The Smash Kitchen & Bar in Unionville is an upscale and casual comfort cuisine restaurant where dining in style is the norm and efficient service is simply the standard. The Smash Kitchen & Bar has a traditional dining area, a lounge with flat screen televisions and a large outdoor patio any of which are perfect for gathering with friends and family.
The Smash Kitchen & Bar menu includes salads, sandwiches, burgers, pastas and coal fired oven pizza. Chef favorites that should not be missed include half rack & mac of barbeque ribs and mac and cheese with chipotle lime roasted corn or mushroom linguini with pesto cream.
Great local neighbourhood spot, excellent chef level food with fresh ingredients, great creativity, and most importantly delicious. Brunch is fabulous (compared to any great spot in any big city) and lunch is great. Smash burger is solid. Great for families with kids too.
It was disappointing that no Opentable points are given when making reservations via Opentable - this makes it less likely for a return to the restaurant.
This place is great every time I go. if someone is looking for a new place to try I always suggest Smash. The food is delicious and the staff are amazing. I never leave disappointed. The only complain I have ever heard from someone who I was with was that it is too loud. if you come here, make sure you make a reservation. You'll need it!
I always enjoy the food at smash but the service remains poor. Don't go in groups of 8 or more otherwise you'll be forced to pay the 18% tip.
Great ambiance and perfect for a girl's night out! Really enjoyed the pizza and the drinks list.
I have been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food quality is good, portions were big and the restaurant was nice. Can get a bit noisy on a busy night though.
Tried this place on a recommendation. Great look. Had the Burnt Ends and Firecracker shrimp for appetizers and both were fantastic. We both tried the Lobster Mac and Cheese as recommended by our server. They hit this one out of the park. Would definitely recommend and return.
Smash Kitchen & Bar is tucked away in a non-descript plaza in Markham but once you enter the doors there is an air of laid back sophistication without a shred of pretentiousness. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. My dinner companion and I were seated at a less noisy area of the restaurant. They also have private rooms for groups. The prices were reasonable - more than a chain restaurant like Moxie's, Kelsey's, etc. but the menu was very eclectic with some pastas, salads, burgers, pizzas and some dishes with an Asian flair. A good place to go for a fun dining experience with friends or a loved one. Good neighbourhood spot. Food was good and some creative additions with some menu items. A good spot to check out.
Great place for family and groups! Different food for everyone
We made the reservation for 8:00 and we were 10-15 minutes getting seated, but, the ambiance and our bartender's genuine ability to talk made the wait a non-issue. In general the food was spot-on and the service great. The manager was circulating during the evening which is the sign of a good restaurant. We will definitely return in the new year.
Went here for my birthday with 10 people total. Had auto grat of 18% because of 10 people which they did tell me beforehand. The seating was a bit tight where they had the table. The service was good. Noise level was a bit loud because there were so many squeezed in the space.
Food was great I had the fried chicken and a mini donut for dessert.
Loved that the noise level wasn't high. The atmosphere was cozy and nice and the food and service were excellent. Will definitely return.
Wood oven pizza was very good but most impressed with my server.
The food was outstanding and the service was attentive and friendly. The wood oven pizza selection was remarkable and the bacon and egg pizza was the talk of the table. Our first visit to Smash will be the beginning of many to come!!!!!
I used to love this restaurant and used the find the portions great. However, last time I went I ordered a different entree (the half chicken dinner). It was so unbelievably small especially for the price!! I had more veggies than actual chicken...it was ridiculous.
Food was delicious. Good serving size. It was sangria night which we thoroughly enjoyed.
I gave smash two chances but both times the service was slow and the food left much to be desired. I had the burger the first time and it was dry and only warm by the time they brought it out and the second time I had chicken and waffles - not good the waffle batter wasn't light and fluffy, the coating on the chicken was too thick and it seemed double fried with old oil - the chicken was very dark and thin and crunchy in not a nice way. The milkshakes weren't thick enough either.
Wish they did better since it's such a cute atmosphere
Manny, our server went above and beyond for my husband and I. From his menu suggestions to knowing exactly when to serve our meals giving us time to relax between appetizers and drinks. His smile spoke volumes and we hope to have him again :)
Our evening did not begin well. We waited 45 minutes for a table even though we had reservations for 630pm and had requested a booth. When a group of 6 arrived and were immediately escorted to a booth my patience ran out. I spoke with the hostess who gave me the "they had reservations" spiel. We had words and my last words were that we were leaving. It was amazing, a table for four was ready. The Manager apologized and offered free apps for the table and promised us that the food would make up for the long wait. He was right. The ahi tuna wontons were perfect. The crab/shrimp cakes were just the right bite. The firecracker shrimp with bacon was seasoned perfectly. Only wished that the tails had been removed. Our mains were the Monster Burger and it certainly was. Tasty onion rings, sauce, patties were cooked to order, awesome. If that wasn't enough there were sweet potato fries to go with. The paella was a sizable portion. If you order this make sure you a hungry. The shrimp was juicy and the mussels were nicely cooked and this dish had the right spice kick. The strip loin steak was cooked to perfection, and the sweet potato were actually crispy, the broccoli rob was a nice side. The \Hawaiian Love cocktail was sooo good that we women had to order two. Our server was aware of our wait and truly set the vibe for the evening. I wish I could remember her name because she is a gem. She made us feel like we were the only table that she was serving. She was so attentive, funny, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu. She is definitely a keeper. I hope that when we visit Smash Bar again that she will be our server. Smash Bar is a loud, energetic, foodie type of bar/restaurant. If we lived closer it would definitely be our go to date night restaurant.
On our way to the Markham Theatre I found Smash on the web and reserved a table on line. We were greeted by a smiling hostess, seated at a comfortable table and a string of servers made sure we had everything we needed. The food was great and very reasonably priced. Its going to be a regular stop when we are in the area.
