We had dinner here the night before and were excited to eat here for breakfast. Unfortunately it did not live up to the expectations due to the service that was received. We were seated by the hostess who was friendly and welcoming and told our waitress would be over soon. Within two minutes the waitress was at our table and ask "are we ready to order" while standing back about 10 feet from the table. We had barely even had time to look at the menu so we asked for more time. The way she asked made us feel extremely rushed and she didnt even ask if we wanted to start with drinks before she walked away. We were able to flag her back down to ask for water while we looked over the menu. While seated at our table we were asked to put a mask on every time she approached the table. I understand being cautious but this felt extremely over the top and made the experience uncomfortable. She was very short with us and we very much felt like we were being rushed out. Even though there were only about 4 or 5 other occupied tables and she was not the only server. We ordered our food which was delicious but we watched many other tables walk out without attention from here for over 15 min. We felt bad for them, we weren't enjoying ourselves and felt like it was just a weird start to our day. The most common phrase at the table was that we missed Tim, our server from the night before. In my opinion, Tim's service should be your gold standard. May want to have him teach an etiquette and customer service workshop and increase his pay :-)
Dinner here was absolutely amazing. Our server Tim was friendly, warm and welcoming. He was very attentive to our needs and also made the child that was with us feel important too. He doted on her every need. It was very sweet. Would definetly go here for dinner again. Unfortunately cannot say the same for our breakfast service the following morning but thats for a separate review. Dinner and Tim's service were top notch.
Tried to love this restaurant. Beautiful setting! Decent service. But food quality was poor. Pacific NW salmon was overcooked...even on second attempt. They ignored the notation of our anniversary, which was hugely disappointing. Sadly, cannot recommend this establishment. Waited two hours on a reserved room: two hours during which we could have been enjoying our vacation. When asked how long the room would take, we were basically told there was no idea. Clueless when it comes to customer service.
Went for lunch with a friend after having a massage at the spa. My burger was delicious and actually so large, I couldn't eat it all. And I usually do not have a problem eating a full hamburger. So the portion was very generous. And the price for the burger was very fair. My friend had the croissant turkey sandwich and she said hers was delicious at well. We sat by the window and enjoyed the amazing view. The service was very attentive at well. I enjoy coming here and need to do it more often. It is so worth the 45 minute drive.
Always love this place for food and ambiance. During these times, I was very appreciative of the safety measure taken and observed. Gave me the confidence to want to return when the opportunity presents. Our server was outstanding describing her safety measures for both of us to observe when we may be less than 6 feet from each other.
We were staying at the hotel and liked the look of the menu, so we decided to try it for our anniversary dinner. Restaurant was nice enough, food options looked good. Service was not that great as it took us asking for bread 20 minutes after we were told it was coming (right before our food was delivered). My wife's steak, ordered Medium well, came out medium rare and the mashed potatoes & vegetables were cold. They reheated the vegetables and potatoes, but when the stake was re-cooked, still came back medium and very pink. At that point we were just done.
Server Tim was outstanding!!!
Outstanding views of the Columbia River Gorge and windsurfers, all set in a sumptuously elegant setting. The food was extraordinary! Terrific old-world charm throughout the restaurant, hotel, and gardens.
Excellent service and food!
Excellent service. The salmon was fantastic as was the lamb.
Timothy, our server, was very friendly and attentive. He made several great recommendations. He represented Simon’s and the Columbia Gorge Hotel very well. The view was amazing and the entrees were delicious. The desert was not of the same quality as the entrees but I wouldn’t lower the rating just for desert. My wife and I are planning on Simon’s for anniversaries even though it’s two hours from home.
We have always enjoyed voming here for dinner and drinks. The rooms are always very nice and peaceful. We will be back =) everything was amazing as always and our wait staff was amazing. We love Tim and Gabrial.
What a great place.. worth the trip - view and staff outstanding. Surprised not many there- probably COVID scare. Will definitely be back. My Rock Fish and Chips and her Shrimp salad very good- she is a chef in Lake Tahoe area. I find the place struggling with numbers of guests but place was very very nice - well maintained- grounds great and overall a pleasant experience. Planning on a stay someday. Very nostalgic old school elegance as my daughter said.
Very comfortable atmosphere, nice view over looking the Columbia River
An unbeatable location with a $1M view. Good food at a very reasonable price.
Spent our 41st Anniversay dinner with them, they could not have been more attentive
The Valentine's Day dinner experience was great. Nice waiter. The breakfast staff seemed shorthanded, but the food was delicious.
This place has a lot of potential just misses the mark. It’s looking very rundown and the servers were very scattered and not really with it, forgetful and not really attentive in the way you want. We were one of two tables in the whole restaurant. Expected more from $32 brunch did accommodate a non egg eater but had to get the manager involved as there was nothing else to choose from on the menu as reg menu wasn’t available. Food was luke warm at best. Plenty of other places far better. Location is decent but a long drive for us for so so experience as a birthday brunch.
We had Sunday brunch and it was very good. We will go again. Even my 8yr old daughter loved the brunch.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. I took my mother here for her birthday and they worked extra hard to make our dining experience special. They even offered a complimentary birthday dessert upon my request. The ambiance is beautiful and relaxing. Everything from the soft jazz music playing in the background to the clean, classy attire of the white table clothes against the high back maroon chairs. The view and property is breathtaking! Even in the chilly winter weather it is worth the trip into the Columbia River Gorge.
Waiter was very attentive and the food was excellent
Great New Year’s Day brunch — I ate WAY too much food!
The ambiance, staff and delicious food provided a most wonderful experience as we began 2020 with a decadent brunch at the Simon’s Cliff House!
Breakfast was a set menu with entrée options that were decent, but scones/biscuits were cold, hard, and dried out, and cubed cheese had been refrigerated too long and dried out.
Dinner meal was not what we expected; the salmon was tasteless and the riced potatoes (with the chicken entrée) tasted of plastic as if they had been prepared in a microwave pouch.
Fabulous service & food! A winning combination! We are coming back for New Years Brunch!
You would think on Christmas they would have brunch. We arrived at 11 and they were only serving lunch.
Food was cold and blah. Should have gone elsewhere
We came for the High Tea, something they do once a year at the holidays. The view and this property can't be beat. But the tea experience was sub-par. Our tower came in a broken frame that was leaning precariously over. We laughed about it with our server, but honestly, how does that thing even leave the kitchen? The food itself was below average, egg salad, salmon spread, nothing special, and we didn't even realize that the top tier of biscuits, scones, and biscotti was missing butter and who knows what until we saw another service after ours with that on their tower. The final plate of sweets that came out looked like what you would buy at Costco from the frozen section, and tasted like that too.
Come for the view and the grand property. But plan to eat some place else.
We’ve been staying at the Columbia Gorge Hotel every December for 31 consecutive years. While we miss the extensive Christmas decorations they had back in the day, we still love the atmosphere at this grand hotel.
The service in both the hotel and restaurant this year and quality of the food and drinks were excellent! Thanks and see you next December!
Great view of the Columbia Gorge from our table by the window. Live piano music. Be sure to go out onto the patio and look at the dramatic waterfall!
Having never been there, the entire dining experience was memorable. The hotel is well maintained, the staff was attentive and friendly, and the food was excellent. I will definitely be going back.
We've been coming to the hotel for Thanksgiving dinner for years...it was grand when you got a fixed course meal...when the hotel reopened with a buffet the first year was exceptional...since then...not so much!
Love coming here. We had the filet mignon and the salmon. The steak was perfect but my salmon was very dry. Overall we had a great time and the service was top notch.
The hotel needs updating and a thorough cleaning. The food was oversold by server and very overpriced. Noise level was low because there were only a few other diners. However the pianist/singer from the empty lounge came to our table while we were eating and that was slightly uncomfortable
It could be a fine hotel again...they need to put some money and time into the property.
We had an outstanding meal here for my mom's 70th B-day. Prices were surprisingly reasonable for this beautiful setting. Highly recommend!
Excellent meals and service, the view is outstanding.
Beautiful views and great food! I honestly haven't had scallops that good in a long while. We love the Columbia Gorge Hotel for it's history. The grounds are beautiful and it's nice that it has such a good restaurant. Breakfast was just as good.
The decor could use an authenticity refresh time actual 1920s since it was done in the late seventies but the food and service were top notch.
Week night dinner for our anniversary. Nice beautiful view.
Food was fine, not exactly how I ordered it prepared.
Too bad you removed the Fishermans stew from your new menu. I had planned to order it after looking at your menu online.
Our dinner server might use a few tips on timing, my salad came along side my dinner; would of preferred it prior to main meal.
If you're vegan and you add any special requests the restaurant will not contact you if they can't or will not accommodate.
It is what it is. The server was very sweet and polite. Bottom line is that my wife being vegan didn't complain and make an exception in her normal eating choices. They could do better in communicating with their customers if they won't accommodate special requests.
Great views of the river, besutiful grounds, snd food was goid. Not a large menu option.
