Slightly North of Broad Ratings and Reviews
Very disappointed.. Upon arrival we were directed across the street to High Cotton because of renovations at SNOB. Did not like the service or treatment at that location. Will not return to either restaurant. Minimally should of been notified of renovations in advance. Above marks are therefore for High Cotton.
S.N.O.B. has a great staff, and an enjoyable atmosphere, but they've lost their "southern-ness" over the years I've been eating there. The menu is indistinguished, and we suspect all too many of the customers think it's a good restaurant because they've been told it's a good restaurant. Indeed, SNOB is resting too much on their laurels. I suspect the new owners (it was just bought recently) know how to run a decent steak house, but not how to run a 5-star restaurant.
We were unable to get reservations on Saturday before New Year's Eve at a couple of the "hot" restaurants in Charleston. Through Open Table we found a spot at SNOB. Frankly, our expectations were not high, so we were very pleasantly surprised. The food, the service and the ambience were spot on. I was told before by a local Charleston lady that SNOB had gone through an ownership change recently and was much improved. She was right. I will go back the next time in town.
This is a Brunch Review - The food was not what I would expect from an establishment with such a great reputation. We had steak & eggs and the crab lump salad. The steak was tasty but the eggs were over cooked. The crab lump salad was bland and left a lot to be desired. So the food was average. However, the service was absolutely amazing, some of the best we have received in Charleston, and a big reason we will be returning to try dinner here. Overall, it is a wonderful location, beautiful atmosphere, and the service can’t be beat but the food needs a little work.
The ribeye and swordfish were cooked great, the beans and rice were good. The cheese board was not very impressive, 3 pieces of cheese that weren't very good. Overall the food wasn't anything special, especially for fine dining. The service was especially not up to par for fine dining. Shouldnt have an empty glass at any point especially not the entire last half of the meal. Pretty disappointed and won't be back. Good to try once but in a city known for restaurants I expected more especially if they want to compete.
SNOB was excellent. I am not a huge Shrimp and Grits fan but since my wife selected the scallops, I decided to venture out. They were unquestionably the best I ever had and the portion was very generous. It's rare that I dont clean my plate, but I couldn't. The wife's scallops were excellent. Wouldn't say best ever, but excellent. Ambiance was very nice and the waiter very knowledgeable about the food, wine, restaurant history, etc. And very friendly. I would go again in a heart beat.
Simply wonderful! As always, S.N.O.B. delivers delicious food at reasonable prices. Today's visit was a lunch for four and everyone enjoyed all of the dishes served. Standouts were the Shrimp and Grits and I loved the outstanding House Aged Corn Beef Reuben. A generously packed sandwich, between two perfectly toasted slices of Rye bread! We are in Charleston often and S.N.O.B. is our first choice for lunch!
