Sky Bar Steak & Sushi
Bouncing back from Hurricane Ike, Sky Bar completed their renovations with an edgy warm colorful feel that perfectly compliments their exceptional food and service. The comprehensive menu includes choices ranging from the freshest sushi rolls that constantly push the limits of creativity, two choices of PRIME steaks, to an abundance of options for non-sushi eaters and vegetarians. Watch the seasoned chefs prepare sushi and sashimi at the granite sushi bar.
The kitchen and bathrooms were dirty and the floors of the restaurant stuck to my shoes. The chicken yakatori melted like it wasn’t fresh .
Always a pleasure and the sushi never disappoints.
My fried rice tasted weird and my drink was initially WAY too strong, like three shots in a martini glass essentially, but the waitress/bartender were accommodating and fixed it up for me. I got the bento box A and would have been much happier I think with just a couple sushi rolls. My husband loved the Asian curried seafood gumbo though.
Definitely a decent place to grab sushi on the strand. We didn't have anything we didn't like, everything tasted good, but it wasn't anything outstanding.
Though our server was very nice, the hostess seemed put out that we wanted to sit outside, requiring her to put 2 tables together. The hostess sets the tone for the entire meal, so I would recommend they work on some training here. We did have 2 managers stop by to ask us how everything was, which was nice. Service would have been rated 4 stars if it would not have been for our initial impression with the hostess.
I rated ambiance very good because we sat outside and could people watch and enjoy the cool evening breeze. Inside looked nice, but cramped. However, most places are on the strand.
Value was mid-range. You can get the same quality sushi cheaper elsewhere, but we also understand prices are increased because of the area.
Don't let my 3 stars dissuade you from trying it yourself. I only give 4 stars if something was above par and rarely have I given 5 stars to anyone.
Amazing! The chef is incredibly innovative. She asked us what we liked and created on the spot! We tried the fried alligator special they were running, delicious! The server was attentive without being obnoxious. The experience was so good we went back the following night and sat at the bar. It was fun to watch the chef make roll, after roll, after roll (she was busy!). Overall, great experience and we can’t wait to return.
