We attended the weekend small bites tasting menu and were not disappointed. The ambiance was wonderful. Our wait staff were top shelf. And the food is in an ethereal realm no one can challenge.
Mistakes were made but not apologies!
my fish and my wife's quail were over salted and the quail was a bit too greasy. my wife wanted to order another glass of wine but the waiter never checked in for her to do it. finally she did at desert time.
Excellent food, and interesting menu. Waitstaff was very good with our large party, including children, and vegetarian/gluten-free diners. Lighting is a bit dark - need tea lights on the table so food is easier to see. otherwise, have always loved this location, even under the previous management.
Wonderful experience, lovely wait & hostess staff and incredible decor. Love this place. Thank you for helping us celebrate a birthday.
The Saturday chef's menu was outstanding. The food was perfectly prepared and the parings were excellent. The portions were just right. The service and ambience could not have been better. One of the best dining experiences we've ever had in the Bay Area or elsewhere.

A great multicourse meal in beautiful surroundings
We thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner at Sir and Star. Of all the times that we have eaten there, this menu was definitely my favorite.
After checking in with the host, our group of six was shown to a two-top (by the same host). Once seated at a table for 6, we waited a full 30 minutes before being acknowledged by our waiter. There’s more, but I’m not big on writing reviews. All in all, we laughed a lot, so there’s that.
I made online reservations for Valentine’s Day dinner. Although it was mentioned that they had fixed price dinners on Saturdays at a cost of $85 it was not listed that Valentine’s Day, which was a Friday, was to be a fixed price dinner. When we arrived we were told it was. After looking at the menu and not seeing a price the menu was quickly removed from the table. It turns out it was $145 per person. In addition we had to pay extra for store-bought bubbly water, etc. In addition to lack of truth in advertising, this was a particularly busy night with servers and bussers racing around nonstop. At one point I literally saw someone break into a run. Our waiter had to ask us if we received a certain course or not as the charting had gotten mixed up.
The food itself was good and the setting is quite lovely. It was just the service, the sense of underlying frenzy, and the lack of transparency with cost that bothered us. As well as the cost. It was not a good value. I did look at the website after dinner and indeed they did say that it was going to be a fixed price dinner that night at the above price, but that information was not there when the reservation was made 2 or 3 weeks prior. We will probably not return. It does not appear that bay area standards have transferred all that well to the little town of Olema, although prices certainly have!

I might recommend this to someone who is into traditional gamey food. I am not. My H and I ordered the whole fish as that was the only option if we did not want to eat a tiny bird...quail. But a course ahead was fish, so by the time the whole fish came, we were fished out. There wasn't another seafood option, but there was a veggie option. However, for the price we preferred some protein. Anyway, the service was sub par. There were not enough servers and they did not have time to provide good service. When I said something to one of our servers quietly, he admitted that they could use my help. This is not what I would expect for the price. Others in our party enjoyed the food more than we did. Also, I had to wear my coat, it was very cold in there.
Excellent, creative food. Interesting menu. Comfortable interior with lots of plants. Good setting looking out at their landscaped rear yard.
The staff at Sir and Star made our anniversary dinner feel very special. The food is always amazing and we enjoy doing the preset menu. I like coming here for the experience they provide. It’s unusual and awesome.

Finally had an opportunity to go to this restaurant and was not disappointed. We really liked the funky atmosphere; full size trees indoors, taxidermy and antiques provided lots of eye candy. Good wine list an interesting menu that is (very) locally sourced I’m told. Great winter date spot and/or place on a wet rainy night.
This is a great restaurant, but it “tries too hard” on the “odd” decor (dead birds and severed tree limbs, for example). Fireplace creates nice ambiance, but we found several inebriated guests who had taken over the space. Would be much better to let this space be used by guests who are simply waiting for their table to become available. The menu itself could be more expansive and (also) less “odd” (more accessible).
Food was good not excellent. Small portions. Long waits between courses. Wait staff confused and inexperienced, or disinterested. Always wanted to dine here and were fans of the old Manka's. This is not Manka's nor is it a place we will return. Too bad.

We've been fortunate to eat, and stay, at some of the finest spots in the world. None exceed the food @ Sir and Star and the overnight experience @ The Olema Inn. The most romantic combination on planet Earth. Period. Finito. Terminato!

New Years eve
What an amazing New Year meal! It was a fixed price 5 course meal and every course soared. The atmosphere is quickly and magical. Service was outstanding. But the food was absolutely the spotlight.
Sir and Star is an amazing gift. We enjoyed Manka's in Inverness for many years from the time Margaret opened it. We were heartbroken when the lodge burned down but continued to stay at the inn. Sir and Star is a marvelous 2nd act. It has a different yet equally magic aesthetic. The food is memorable. Always a treat!
The service was excellent and we enjoyed very much working with our server. The wine options were carefully selected and we loved the bottle of champagne (from an all female team of producers!) we had. Highlights were the faux gras and the duck; we only regret eating so much before the final course, as we were quite full by that point. A late dinner in the midwinter was such a special way to ring in the new year. Rounding out the night in front of the fire finishing champagne felt cozy, indulgent, and celebratory. Highly recommend for a special meal.
Our first time to dine at Sir and Stars. Did not disappoint. Gastronomically satisfying. The one thing with placing reservations online is we never knew where we will get seated. I would have preferred a table by the window or by the fireplace since this was a special occasion, my husband’s birthday. Next time, I would call and request. Overall, it was almost perfect. :)
Christmas Dinner was superb on all fronts. It was fixed price-worth every penny. The service perfectly timed; it was a 3 hr meal and each item served at an appropriate time. Food was outstanding with portions also perfectly varied. We will return for certain. PS The ambiance was fitting-bringing the outside in. Secondly, the menu card, a keepsake, is written with the most descriptive adjectives - yet absolutely spot on---the cover a piece of artwork. Hope you get to experience. It is more than enjoyable.
Margaret is a genius when it comes to pairing food. The ambience is like no other.

We did the tasting menu which was PERFECT as each course had just the right amount of food, so by the time dessert came along, I could still enjoy it without feeling overfull.
Great atmosphere. One main dish was fantastic the other was just ok. Restaurant was on the cold side but it was a very cold evening.
This place is an experience like no other. The food is absolutely amazing, the staff is wonderful and the design of the restaurant is strange and enchanting. By far our favorite restaurant in Marin.
