I held out on a visit to Skippa until an important milestone came around and my husband's birthday was just the right one. He's tough to impress, holds everything (especially food) to a high standard, and does not like a fuss for this birthday. Also, side note, we will be travelling to Japan in a few months, where he says he's looking more forward to the food than anything else (big statement from an architect). So it was with that in mind that I booked Skippa- an unassuming, small culinary tour de force, in an equally unassuming stretch of Harbord Street. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated along a table by the window which was fashioned from a cross cut of a huge tree trunk- a marvel indeed and an instant inspiration for a conversation. The menu featured a Chef's table option called Trust Skippa- which at $120 per person was a hard to pass up given that it included $47 worth of sushi along with pre and post courses that sounded scrumptious. Each course was presented with the details of the dish, the source from the super friendly, proud and knowledgable staff, and was followed by another meticulously lated item that beat the last one in execution and flavour. We were so ecstatic that we ordered a bottle of wine more than halfway through our meal. And the dessert was just the thoughtful, beautifully executed end to a beautiful journey. The atmosphere was casual and unpretentious with everyone clearly respecting food and the art of making it. It will be hard to beat this experience in Toronto. I'm looking forward to treating myself for my birthday in a couple of months...as unoriginal as the idea may be at this point!

This is one of the most special places in Toronto or elsewhere. The food is impeccably prepared, with precise attention to the smallest details. The staff is warm, genuine and extremely attentive. It’s a place that leaves one feeling nourished, both in gustatory and emotional terms. Each gesture, presentation of food and drink, and interpersonal interaction is so thoughtful, loving and nuanced. I can not recommend this place more highly! If you interested in people who pour their heart, soul and creative spirit into their craft, this is the place to be. I will come here again and again. It leaves one feeling more expansive and realizing what a true love of one’s work can do to make everyone feel welcome and deeply valued. That’s more than just about food— but the food is also divine and surpasses many Michelin star restaurants I have been to across the globe. This place deserves such a standing in the coming years!

Between learning about here all the fish and products used comes from and the added history of other items it made for an awesome experience. I recommend the Omakase as it says on the menu Trust Skippa

An incomprable sushi experience. Anyone who appreciates sushi and the true dining experience that surrounds it; there is no comparison.

I've never been to a restaurant where the service staff has been so attentive. To the point where they kept changing from chop sticks to cutlery depending on the food being served. Our waiter was the best and it was only upon paying did we find out we were his first table ever. Cudos to him. Best of all was the taste and freshness of the food was beyond compare. A restaurant I would certainly recommend to others. Ron

Amazing food and impeccable service but know that if you do (my recommendation) the chef’s preset menu be prepared to spend 2.5 hours at least on dinner. It was okay to alter my night’s schedule but I didn’t know to expect that much time to be spent there.

We all think the soy sauce is too sweet, overpowering the taste of fish. Also ginger is too strong to eat between sushi, it takes long time for the taste of the ginger to go away before trying another sushi. These two items ruined the beautiful sushi. 3 things tasted way too strong than it should be: soy sauce, ginger and edible flowers. A little bit of adjustment on these items and it could be a lot better perhaps. Servers were friendly and accommodating.
