordered the filet mignon oscar both visits; a perfect steak with asparagus and crabmeat with a hollandaise sauce. I've had incredible steaks over the years (including some well known steak houses in Chicago) and this was my favorite. The 10oz size was perfect for me.
The wait staff was fantastic, treating us both like royalty! I can't say enough good things about the dining experience here. You will not be disappointed! I look forward to visiting again soon.
We dined here for Christmas dinner. Our table was right next to the window which is what I had requested. The restaurant is beautiful. We were served bread and butter fairly quickly which was nice. Our waitress was either swamped or checked out. She served our dinner but never brought me a plate. So as my family was eating dinner on their nice warm plates I waited until she came by (which was infrequent at best) to ask for a plate. She then brought me an ice cold plate which only made my steak which was already Luke warm even more cold. When we got a refill on our drinks she never bothered to take the old cups so for a party of 6 with multiple refills it makes a somewhat small table more cluttered.
Overall the food was good but service was lacking. For an upscale steak house I expected a lot more. Especially when our tab was over $400. I’d stick with the capital grill where they come and dust your crumbs off the table.
Three of us went for Christmas lunch. The food was excellent, but our waitress let the restaurant down. Because it was Christmas I did not complain, but we ordered an expensive bottle of Champagne and she spilt quite a lot of it by over-pouring, with no apology. I could only eat half of my entree, so asked to take it home along with a couple of the side dishes. She took the food and when we had paid the bill I asked for the take home bag and she didn't remember. Said she would check. She did not come back or near our table again. Food great, service very disappointing. I have eaten at this restaurant many times and have always had great service, so it was disappointing.
Steak tip Caesar salad was not good. Each of the steak tips was gristly and sinewy. Chewing, chewing and then looking for an opportunity to push what I couldn't swallow into my napkin. Gross yes but what was I to do. A lousy memory of what should have been a nice fancy lunch.
Wonderful steak - we had the porterhouse for two. The hash browns were so delish and nicely crisped. The room is beautiful and the service very good overall.
Only one gripe - we asked them to pack up our leftovers. When I got home and was putting the food away, I realized they didn’t pack the bone. The bone is a key part of a porterhouse steak! We hadn’t touched the bone at the restaurant, and it had a lot of meat left on it so I was super bummed that the server for some reason decided not to pack it up for us.
Went there for a celebration with the family. The restaurant was pretty quiet for 7:00 on a Friday night during the holiday season, which in retrospect should have been a warning sign. The good: the wine selection and steaks were very good, which is expected at places like this (and Ruths Chris, Morton's, Capital Grille). The bad: 1) the appetizers (Brussel sprouts, carrots, gratin potatoes) were not good at all; and 2) the service in all respects - amount of time kept waiting, plates were not cleared in a timely manner, asked for drink refresh that never came, etc.
Our group reservation was for noon on a Thursday. We were seated at 12:05 and ordered around 12:10. Appetizers arrived at 12:50 and main courses at 1:30!!!! On top of that, we had three orders of steak tips ordered medium, and they arrived rare. Our server was very polite but this is just unacceptable service. Never again.
Steak was cold...place was pretty full but still not an excuse when you're paying $50 for a piece of meat. They heated it up but still wasn't great. Also took a very long time to get our dinner (although apps came out really fast). I'm assuming my meal sat there for 10 minutes which is why it wasn't hot when served. Disappointed as I've been to other locations that were better.
I went here for lunch the other day with a coworker. Server gave me a dinner menu, which I didn't notice at first. I asked if I could order from there, and he said it was fine. Got the porterhouse for 2 and some sides. Food took over 1 hour to come out. Manager came out and apologized, but still -- 1 HOUR. Other than that, S&W is still a great place for a steak.
