Very cute place! Food was delicious. Our waitress was very nice
I really loved the persimmon salad... the ricotta was delicious and can’t get enough of this fruit while in season! I also loved the coconut rice. Yum!! I’ll definitely be back:) I will say that the chairs were a little uncomfortable at the bar, so might not sit there next visit.
we were there twice in 8 days, both times the experience was wonderful. The mussels are to die for. Thanks for a great time.
What a neighborhood gem! Love the use of super high quality ingredients. Food was delicious and not overly expensive. Great natural wine options. Sorry it took us so long to try it. We’ll be here regularly going forward.
The Persimmon salad and dinner rolls were next level! So delicious! Great food and excellent service. Such a charming spot.
By the standards of excellent food, friendly and informed service and inviting atmosphere, this place should be packed. I’m kinda glad it’s not but it is now one of my all time favorites for a great meal with friends. You should come too.
Delicious food. The mussels with curried coconut were a revelation. Definitely recommend as a perfect neighborhood restaurant.
Food was delicious! Ambiance is quiet so it’s nice to enjoy a meal and having an easy time talking to your guests. Service was on point. And overall, it’s an awesome neighborhood gem. Will be returning for sure.
This experience was a big disappointment. I have a garlic allergy and they were not able to accommodate this. Our server was friendly but told us there were only 2 items were garlic free and didn’t offer to have chef make something that I could eat, which is usually what upscale restaurants offer. I would understand if they were packed but we were 2 of 4 dining at the time. We ended up eating dinner rolls and leaving to find another place to eat.
Lots of good food choices and interesting flavors.
A small menu but with delicious dishes. The ambience and service are exceptional. The noise level is modest which is a pleasant exception to many restaurants today. Reasonable prices add to a great experience. I look forward to returning.
Such a cozy space with shared plates -- the staff, food, and wine is exceptional. Perfect for dates, friends of families -- AND they LOVE kids!!
Outstanding service, outstanding menu, outstanding price, outstanding ambience. The breakfastey salad with jalapeno dressing and rye breadcrumbs, add smoked trout, will be a recipe I crave constantly, try, in vain, to replicate at home, but ultimately return for. Thoughtful cocktails, super-fresh ingredients.
Cozy and lovely!!! Could go there anytime. Highly recommend
We absolutely love Small Town. Every part of our brunch was fantastic. From the aesthetics to the service to the food, it was all perfection. We are already planning our next visit to this gem.
Very kind service and great ambiance dinner! I would love to go again!
Wonderful food and lovely service in beautiful setting!
Great food and service. It's a second floor site, so expect a stairway.
Really lovely space, good food and service. Very warm, private, and cozy inside. Honesty we felt like we were outside of LA, which, for locals, is a great feeling. Food was yummy. The beef tartar, sunchokes, sea bass, and pork collar were all fantastic. Plenty of gluten free options or dishes they were able to make gluten free. Will definitely be going back.
Overpriced fare in friendly atmosphere. Portions are small.
Inventive food, friendly attentive service, great outdoor patio setting.
Wonderful service, food and ambiance. The perfect trilogy!!
Food was amazing. Very cool spot, and the service was impeccable.
Overall I thought the food was well-prepared, the service was excellent and the ambiance was quite nice. I thought it was a bit overpriced as the food wasn't particularly interesting and portions were quite small. Really appreciated the corkage fee for wine so we could bring our own.
My major gripe is that there was not a single vegetarian or vegan entree on the menu. Every single entre revolved around meat/fish. In 2019 seems shortsighted not to offer a vegetable-centered dish and there are just loads of great options even for non-meat meats. Probably won't be back since many friends these days are passing on meat. I know this restaurant is likely a bit like "forage" and paleo-friendly, but no reason not to throw a veg dish or two in there :/
We decided to dine inside rather than outside, and we were really happy with the ambiance/vibe and it was the perfect place to have a relaxing team dinner after a long day of business. Every single dish was perfectly prepared. I was really blown away by the spiced lamb ribs. I wish they had their liquor license to serve pre-dinner cocktails and they should expand their wine list offerings. But, from the standpoint of service and quality of dining in a very chill, unpretentious environment this place is top-notch.
This place was delicious! The beef tartar was amazing! The outdoor seating has a quaint, backyard California feel and the inside was super chill and fun as well. 10/10
The ambiance is so beautiful both inside and on the patio! The food quality is also really high.
This was my first visit to Small Town. I chose outdoor seating because it's known for a really cute patio area, but if I return I would definitely choose to sit indoors. While the food was delicious and the service fantastic, I spent most of dinner shooing away flies from my meal. Also, the tables are set pretty close to one another so be aware of that.
Perfect neighborhood restaurant with great service, fantastic food and not too pricey!
A neighborhood gem! Beautiful setting tucked away so that you would never guess the place was on such a busy street. Fantastic food, great service.
Such a cozy environment. It felt like an escape from the city. The food was delicious. I had the coconut black rice which was a vegetarian dream.
Great service. Incredible food. Loved the outdoor seating.
Excellent service, very attentive wait staff who are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is outstanding. Great comfortable but stylish ambiance. Music could be a little better (more subdued). Otherwise love this place
My daughter and I came here after an event. The food was great, we had the rolls that are as good as they look in the photos! The fried cabbage with blue cheese cream and buffalo sauce, I think it was our favorite, fresh crunchy spicy and creamy. I had the pork collar, yummy with the spinach spatzel (?) pea side a great combination. And my daughter had the shrimp pasta, medium size shrimp cut bit size, flavorful sauce. Great ambiance, lots of warm wood and feel very secluded. A great patio.
My only issue is the accessibility. It is essentially on the second floor, with either stairs or a ramp to get there. My arthritis protested and ramps are even worse than stairs. However, I would still go again the food was that good.
Absolutely charming, delicious, magical little secret spot; don’t know how this wasn’t on my radar earlier! Can’t wait for cooler weather to warrant an excuse to sit by the big fireplace. Adorable and chic new go-to for any occasion. Would compare it to Ostrich Farm, Botanica, All-Time. Superb seasonal ingredients surprised and nourished. A little slice of gustatory and ambiance heaven!
Just a lovely evening out w my wife and two children. We got early reservations and the service and food were impeccable.
I've been dying to try Small Town for awhile. Happy I did finally. The food was good, a bit overpriced but decent quality. We sat outside in the garden, which is very charming.
The reason I give it 3 stars is this:
-They have a spider situation in the garden and don't take patron's discomfort seriously. Look, I get it. You're outside In LA, there are going to be spiders. I also get not wanting to kill them since they kill other bugs. I don't push my arachnophobia on others. However, when a larger than a nickel sized red/orange furry friend is consistently working his way from the ceiling to the floor on his web directly in the path of people walking, and at the shoulder of patrons at 2 different tables, I would hope we could relocate him to another location. Not only did I ask, but 4 other people did as well. Our waitress was very dismissive each time someone expressed concern or discomfort. And while she refused or brushed off the requests each time with a smile, it felt quite patronizing. The hostess, the busser, and the other waitress all did nothing either. Each dismissing the requests individually. Finally, someone at another table took it upon themselves to capture and move the friend after it essentially landed on his shoulder and the waitress actually got huffy with him about it.
I worked in restaurants for years. The comfort of the patrons is the priority. Period. End of story.
-We ordered a starter salad of cherry tomatoes and eggplant. We got a cucumber and heirloom tomato salad with eggplant sauce on the bottom. It was ok. But honestly, I could have made it in my kitchen in about 5 minutes and not spent $13. It was underwhelming and not true to the menu description.
Overall, underwhelmed. The space is super cute, the food was fine, the service was nice but patronizing. With so many amazing places on the east side, I doubt I'll be back.
nice treehouse like restaurant nestled on the side of the hill - a bit of a northern california vibe..food is excellent, service was lovely - we were there on a Tuesday night - so not sure how it is on weekends. the only thing I might recommend is a little more lighting at the table to read the menu.. a bit dark.
The Ambience is what makes this place. The food is yummy, wine list great, and service is good, but the feel of the place brings it up a notch. From the entrance to the back bar, it was a great vibe, and furnishings added to the feel. As far as the food, bread was delicious, fries well done, stone salad good, and our T-bone was just okay. The wine list was good, we had two bottles of red and didn’t disappoint. We also had the chocolate cake on account that it was friends birthday, and it was nothing to talk about. Parking sucks so we needed to valet, but that was expected, but overall, a nice dinner. Will have to comeback for their brunch.
