This is such a great restaurant. It’s a little gem just north of Georgetown. The chef/owner goes out to greet everybody, and the wine list is superb. Really really great.
Everything was great and surprised us with a complimentary glass of sparkling rose after our meal.
What a gem. Great food, great wines, great service
The wine flight was a good value. The food was just ok. Lots of seafood in the paella but smaller portion overall. My husband had the crab cake and there was only one so pricey for that. The cheese and charcuterie plates were also pretty small for the prices. Great vibe, very friendly staff and will go back but likely just for a drink.
We are visiting from out of town and went for dinner this evening and had an amazing time. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food and wine were spectacular. The chef Danny Lledó came around and chatted with us several times during dinner which was really nice. The gnocci was absolutely out of the this world. Definite must visit if you are in DC.
Great for a date :)
The scallops were small and very salty and our steak was cold as well as the Brussels sprout and lastly my lobster paella had 3 shrimps and 1/2 lobster with lac luster flavor for $30 outrageous!! We definitely would not return
Everything is perfect. This is a very special restaurant.
Amazing service, food and wine- among the best I’ve had in DC but with friendly staff! Thank you so much- we will be back!
Food is absolutely delicious! And the wine pairings were perfect! Danny is such a great host. We are looking forward to our next visit. And will definitely share our great experience with our closest friends.
The Service and Food was amazing! Our waiter took his time explaining the various wine option that paired well with our entree. The ambiance was really nice, great for a date or a small gathering of friends.
Unfortunately my experience at Slate Wine Bar was pretty bad. I dined there last Friday with my CEO and her husband and I was praising on how fantastic this restaurant was based on the paella awards that they have won and the experience was so bad that I had to apologized several times: our appetizers came out after 30 minutes of ordering it (a cheese platter, nothing to cook there), the waitress couldn't explain the three different wines in the tasting flight and she put them out of order, and the PAELLA.... well the paella was so bad that two of us send our plates back untouched (dull, insipid). This situation was probably worst since it was restaurant week and it hurts me having to write this review, but the experience was so extremely bad and the date was so important that I can't trust this restaurant anymore.
I had such a good time during restaurant week Tyrone was very attentive an knowledgeable of the menu and wine pairings. I felt so welcomed and the rest of the staff their seemed to be giving a very similar experience as I was receiving. The food was delicious and creative for such simple dishes. The fried goat cheese was to die for. I could have had a plate of that. I will definitely be going back and have been telling all my friends about it!
The vanilla bean French toast is simply amazing. I’m only writing this review because of the French toast. All three slices of toast were already so flavorful, I didn’t need to drown it in syrup like I usually do. I went for brunch during restaurant week and it was understandably crowded. The manager was also very nice. Even when she asked us for our table after we paid the check, she was still very, very kind and not pushy at all. The mimosas are kind of “hit or miss”. Each batch was different but it is bottomless so I can’t expect much. Our server was fantastic though. All in all, it was a very pleasant and enjoyable brunch.
Last minute date—very pleasantly surpised and impressed. Interesting Spanish-tinged food, and well done wine pairings. Reasonably priced. Will go back
The service at Slate was amazing! Our party was a group of seven and the staff was so attentive and friendly. We were there for restaurant week, but also to celebrate my birthday and I am so glad that we decided to have dinner at Slate because it was such a great experience! The food was delicious, the meat was cooked to perfection, and everything from the first course to dessert was delicious! I highly recommend!
I came to Slate Wine Bar for Restaurant Week with a friend. We had a reservation but they had a few other large parties. The space is on the smaller side but very cute. We were initially seated near the kitchen but we didn't love that location so we ended up sitting at the bar. The staff was super apologetic for being unable to seat us at another table but they were also all very friendly and made sure we were comfortable. The food was good. We had the prix fix RW menu so we got the arugula salad, fruit salad, chicken & waffles, crabcake benedict and churros. The arugula salad and chicken & waffles were delicious. The fruit salad was standard and the crabcake benedict was ok. The potatoes with the benedict were really good though and I enjoyed the churros. Their hot cider (a bourbon cocktail) was also really yummy.
Great food and service! Loved the wine pairing suggested for my meal.
Visited during restaurant week; good prix fix menu with excellent selections. Meal was enjoyable but I made this choice based on previous experiences that were much better.
Excellent food, the best wine list, and amazing service! My wine group continue to come to Slate Wine Bar because they are the best in the city. The staff is so welcoming and attentive. They took such great care of us. I would highly recommend trying any of the wine flights and the paella is a must try! There is a reason why Chef Danny wins awards for his paella! Looking forward to our next visit.
BEST PAELLA EVER! The seafood paella at Slate Wine Bar was amazing. Chef Danny took the time to personally prepare and present the dish himself to our table. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive, one of the best dining experiences that I've had in DC. Definitely will return for more great food and wine.
My family and I visited Slate Wine Bar on News Years Day for the Pajamas Brunch. Even though we were the only customers in our pj's we had a great time. Greeted by the entire staff was so nice. Our Server Tyrone was AMAZING, tending to all of our needs and request as well as sharing some of his favorite dishes and wines on the menu. The food presentation was amazing and fresh. I really enjoyed the mushroom croquettes! I can't wait to return to Slate Wine Bar on a different day to see what else they offer.
The food for their New Years Eve Special was over priced and poor. The suckling pig had more bones and cartilage than meat. Everything was under seasoned. There is nothing we ordered that we would want to eat again. However the service was fantastic. The waiters were incredibly attentive as was the host. I want to go back because of how good they were, but the food would keep me away.
A waste of money for New Years. DJ was absolutely horrible.
The fixed menu was pricey and food was so so. Gnocchi were doughy under cooked. Roast pig very fattty, lots of skin and rubbery pieces.
We opted for a four-course meal for NYE. $55 for three courses and a dessert, an extra $30 for wine parings.
I’m a vegetarian, my fiancé eats meat and I was excited by the menu. Our first course of goat cheese balls were good, but my second course was 8-9 tiny gnocchis with no salt or seasoning, and my main was a risotto with no salt or seasoning either.
My fiancé’s meal was pretty unimpressive as well, and our desserts (pictured below) were cold and not as described. Really disappointing meal.
Ambiance, atmosphere, amazing food, and extremely knowledgable staff. Ever since my first visit I have been hooked and will continue to come back any chance I get.
Chef Danny Lledo will make up the most flavorful paella you have ever tasted, expertly pair any entree with a wine or two (or five if you're like me!), finished off with one of the richest brownies around and a truly beautiful Port, all with the friendliness of a small town establishment despite being in a city as large and bustling as DC.
Perfect decor and mood for a date, business dinner, or even a wine night with close friends.
This is my go-to spot whenever I have company from out of town, for more reasons than I could possibly write into a review.
Highly recommend Slate Wine Bar. Great food, service, wine and ambiance. Highly recommend trying their flight of wines.
Overall, not worth the money. If you are looking for quiet conversation and cozy....this isn’t the place. Loud, Uncomfortable, and bare feeling. Several issues with service and it wasn’t crowded. Fries seemed like they were frozen and bought from grocery store. 🤷♀️
We enjoyed the wine flights which allowed us to taste wine we would not have otherwise tasted.
I'll continue to come back, but the service needed improvement. None of the waiters seemed to be assigned to specific tables, so we were asked by at least three people (multiple times each) about drinks and if we wanted to order food. Felt very rushed, but we just wanted to take our time and get our drinks first!
Excellent food (especially the paella) and wine selection. Service is consistently good.
Food was amazing, and Wine Selection to make it ! had a wonderful time, fun appetizers, Best Vegtable Paella EVER !!!! NOT TO BE MISSED !!!!
I went to Slate for a casual Friday lunch; Danny (the owner) and the staff treated me wonderfully! The food was delicious, and the wine was fantastic! The ambiance is chill and comfortable. I know I will go back many times, and take my friends on special occasions! I highly recommend it!!
Great options for food and wine. Friendly service. Casual relaxed atmosphere. Will be back!
It was low quality food, and incredibly slow service.
Slate's a great wine bar and restaurant. One of its defining features is its head chef, Danny Lledo. Slate puts him, his food, and his wine selections upfront, and they all add up to a great dining experience. They have an extensive wine list and some great flights. Though, to be honest, their house options are so good I go to them more often than others! I really can't talk enough about the food--great quality and flavors. Lledo also features his award-winning paellas during competition season and upon request, and they are truly something special. His personable nature comes out when he talks to diners about their meal, and it's this personal touch, coupled with good wine and some great eats, that makes me recommend Slate to anyone.
Intimate place. Some excellent seats at the open front window were taken so we sat at a table for two in the restaurant. Nice menu: We enjoyed watermelon/arugula/goat cheese salad, duck tacos, lamb chops, red snapper. We ordered a bottle of wine but then wished we’d gone for a flight as that looked really nice. Wine was tasty but the markup was nearly3x retail which seems high. Attentive and friendly service. Good experience. We are from out of town but if we lived here we’d come back.
The food sucked and the mimosas were drowning in pulp. I guess my mistake for ordering a mimosa at a wine bar! Still had higher hopes for the food - the fruit was gross and slimy, the churros were so burnt and dry. My chicken and waffles had no seasoning. Some of the food at the table was ok, but mostly “meh”. I’d go back but only to drink half priced bottles of wine.
The food was great! The service was good too. We enjoyed it! Totally would go back again.
