Smith & Wollensky Boston – Atlantic Wharf Ratings and Reviews
We had several mediocre meals here. Thought it was our luck. Decided to give it another try and was thoroughly disappointed. It has not improved. It actually got worse. Establishment removed a few of our favorites . Clam casino, bone marrow to name the top two. We asked for crispy hash browns, but didn’t get it. So we addressed this with our waiter, then we got a very charred replacement. Also, the meals were mixed up. We had to figure out who ordered which steaks. Don’t order split pea soup, it was bland and cement texture. Hate to give such negative reviews, but hopefully this would improve the restaurant quality and service. Prospective Patrons be ware.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a while! We started with burrata and angry shrimp. Both were excellent although I wish the burrata was served with bread rather than a cracker. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and flavored superbly. I had the Filet Oscar and my fiancé had the chocolate and coffee rubbed filet. We left full, happy and hoping to return soon.
Second visit to a Smith and Wollensky. First in Chicago and now here . Zero for two.
There are simply too many exquisite steak places to be disappointed. So wanted it to be great, after seeing the scene from "Devil wears Prada." The movie put them on the map; the product takes them off.
Four old friends gathered for lunch at S & W. The place was exactly what we hoped for. The service was smooth and, in the best sense of the term, "invisible." Everything we wanted or needed just appeared. The food was exceptionally good. The ambiance was elegant, quiet and convivial. We came with high expectations and left feeling they had been met. Nice place. We'll go back soon.
Excellent steak, salads. We felt somewhat pressured when I ordered a NY Strip and the waitress tried to sell me on some advanced NY Strip and showed me a brochure. We were spending close to $70 a steak and could have done without the sales pitch. The service was good, but not outstanding, especially considering it was not busy. Overall, my clients and I enjoyed our food very much, and they were thrilled with the experience. Thank you.
The food was fine, but the service was terrible. I made reservations at noon for a 7PM business meal on a Monday. We arrived a few minutes after 7 and were seated between the bar and a wait staff station, looking out at mostly empty tables. I should have asked for another table, which might have avoided the waiter problem. After painfully long gaps in service, I had to locate and signal the waiter at each phase of the meal (taking meal orders, removing dinner plates, taking dessert orders, bringing the check). This was very unpleasant, since I was also trying to converse with our clients. At 10PM we were all checking our watches. I could see people at other tables looking around for service. The waiter then seemed to be on dish duty and fortunately came by with a cart of glasses for the bar where we could signal him again. The huge and repeated gaps in service made no sense since the restaurant was not busy, and made for the most unpleasant dining experience I have had in Boston.
Unfortunately not a stellar experience. The food for the most part was ok. The rib-eye au poivre was a bit too nutty (brown butter) but perfectly executed to temperature. My date was not impressed with the New York Strip. Caesar salad was good but not entirely chilled, the lump crab good. Nobody ever explained the sauces. The creme caramel was good. The french fries were not hot, soggy, undercooked and greasy. They brought another one more cooked but basically I was half way through my steak at that time.
The service issues were as follows. The Campari soda was served without a straw it certainly needed as the Campari was not mixed at all with the soda. We asked for one and it was brought. The steaks were served but we were not set up. The runner noticed and said he would bring silverware. The server stopped by to make sure we were ok but did not notice that we did not have knives or forks. We said nothing because we thought the runner was going to bring them. Three minutes later we waved down the server who just walked by looking at us but not noticing again. I then mentioned the fries situation. Overall she was very casual about the shortcomings. Once we were all done we sat in front of our dirty dishes for about ten minutes before being cleared. The server dropped off desert menus without clearing us and said she was going to come by and take away our plates. Three to five minutes late she did.
I certainly would not describe the service as crisp or particularly hospitable. If I had received this kind of service at a diner and paid $60 for dinner for two I would be ok with it, but at $280 (b4 tip) without a bottle of wine, I would expect more.
Apps were good, service was great but our $130 steak for two that was sliced in cooper pan for great presentation was undercooked. I had requested med rare and it was served very
rare. It was taken back to kitchen and flashed under a salamander which basically does not cook meat properly. This
beautiful cut of meat was ruined and the restaurant was only 40% full on a Friday night. Desert was comped but that does not
do the mistake justice by any means. I will not recommend anyone go there.
I've been to this restaurant many, many times - and I've never had an experience like this. It was a Monday at lunch, so the restaurant was NOT full. The service was incredibly slow and I ordered a Caesar salad with steak (cooked medium). It arrived with rare tenderloin on top - and one of the pieces was nearly inedible. It took over 5 minutes for anyone to come back and check so that I could send it back. Very disappointing.
Saturday night dinner for our anniversary. Wait staff was very good. A few corrections had to be made to my main course but it was immediately addressed, excellent service, friendly staff, we would definitely go back. Restaurant is convenient to waterfront as well, great location!
I have been to this location numerous amounts of times for special occasions. Each time has been nothing short of a great experience, service is always great, the food is delicious and they really make it a point to make sure your dinner experience is pleasant. Will continue to comeback and would recommend this place to friends.
Had a great lunch with friends on the patio. Server (Jason B) was patient and accommodating. My knucklehead friends were 1/2 hr late for our Reso. Table maintenance and drink refills were handled efficiently. Cobb salad the best in Boston. Bread amazing. I miss Val.
