Sino Restaurant & Lounge Ratings and Reviews
What happened to the cocktail menu? There were only a couple drinks now and the creative menus from before are gone. The food menu also seems to be more limited. The food was still excellent (awesome salt and pepper crab!), but it seems there have been some serious cutbacks since we were there last. And the place is still so noisy that you have to yell to hear each other.
We usually really like Sino's - but we are usually there during the summer where we can sit outside away from the pointless loud music. I call it 'pointless' because there isn't ever any dancing just a lot of people struggling to have a conversation over the loud music. Lots of energy which is good. On NYE our server was a bit of a challenge. She wasn't aware of the specials; instead of bringing back answers to questions she didn't know she just didn't come back. The $20 corkage fee is extreme considering we had one bottle of wine and ordered plenty of drinks to off set the charge. We felt like we were dealing with desperation to make a buck; when the buck is clearly being made. Might be more creative to have a drink minimum on top of a less significant 'corkage fee'. And when training new wait staff, be sure to have someone on hand with them to get the questions answered. The food was awesome as usual, it was delivered in a timely fashion and the group was happy with the food overall. I would not recommend for a birthday party or anything as it's too loud in there and we've now tried twice. I hope this review will help make some positive changes in the place that we really like. Thanks for listening!
Chinese fusion in vibrant lounge seating. Prefer a quieter table? Just ask to be seated in the back main dining area. They offer outdoor seating, loud lounge seats, less noisy section, and dining between for those that like more music flowing through conversation. Kid friendly! I’ve seen folks part strollers near the ramps.
Valerie waited on us and was sweet, accommodating, and friendly. I recommend ordering the Emperor’s fried rice (chicken, shrimp, bits of bbq pork, edamame, green onion), Kung Pao fried chicken lollipops, lobster shrimp potstickers, Drunken seabass with summer squash (light soy sauce based), calamari and crunchy soft shell crab apps with jalapeño vinaigrette. So good!
Great for a night out with friends, family, a date, etc. Be sure to indicate which area you’d like to sit in.
When we arrived at the restaurant, they told us that they did not have a table reserved for us and seated us in the lounge. Later when we showed our OpenTable reservation, they relented an hour later and setup a table but by then my party was already done with appetizers and was well into the main course so we decided to stay in the lounge.
It would have been good if the restaurant had a table ready for us when we arrived.
We enjoyed the ambience and service , and the menu looked very appetizing. Crab corn soup was tasty ( difficult to go wrong). However, seafood Trio, sea bass and eggplant were all so salty, could not finish ( not my usual habit!). Complaint received an apology, but no incentive to return
Took my girlfriend out for dinner for her birthday. I saw this place and chose it since she wanted Asian food and didn’t really mind the atmosphere. Definitely a cool place to go to. The food was great, although I’m kind of disappointed on the amount of variety they have during lunch vs dinner. Also we order a good amount for just two people and the table was kind of small so that was a downside of seating. Service was excellent.
The atmosphere and lighting definitely complimented each other since it is a lounge so right when you enter, the dance floor is right there. And they’re blasting music so that’s cool. Although the lighting compliments the environment, it still makes it hard to eat in the dark even though there is a candle and a dimly lit light above the table but it still feels dark. Definitely a nice place for either a casual date/dinner or get together with a group a friends.
I must admit that I was extremely skeptical making a reservation for an Asian eatery inside of a mall shopping center, since I’m not from the area.
My date and I thoroughly enjoyed our date. The cocktails were very delicious, the appetizer were amazing.
Our service was excellent, so I wanted to thank you for that.
The service was gracious and very timely. They were absolutely willing to correct the wobbly table :) The Dim Sum flavors were exceptional... with a perfectly crispy Peking Duck! A bit loud for a Sunday night dinner, otherwise it would be perfect for a Saturday date! Definitely deserves a second go!!
Our waitress was very nice. However, I made the reservation a week in advance for my wife's birthday and the original table was squeezed between two other tables. I requested something more private and the hostess was actually rude. I found another table for two, asked a different hostess and she said we could sit there. Our main course came out between our two appetizers so the timing was clearly off. We were not expecting "fine dining" but this was a terrible experience.
25 min after our reservation time, we were still waiting for a seat. Pretty sure a hostess was our server. To be fair, it was probably an 'off' night for them - there was a major event in Santana Row that night. The food was excellent as were the drinks but we probably wont be returning.
We dined at Sino to celebrate my husband's birthday. He loves Chinese food and it had been a while since we had dinner here so I thought we'd go back for his birthday.
Right away we were struck by the incredible loud music from the bar area. We had to ask to be moved as far away from the bar as possible just so we could hear each other.
The food we ordered came out quickly and was nice and hot. We ordered soft shell crab to start then had Imperial fried rice, garlic noodles (delicious), Mandarin beef, honey walnut prawns, and Brussels sprouts. The food was good but not as good as I recalled from previous visits.
Don't go here if you plan to talk to other people at your table. It's a better place for cocktails and bar fare and little conversation.
Sino’s food and service never disappoints. There is a wide variety of California/Chinese fusion style food, and much of it can be prepared gluten-free. It is such a treat to enjoy chow mein, or seafood, or just share a variety of small plates. My only small complaint is that it can be very noisy in there, especially on weekends, but you can ask for a table in the back or for one outside. They have quite a few tables outside, which are not only quieter, but great for people-watching as well.
We arrived and was kindly greeted and seated fast by the hostess. After the great introduction everything begun to shift for the worst.
Our food took a very long time to arrive at our table. Two of the savory dishes (kumquat chicken & Mongolian beef ) arrived first. The two dishes were very rich in flavor, which we didn’t mind; however we ordered the emperor fried rice to ease the rich flavor and that rice dish took close to another 5 min. When the kumquat chicken arrived it was warm/cool, as I described to our waitress - minimal response of, “oh”. Also the chicken was somewhat hard to chew. Not the best customer service & not the best food situation either. The restaurant selection of at Santana Row is great, not sure if I’ll return to Sino for a 4th time.
It was a Friday night so it was busy. Service wasn't the greatest and was a little slow. She seemed busy and didnt check in on us often. I believe that was more towards the beginning when we had appetizers and not yet ordered the entrees yet.
Really good food.
Not too many veg/no egg option.
Quite loud inside. But it's a great place. Not value food but we go there often for lunch-time dim sum. This was the first time I had gone for a 3 couple dinner.
Sino looks amazing but is the worst restaurant I have been to in a long time. It was so loud, no one could talk to each other and I was getting irritated because I was getting a headache. We had a table of 7, all ordered at the same time and 3 people didn't get their food till an hour after everyone else was finished. My drink was horrible and it went around the table for everyone to taste and everyone thought it was horrible. They didn't take it off the bill and wouldn't. If I could give it 0 stars I would. I am so disappointed as I was so looking forward to Dim sum; however, the Dim sum was frozen before hand and tasted freezer burnt. So disappointing.
Worst birthday ever and worst restaurant experience ever.
For the last 5 years my friends and I go to sino's often, we always celebrate birthdays here, and have always enjoyed the food and service.
So I was appalled at the service we received, the food quality and the response from management and other servers when we voiced our complaints. Food orders were messed up, some of my guests never received neither their food or drinks, and some of the staff thought it was funny that we had such a horrible experience. I've never felt so unimportant. I still can't believe that my birthday celebration was that big of a joke to Sino.
A very good restaurant, lot's of space so you are not crowded, great for business with lot's of space to sit 2 to 8 people down in your own area and able to talk and be heard. Food was very, very good and unique. A cool look and feel and plenty of outside seating. Just a very good place.
The food was great. Our server did not time our order properly so we weren't even halfway done with appetizers when the entrees came out. We asked if they could keep the food warm but was told that all the warming lights in the kitchen were being used so we had to take the food. She made it seem like it was our fault for not eating fast enough. We had to send away half eaten appetizers to make space on the table for the entrees. The restaurant did not seem to be at capacity so there should have been no reason for her to make us feel like we needed to hurry up.
