Sir Winston Wine Loft & Restaurant
Has lots of potential.......
Architecture is very interesting
Liked wine options...
Food selection is thoughtful...but execution was only fair
They had changed to a very limited menu for an event downtown without letting us know (called to confirm reservation). There was also a band playing that was good but way too loud for the small space
The food was good, but great service and atmosphere as well.
The food, drink, service and ambiance were all very good. However, the noise level was so loud that we could not hear each other except when the jazz singer took a break. Evidently, they have entertainment one night per week. So, go to Sir Winston but choose the night according to whether you want to talk or be entertained.
Service was slower than expected
The meal was delicious and the waiter was great. We used the valet and it was easy . My only issue was the noise factor. You could hear conversations from across the venue.
I was strongly recommended to visit your restaurant as it is a friends new favorite in WS. 3 friends and I all visited for the first time last Saturday 6/29/19 and we’re all sorely disappointed with the food and service. All 4 entrees got a 1 star rating as the turkey sandwich’s were dry and flavorless, Brussel sprouts were under cooked, salad and soup were watery. Service was extremely inattentive and actually up charged us for extra mayonnaise for our described dry turkey sandwiches. Our mission was not to get a comped meal but to add constructive criticism to the new and growing staff and restaurant. Looking back, a top notch restaurant would have comped the meals without question to avoid this kind of public review. Needless to say we were really disappointed with the whole experience.
Food was ok. Waitress knew nothing about the menu.
Very pretty place, very open and airy. Not sure about the under counter lighting at the bar... Who on earth is that flattering to? But our bartender, CJ, the Scotsman, was wonderful...attentive, charming, knowledgeable and engaging. We opted for dinner in the dining room which was pleasant. Service was very good and the food was very much to our liking. I got the sirloin and frites, cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. One of our party ordered the pork chop and another the hen, both enjoyed their meals. No room for dessert but I've got to add that the house wines are really very nice. My chardonnay was oakie and maybe a little hint of sweet but I must say it was three glasses worth of good!
A must eat experience. If you want an energetic, fun place to eat, this is it. The food is succulent and the ambiance is great.
This was our second time at the Surkamp Winston and we laughed very disappointed after being very excited after our first visit. My trout was dry and mediocre at best.My wife had the pork chop and it was only OK as well. The highbspot was our service, though. Jeff did a great job and salvaged the evening for us.Will probably give it another try but if it is a repeat performance it’ll be our last time.
Great service. Loud ambiance - could use some sound dampening to allow reasonable conversation volume for guests.
Winston-Salem has yet another amazing place to eat downtown. Go if you can. Our experience was first rate!
Very noisy restaurant. Slow service. Minimalistic decor. No ambience at all. $4 charge to make side substitution with entree for a side of equal value. The waitress said it would be $3; however we were charged $4. The sides are $4 if you order them as a side in addition to your entree. Totally unreasonable. This was my second visit and it will definitely be my last.
Great addition to downtown Winston.
Great new spot!
