Slate Wine Bar Ratings and Reviews
We went as part of restaurant week which I think was the issue. I had been here a couple of times before and had a good experience (with good food and ambiance-I particularly love the bar area/street window) but this night was not a good experience. Our service was quite slow, inattentive and not at all personable. The food was decent, but the wine pairing we ordered had very small amounts of wine for the total price (all 3 together were the equivalent of maybe one glass of wine but cost $20-would have been better for us to get a bottle or individual glasses) as our glasses were more often empty then full. We could tell others around us were having a similar experience as well.
I was very excited to attend the pajama brunch on New Years Day. The meal started off well, the server was attentive and brought out our first course pretty quickly. The main entree took some time to come out. I believe because we were talking and enjoying ourselves we did not realize how long the food was taking. After awhile we realized a couple that came in after us was eating their entrees. There were only about 15 people in the restaurant so it was confusing as to why the wait was so long.
Finally our food arrived and the waffle on my chicken & waffles was cold. The strange thing was the chicken was hot, like fresh out the fryer. I returned the food and let them know the waffle was cold. When it was brought back to me I was missing a waffle. I started with 4 waffles and 4 tenders. When the food was returned I only had 3 of each, which shows me they popped it in the microwave. My friend ordered a burger & her fries were also cold.
The server discounted our bill drastically but i was very disappointed with the food. Hopefully this does not happen to anyone else and service improves.
From start to finish, Slate's staff was very accommodating to my wife and I as we celebrated her birthday during our getaway trip to DC. Each member of the staff was helpful, friendly, courteous and responsive. Our food was served hot, fresh, and delicious, and we were given suggestions for wines, which were each perfect for our meals. Thanks, Slate!
We went in on a Friday night. Had some great wine and the most delicious roast suckling pig and seafood paella. Out appetizer dish of foie gras and French toast was absolutely delicious. The food here is wonderful and the wine pairings and cocktails are great. Can't wait to go back for more.
I was very disappointed. We went to Slate to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the five course dinner with wine pairing. The service was slow and spotty. The food was unremarkable. The wine was just okay. The dessert course was terrible and needed to be sent back - twice. There was NO apology from the manager when we invited his attention to the issues. We will not be back.
Terrific neighborhood gem. Chef Lledo brings his hometown Denia (Spain) to Georgetown. This restaurant offers great value, as Chef Lledo prepares amazing plates himself from fresh quality ingredients without racking up the price. Amazing wine list. Casual yet sophisticated. For everyday or a special meal.
Great wine bar. Chef is an American-Spaniard with great cuisine at affordable prices. Amazing wine selection at moderate prices too. Great wine flights. Friendly service. Good location on the edge of Georgetown. Street parking usually available.
I've been to Slate half a dozen times, always good. I wish I lived closer to go very often.
from an overall perspective i had a great meal with my new wife. We saw large groups of people that were having a great time as well which showed us that you can either go there by yourself and sit at the bar, take that special someone on a romantic date or go with a group of friends and have a great time. The three course dinner with wine pairing was a great value, Danny picked the perfect red wine for my wife and the filet mignot was perfectly cooked medium rare and the wife loved the salmon. Would highly recommend this spot to any and all looking for either a romantic dinner or fun with friends.
Loved how quiet and low key this place was for a 11:30 a.m. brunch. Food was not spectacular, but the eggs benedict with smoked salmon was good. Bloody Mary was excellent. My monte cristo was a big disappointment though, greasy dark bread which I don't associate with this sort of sandwich. Service was a little vague (hard to describe, but it was as the server wasn't quite there) and the tables hadn't really been set up (salt and pepper tantalizingly close, visible in the service area, but not on the tables). Bathrooms had not been cleaned nor trash emptied from the night before. I'm giving it 4s because it was so pleasantly low key and quiet. Would definitely go again for a nice place to chat and enjoy brunch.
Our group of 7 visited Slate on Sunday for Mother's Day brunch. For $20, you could enjoy a two course meal, which could be paired with wine for $10 or bottomless mimosas for $15. I ordered the donut holes for my first course, which were light and airy. My boyfriend ordered the duck breast egg rolls, which was one roll cut up into three pieces, drizzled with some sort of sweet sauce. For my main course, I ordered the steak and eggs (had to pay an extra $4) that was served with home fries. My steak was cooked perfectly to my liking, as well as my over medium eggs. The mimosas are made in batches, so some were a little heavier on the OJ than the others; that would be my one recommendation to the restaurant. Other than that, we were very pleased with our experience, our waitress Elizabeth, and would love to visit again.
Celebrating graduations for daughters of two families. Owner took great personal interest in our experience and made it very special. Waitress, although on her first night, did an outstanding job and you never would have guessed. Great wine, great food, a great evening!
This is a great place for brunch, lunch and haven't been in the evening, but I'm sure is just as good! The donut holes are wispy pieces of fried goodness, fluffy, and addictive. The french toast strips are so light and fluffy inside and so crispy it's almost burnt.
The only thing is sometimes the service is overwhelming. Servers constantly asking if things are ok, can get a bit bothersome. I appreciate being taken care of, but three different people asking every five minutes disrupts the deliciousness of the food.
It won't keep me from going though! Great food, great people, and it doesn't disappoint. We even joined in for their post NYE after brunch in our pajamas (which was a great idea!) and the servers were dressed in pajamas too! It was really a fun idea.
We discovered a new restaurant on Saturday evening that is sure to become a favorite of ours. The food was innovative and delicious. The service could not have been better. The owner was there and he created the sensational dish I had which was a duck paella.
