Overall, not worth the money. If you are looking for quiet conversation and cozy....this isn’t the place. Loud, Uncomfortable, and bare feeling. Several issues with service and it wasn’t crowded. Fries seemed like they were frozen and bought from grocery store. 🤷♀️
We enjoyed the wine flights which allowed us to taste wine we would not have otherwise tasted.
I'll continue to come back, but the service needed improvement. None of the waiters seemed to be assigned to specific tables, so we were asked by at least three people (multiple times each) about drinks and if we wanted to order food. Felt very rushed, but we just wanted to take our time and get our drinks first!
Excellent food (especially the paella) and wine selection. Service is consistently good.
Food was amazing, and Wine Selection to make it ! had a wonderful time, fun appetizers, Best Vegtable Paella EVER !!!! NOT TO BE MISSED !!!!
I went to Slate for a casual Friday lunch; Danny (the owner) and the staff treated me wonderfully! The food was delicious, and the wine was fantastic! The ambiance is chill and comfortable. I know I will go back many times, and take my friends on special occasions! I highly recommend it!!
Great options for food and wine. Friendly service. Casual relaxed atmosphere. Will be back!
It was low quality food, and incredibly slow service.
Slate's a great wine bar and restaurant. One of its defining features is its head chef, Danny Lledo. Slate puts him, his food, and his wine selections upfront, and they all add up to a great dining experience. They have an extensive wine list and some great flights. Though, to be honest, their house options are so good I go to them more often than others! I really can't talk enough about the food--great quality and flavors. Lledo also features his award-winning paellas during competition season and upon request, and they are truly something special. His personable nature comes out when he talks to diners about their meal, and it's this personal touch, coupled with good wine and some great eats, that makes me recommend Slate to anyone.
Intimate place. Some excellent seats at the open front window were taken so we sat at a table for two in the restaurant. Nice menu: We enjoyed watermelon/arugula/goat cheese salad, duck tacos, lamb chops, red snapper. We ordered a bottle of wine but then wished we’d gone for a flight as that looked really nice. Wine was tasty but the markup was nearly3x retail which seems high. Attentive and friendly service. Good experience. We are from out of town but if we lived here we’d come back.
The food sucked and the mimosas were drowning in pulp. I guess my mistake for ordering a mimosa at a wine bar! Still had higher hopes for the food - the fruit was gross and slimy, the churros were so burnt and dry. My chicken and waffles had no seasoning. Some of the food at the table was ok, but mostly “meh”. I’d go back but only to drink half priced bottles of wine.
The food was great! The service was good too. We enjoyed it! Totally would go back again.
Came here during restaurant week with family to celebrate a birthday. I was rather disappointed with the entire experience. It feels like a newer place that was trying to have charm and character, but the lights are too bright so it just feels a little cheap. The staff was nice and attentive.
The food was ok. Scallops and egg rolls were our favorite. Their paella is award-winning, but I was very disappointed with the lack of flavor. Strawberry cake is actually a yellow cake with whipped cream and 1 strawberry.
We stuck with cocktails since the wine list was on the expensive side. I don't claim to know much about wine, but my family said that it was overpriced.
Slate is one of the best things about Glover Park. It strikes an excellent balance between a friendly, neighborhood spot and a modern restaurant exploring new flavors and ideas. The wine selection is excellent and the suggested pairings for Restaurant Week were perfect.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating about seating.
We went for Restaurant Week. I was disappointed by the small portions. Many restaurants still serve normal size portions. My husband ordered the steak and it wasn’t much more than three bites. We had to go get a burger after. I ordered the gnocchi and was sad to find it flavorless and the peppers very crunchy. The strawberry cake dessert has a liquor in it which was sitting in the bottom of the ramekin causing such a strong taste I couldn’t even eat it. Service was fine ES EOY I kept having to ask for more water. Overall I was hoping for so much more.
If you want to try real Valencian paella, this is the place. Great food and amazing wine selection.
We had an amazing first experience at Slate Wine Bar! We were celebrating birthdays and they provided a complimentary bottle of wine! We will definitely be back. They have an extensive wine list and the food was great.
We went to Slate for DC Restaurant Week and opted for the wine pairing. It was fabulous--better than expected. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable in the wines and food which made our experience even better. The food-wine pairings were mainly spot on and led to much conversation about what we were enjoying. We will definitely be back.
Such a beautiful restaurant and the food was delicious!
Had an amazing time at Slate Wine Bar during my visit home to the DMV with exceptional service & delicious food. Wanted to visit this place ever since I heard about it 4 years ago. Of course, I planned my visit during the time when DC’s Acclaimed Winnie The Pooh, I mean, Paella king Chef Danny Lledo was away. Bummer! But, I guess that’s reason enough for a second visit soon! Thanks to the grumpy dude at the bar for giving my little angel a cocktail demo. As many times as she attempted to make it, she succeeded to fail. But we don’t waste alcohol and we drink it anyway 🤘🏼
Friendly wait staff, great wine (rosé), excellent burger.
Great food. Small and intimate restaurant. Did the tasting menu with wine pairings—great value!! One waiter shared the specifics of each wine we requested he pair with each course. Portions a little small for my husband. We were gifted a drink pairing because it was our anniversary and then charged for dessert so the discount was only $2 instead of $20, but the thought was there. Didn’t complain because the service was good.
Update: Slate actually reached out to us because of the confusion. I wish we would have spoken up to give them a chance to rectify the confusion. Amazing customer service!!
The paella is amazing! The wine list is extensive! There is something here for everyone and all of it is delicious. My friends always request that we come back.
Great food! Staff and chef were knowledgeable, passionate, and approachable.
Food was excellent. Service was slow, due in large part to problems in the kitchen (according to our server). When we complained about the long wait for dessert, they deducted the cost.
The wine service and selections were excellent. The service was very cordial and welcoming. It is a good place for friends who want to talk and enjoy the wine. Our group of four never felt rushed. I rate the restaurant with high marks for wine and quiet conversation.
Slate is the best! It’s great for a casual happy hour or a special occasion. Just had an engagement brunch there and the service and food couldn’t have been better! Highly recommend!
We had a great time at Slate. The wine pairings were fun, information packed, and tasty. The food was delicious. The service- friendly and knowledgeable. We will recommend to friends and go back!
Had a wonderful experience, delicious food and great wine. The staff was friendly and attentive. The filet was outstanding, rivaling many great steak houses. A definite must when visiting DC!
We truly adore Slate. We have only ever gone for brunch, which is fairly quiet and low key. The bartenders and manager are very sweet and love to chat with customers. We enjoy going here and will be back!
Good selections of wine from across the world. Food was delicious. Nice hostess and friendly management staff.
We were 3 people , one person did not get what he ordered .
In good récupération they préparé the Wright meal extremely fast and did not charge us for it.
That concludes for a very good experience
Brought 10 people from my office to celebrate year-end event. Danny prepared a wonderful dinner with options for vegetarians and wine pairings with each dish. Event was simply outstanding. Paella is to die for. Wines were great. Even desserts were excellent. Highly recommended.
Cute wine bar, but brunch wasn’t good. Probably would go back just to sit at the bar for wine and apps. Service was slow.
We had a graduation/Mother’s Day brunch and it was fabulous! We had someone with dietary restrictions and they were more than accommodating!
Nicolas salad was excellent. Wine selection is thoughtful and extensive.
Food well prepared and delicious. Varied and interesting wine list. Excellent by the glass wines available with some outstanding choices by the bottle. Staff knowledgeable and owner is very involved and knows his wines.
Great wine selection, knowledgeable bartenders, especially Ellen and Ruben. Sexy little bites at happy hour.
The impressive wine list never disappoints. Knowledgeable staff and wonderful food. The best part of the experience is hanging out with the chef/owner/som, Danny!
