Great local neighbourhood spot, excellent chef level food with fresh ingredients, great creativity, and most importantly delicious. Brunch is fabulous (compared to any great spot in any big city) and lunch is great. Smash burger is solid. Great for families with kids too.
It was disappointing that no Opentable points are given when making reservations via Opentable - this makes it less likely for a return to the restaurant.
This place is great every time I go. if someone is looking for a new place to try I always suggest Smash. The food is delicious and the staff are amazing. I never leave disappointed. The only complain I have ever heard from someone who I was with was that it is too loud. if you come here, make sure you make a reservation. You'll need it!
I always enjoy the food at smash but the service remains poor. Don't go in groups of 8 or more otherwise you'll be forced to pay the 18% tip.
Great ambiance and perfect for a girl's night out! Really enjoyed the pizza and the drinks list.
I have been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food quality is good, portions were big and the restaurant was nice. Can get a bit noisy on a busy night though.
Tried this place on a recommendation. Great look. Had the Burnt Ends and Firecracker shrimp for appetizers and both were fantastic. We both tried the Lobster Mac and Cheese as recommended by our server. They hit this one out of the park. Would definitely recommend and return.
Smash Kitchen & Bar is tucked away in a non-descript plaza in Markham but once you enter the doors there is an air of laid back sophistication without a shred of pretentiousness. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. My dinner companion and I were seated at a less noisy area of the restaurant. They also have private rooms for groups. The prices were reasonable - more than a chain restaurant like Moxie's, Kelsey's, etc. but the menu was very eclectic with some pastas, salads, burgers, pizzas and some dishes with an Asian flair. A good place to go for a fun dining experience with friends or a loved one. Good neighbourhood spot. Food was good and some creative additions with some menu items. A good spot to check out.
Great place for family and groups! Different food for everyone
We made the reservation for 8:00 and we were 10-15 minutes getting seated, but, the ambiance and our bartender's genuine ability to talk made the wait a non-issue. In general the food was spot-on and the service great. The manager was circulating during the evening which is the sign of a good restaurant. We will definitely return in the new year.
Went here for my birthday with 10 people total. Had auto grat of 18% because of 10 people which they did tell me beforehand. The seating was a bit tight where they had the table. The service was good. Noise level was a bit loud because there were so many squeezed in the space.
Food was great I had the fried chicken and a mini donut for dessert.
Loved that the noise level wasn't high. The atmosphere was cozy and nice and the food and service were excellent. Will definitely return.
Wood oven pizza was very good but most impressed with my server.
The food was outstanding and the service was attentive and friendly. The wood oven pizza selection was remarkable and the bacon and egg pizza was the talk of the table. Our first visit to Smash will be the beginning of many to come!!!!!
I used to love this restaurant and used the find the portions great. However, last time I went I ordered a different entree (the half chicken dinner). It was so unbelievably small especially for the price!! I had more veggies than actual chicken...it was ridiculous.
Food was delicious. Good serving size. It was sangria night which we thoroughly enjoyed.
I gave smash two chances but both times the service was slow and the food left much to be desired. I had the burger the first time and it was dry and only warm by the time they brought it out and the second time I had chicken and waffles - not good the waffle batter wasn't light and fluffy, the coating on the chicken was too thick and it seemed double fried with old oil - the chicken was very dark and thin and crunchy in not a nice way. The milkshakes weren't thick enough either.
Wish they did better since it's such a cute atmosphere
Manny, our server went above and beyond for my husband and I. From his menu suggestions to knowing exactly when to serve our meals giving us time to relax between appetizers and drinks. His smile spoke volumes and we hope to have him again :)
Our evening did not begin well. We waited 45 minutes for a table even though we had reservations for 630pm and had requested a booth. When a group of 6 arrived and were immediately escorted to a booth my patience ran out. I spoke with the hostess who gave me the "they had reservations" spiel. We had words and my last words were that we were leaving. It was amazing, a table for four was ready. The Manager apologized and offered free apps for the table and promised us that the food would make up for the long wait. He was right. The ahi tuna wontons were perfect. The crab/shrimp cakes were just the right bite. The firecracker shrimp with bacon was seasoned perfectly. Only wished that the tails had been removed. Our mains were the Monster Burger and it certainly was. Tasty onion rings, sauce, patties were cooked to order, awesome. If that wasn't enough there were sweet potato fries to go with. The paella was a sizable portion. If you order this make sure you a hungry. The shrimp was juicy and the mussels were nicely cooked and this dish had the right spice kick. The strip loin steak was cooked to perfection, and the sweet potato were actually crispy, the broccoli rob was a nice side. The \Hawaiian Love cocktail was sooo good that we women had to order two. Our server was aware of our wait and truly set the vibe for the evening. I wish I could remember her name because she is a gem. She made us feel like we were the only table that she was serving. She was so attentive, funny, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu. She is definitely a keeper. I hope that when we visit Smash Bar again that she will be our server. Smash Bar is a loud, energetic, foodie type of bar/restaurant. If we lived closer it would definitely be our go to date night restaurant.
On our way to the Markham Theatre I found Smash on the web and reserved a table on line. We were greeted by a smiling hostess, seated at a comfortable table and a string of servers made sure we had everything we needed. The food was great and very reasonably priced. Its going to be a regular stop when we are in the area.
Located in a strip mall, the food is consistently great, no matter what you order. Wait staff are pleasant and helpful. No one pushes you out. Great ambiance and again, great food. We had the staples, salads, burger, fries, pizza....all excellent. We have never been disappointed here and always have a "smash" of a good time.
The server was very friendly and patient. The manager stopped by and he was awesome. The food was delicious.
Love Smash! We have been multiple times now and it has been superb!
My girlfriends and I had been eyeing your menu online for about a week.. We came in knowing exactly what we wanted to try and we were NOT disappointed! The Beef Cheek Poutine by far was what blew us away the most! Rich & delicious gravy, melt in your mouth beef, squeeky cheese curds all atop golden brown fries.. Absolutely delicious!!! And your Banana toffee cake dessert was nothing short of heavenly.. The service was great! It's pretty clear that you run a very tight ship over at Smash.. everyone works together to ensure the guests have a great experience. Thank you so much!
Food is fresh and hot from kitchen. We ordered ribs. Very happy with it. Only the chipotle corn was a little too spicy for me but that's a personal preference.
Had dinner there a few weeks ago and, went for brunch this Sunday and it was great. Very reasonable prices.
We ate diner at Smash on November 21 and used a discount coupon. . There were 2 couples and we all ordered the halibut special served with risotto. The meal was outstanding! All four dinners came out together and were hot. Service was attentive without being rushed and even the manager, Jason, dropped by our table to see how everything was. we were treated as welcome guests. A return to this restaurant is definitely in order.
Went here for dinner on the weekend and from start to finish the food and service was amazing! We were about 30 mins early for our reservation but they said that wouldn't be a problem and we were seated at a nice big booth. The waitress was very friendly and efficient. Food was excellent and the steak was cooked perfectly.
Good is VERY good and that's likely why people go back and it is busy.
But the service is pretty slow and you have to track your waitress/waiter down to service.
Seating and atmosphere is okay. Ordered lamb shank and the sauce was stupid salty. Mashed potatoes were good. Manager offered free dessert as a compromise. Ordered Mango sherbet but got raspberry instead. Waitress was socializing by the bar with other colleagues than making her rounds. Took too long to get a hold of her for water, bill, etc.
This place would be satisfactory for special occasions but not for the regular dinner.
Finally visited this neighbourhood gem -- it's now on our must go to list! What a treat. Service was great, food was delicious!
Server was friendly and the food was decent for brunch in markham. I would definitely come back again :)
Went on a Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. Great restaurant, food, amazing service. Only down side were the crying kids. Even though the restaurant tried to seat all the families with kids in one area it soon got very noisy. Restaurant got very busy after 7:30 and of course the noise level picked up again, but that's to be expected. For a couple out for a nice dinner I would ask to be seated in the other room with the fireplace next time, probably quieter. Will definitely be going again and will bring friends. A little hard to find in the plaza, not very well signed if you don't know the area.
The food was great great great great! The service was lacking a bit as I could not find the waitress, not sure if she was managing to much or what happened, but we had to ask for the bill after about 15 mins of waiting and by the time she asked how our meal was (it was in passing) and we had already finished (so where did she go). I am definitely going back soon, I wish I had found it sooner but I had no idea that Smash was a restaurant from the sign outside, but thanks to food bloggers I found this hidden gem!
We are pleasantly surprised by this restaurant which offers good brunch choices at reasonable price and with good seating. Unlike other chain store breakfast places, you are not rushed to leave and the servers were very courteous even if you were there for a couple of hours.
Group of 10 for lunch food was great everything everyone ordered was delicious, and great selection of desserts. Especially enjoy the daily drink specials. Place is modern, clean, and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the service was Very slow very forgetful and server had no idea what daily specials were. Appetizers and drinks never came out instead came with the meal. Up to you if your willing to sit through the horrible service for a delicious meal. Hopefully management steps up to train staff, its a great place that I would definitely give a second chance.
Tip: pay with credit/debit to avoid long wait for change and then receiving incorrect change resulting in an even longer wait
Delicious food! Will be back. :)
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with friendly service. I was over an hour early for my reservation so I had to wait for a while but they got us a seat earlier than expected. Service was great and the experience was good. A bit too loud for my liking but not a huge deal.
Was pleasantly surprised! Tucked away in the corner of the strip mall, you'd hardly know it was there. But once you go in, it's a nice set up. A mix of traditional seating, bar style seating, and private and semi-private spaces. Food was excellent. The lobster mac and cheese was great, and the ribs were surprisingly tasty. The buttermilk fried chicken was a bit on the salty side, but all other dishes was better than expected for Markham standards. Highly recommend!
We had the Smash burger and the Topless Steak Sandwich and they were fantastic. I wanted just a few fries and salad as my side and they were very willing to accomodate. Do not miss the desserts! We had carrot cake, which was light, aromatic and very fresh. Found out the cook has a passion for making desserts and all is made in house...and it shows! We will be going back soon.
