While Slanted Door is opening this new location in Napa, it all began with an idea to open a Vietnamese crêpe stand or a noodle shop in the Tenderloin neighborhood. Charles Phan searched for a location but was told that there were already too many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. He moved the search to his own neighborhood: the Mission. He quickly found an available space on Valencia Street.

The Slanted Door was born in 1995 with the goal of elevating Vietnamese food to the next level—modern design, sustainable local ingredients, quality teas, and wine pairings. The Slanted Door was quickly recognized and became too small to accommodate the reservation requests. The growing restaurant moved to South of Market in 2002. It was there that the team integrated a craft cocktail program, which was one of the first restaurants in San Francisco to offer craft cocktail menus. The Slanted Door moved again to the San Francisco Ferry Building in 2004.

Perfect in every way. The food was outstanding! Especially the Spring Rolls and Duck - don’t miss them! Ambiance is always lovely, sophisticated, and quiet enough to have good conversations at your table. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Napa.

We love this restaurant, especially in warm weather eating in their lovely tree-shaded patio. The brunch menu has some of our favorite dishes, especially the five-spice chicken vermicelli bowl. For starters, their spring rolls and imperial rolls are perfect, and we order them every time, even at dinner. The wait staff is friendly, attentive and helpful. Four stars!

This was our first visit to this restaurant, and I must say that I will definitely go back. We dined in the outdoor area where the ambiance was beautiful and very quiet. The service was fantastic, matched only by the food. The menu was unique, but everything we had was really over the top. We loved this place and can't wait to return.

This was our second time here. We decided to take our family because my husband and i first experience last year was so great. And again our experience this time is just as great as last year. The food, the wine, the service, the ambiance - all perfect for celebrating Father's Day. I'm so glad I decided to go back again. My family loved it!

Servers were not so attentive - maybe because they already charged the customers 20% service charge (regardless if you’re party of 3) automatically?

The Shaking Beef was not only grossly overpriced, it was dry and should have been served in smaller bites. The huge ice cube served with cocktails does not cool the drink and hides the fact that they are serving a Minuscule serving. Shame on Slanted Door. The appetizers (small plates) were, on the other hand, terrific. For those of us who live here in Napa, we are disappointed that Slanted Door does not up its food and drink. The service was great as was the ambiance.
