We enjoyed the sashimi-style yellowtail as an appetizer and the black cod as an entree. Both were expertly prepared and very fresh. The eggplant was also excellent, as were the super-meaty spare ribs with a tasty sauce. Less successful was the dumpling wrapped in a banana leaf. It was a smear of gooey rice paste with dried shrimp (which has quite a strong scent) and dried onion. A better description to alert guests that it is not a traditional folded dumpling would be helpful. A small but very nice list of wines by the glass. I usually skip dessert but glad I treated myself to the blueberry crumble and melon pannacotta. I would also suggest having a dedicated receptionist at the podium. We arrived and waited for close to five minutes, as the phone also rang unanswered. A very pleasant woman eventually seated us but we were not the only ones who had to wait at the empty station before being seated. Lastly, be prepared for a fairly significant bill. The food is excellent but it is not inexpensive. A 20 percent service charge is included and that adds up, as well.
We had a going away dinner for my brother. Everyone had an excellent time. The drinks were so good and the food was delicious. The ambiance was so modern and fun. We are definitely coming back!
It was a lovely gathering of ppl who had not seen each other in 18 months so as a venue, Slanted Door's patio seating was a good spot. Was the food memorable? No, it wasn't. Was it good? Average.
Ribs were too smoky; didn’t have that sweet/spicy flavor it did in the past. Manager took it off the bill which was appreciated. Filet was a bit over cooked. Eggplant was bland; it used to have a stronger miso flavor. Chicken clay pot arrived well after all
other entrees were eaten, and it was way too sweet. My wife continues to bemoan the lack of the pork belly entree on your menu. Overall a disappointing experience, especially since we brought friends from out of town on their last day here. We are more likely to go to Vung Tao when we get an urge for Vietnamese as it provides higher value. Thanks for listening to my hopefully helpful feedback.
We loved the Slanted Door and have been enjoying the food and experience since the early days with there first restaurant in SF.
Our waiter could not get everything correct… drinks wrong, food orders starting wit the appetizers were put in incorrectly and the main courses were not right! My wife was crazed by the young waitress who was either overwhelmed or not trained well…
Some dishes were great. Others were a little overcooked, not enough to send back but not what we expected for those prices. Great cocktails.
Food & Service wre both great! The lunch menue is significantly ligher compared to the dinner menu and we could not get anything ordered from the dinner menu. I do not eat dinner and would like to sample the better meals offered during dinner time at lunch.
The lady that waited on use was great and we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered albeit they were not our first choices.
I'm a huge fan of Slanted Door in SF. San Ramon location - not so much. Service is terrible - I don't mean bad in comparison to the SF location. I mean the service is just bad. I was there for an early dinner with my husband around 5 and it was pretty slow. We learned that a 20% tip is automatically added. Perhaps that explains the poor level of service. Food is excellent as expected but probably will not be returning to the San Ramon location.
Excellent food and customer service!
Food was good, perhaps a bit overpriced, Imperial rolls were crispy and tasty,Claypot chicken was flavorful, Shaken beef tender and delicious.Service was attentive at the beginning, but lacking a bit through out the meal, our server even changed towards the end of the meal without the original server letting us know. Due to automatic 20% gratuity or Covid new workers problems? Overall good meal.
Great food, services and people
Food and Service good! Good place with quality food and drinks.
The food was excellent. She eggplant was cut too small, would have preferred larger pieces. The overhead heater came on at the right time.
The only negative was that the table was not cleaned before we sat outside. There was bird dropping on the table. We did not notice it before we sat down. We ended up cleaning it ourselves with a disinfectant wipe I had.
Next time I will eat inside if safe to do so.
We ordered 2 items in the menu plus appetizers since I was hungry I ordered shrimp vermicelli and my friend ordered pho ga chicken noodle soup plus the banh nam for starters but the food was just disappointing especially for the $$$ point all are fine but not what we expect, it’s was an experience lunch but not enough to come back
Plenty of free parking lots if nice shops and some eatery
Outstanding service - attentive without being pushy. The food was excellent.
Great, modern decor and ambience. Excellent fooe and service
Amazing food and service! Brought dogs and sat outside.
Excellent food, great staff, beautiful restaurant.
Love food and am so glad to have this option while the SF location is being renovated. Daikon rice cakes as always are the fabulous favorite.
Food was satisfactory but priced a third higher than comparable fare elsewhere.
Was early, just one other customer, and were restricted to dine outdoors where, with all the kids having fun in the adjacent play area, noise level was very high. Additionally we were constantly pestered by flies.
Awesome food that is full of flavors. The service is superb.
The food was great, the attention and knowledge of the waitress and wine steward were good, except that the restaurant is so noisy that we had trouble hearing and understanding what they said, as well as a difficult time having a conversation with the couple we were eating with. When doing the rating of the restaurant it was impossible when the noisiest we could rate it was “energetic”, when it was in reality, unacceptable.
I would recommend eating outside if you are interested in having any meaningful conversation with your dinner companions.
Most excellent meal. Given the pandemic it has been awhile but it was great to be able to get back to enjoying the Slanted Door and their diverse and interesting cuisine.
We keep returning because the food is excellent, the service is professional and the overall experience is very positive.
The food was over rated. The mandatory 20% service charge stinks as the service was good not great. The prices for the food were priced like the food was exotic and much better Han it really was. The table was not fully clean , neither was the table next to us, prior to being seated. The fork, knife and chopsticks were not clean. I had really wanted to try this place. No need to go back and would advise others it’s seriously over rated.
Very good service, high quality food, sanken beef is a little too salty. Spring roll excellent, clay pot chicken sauce excellent, unfortunately, the jasmine rice is a total fail. Too much water !!!!!!!
Pretty much everything was great. They tend to cook the steaks well done even when asking for medium rare. This was the second time that happened but they were kind enough to make another. Great service and delicious food.
It was fabulous to reconnect with our work team in person (finally) and we loved sharing an amazing lunch on your patio! We ordered several appetizers — the yellowtail, daikon cakes and spring rolls were delicious. We also ordered one of every main entree. Wow! Hard to choose our favorites but the Shaking Beef, Carmelized Shrimp and Clay Pot Chicken were standouts. Only sad we were too full to try the desserts, so we’ll have to return again soon!
Great vibe; excellent service; and wonderful food. Enjoyed eating at the Slanted Door and will dine there again!
Our server was super accommodating and very pleasant. Overall a very nice experience!
We Love slanted door for a night out, or with family or friends, food is so delicious, light and healthy, great cocktails and excellent service every time!
Every bit as good as the original!
Always a dining experience - unique foods that never disappoint‼️
Great place for dinner. Marc V was our waiter and we let him make our dinner choices for us and it was amazing.
We had such a fabulous time I cannot wait to come back the shopping center where the restaurant is located is amazing, I’m looking forward to the next time.
Traveled over an hour to dine at Slanted Door and it’s always worth the time. Amazingly delicious food and great service.
