Simms Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I have always enjoyed Simms Steakhouse and been several times for special occasions and business events.
On Our most recent visit Friday night for my spouses birthday we were disappointed in the service. We had to wait for drinks and the refills to our water & drink glasses were never received. It was not our servers fault she was extremely busy with several tables. In my opinion they were understaffed.
But when spending well over $100 for a dinner for two the expectations for exceptional service are there.
Hadn't been there in many years, went for Sunday brunch. The food was just ok. When I went to the buffet, there were often two or three of the entree selections empty so I didn't get to try some of the things I wanted to try. The food seemed a bit dried out.
I had the 7-oz. filet (medium) and my wife had the trout. The filet was melt-in-my-mouth tender and seasoned enough to let the flavor of the filet come through. My wife enjoyed her lobster bisque as well. My lettuce wedge salad could have done with a little less bleu cheese dressing but was otherwise crisp and hearty. The side of green beans with onions was good, if not spectacular. I'm not sure how one makes green beans spectacular, anyway. They're just a good accompaniment to steak. The rolls with cinnamon honey butter were a delicious appetizer. Our server, Adam, took good care of us without being obtrusive. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal.
We dine out a lot and know good service We had a reservation and the restaurant was not busy. Despite being a few minutes early it took them an additional 17 minutes to seat us. We asked for a cocktail menu but the server insisted on telling us about their beer menu. We asked for water. After several minutes of inattentiveness of the server, we flagged down another server. It took forever for our drinks to come. We ordered dinner. Again I must emphasize the place was not busy. We had to ask for water numerous times. While we were eating our salads all of a sudden one of the side dishes comes out and the server suggested that it was a computer error. We said fine we will nibble on it until the rest of the food comes out. The Dish was in the middle of the table and after we flagged someone down for water our server took our forks so we couldn’t nibble. We ordered medium steaks. Mine was rare and undercooked. Our baked potato was cold and the butter and cheese would not melt. This should not happen at a place of “fine dinning”. The manager tried to smooth over the situation but it was too late. By the time the correct preparation of the food was completed, the rest of our party had finished eating. I have dined at Simms numerous times over the years and this will be the last time. I cannot articulate what a terrible time I had there.
For many years my wife and I have loved this place and celebrated about every special occasion here. My wife's filet was five stars but the bison special I had was far less than par. The seasoning was so overwhelming that the taste of the actual meat was lost. We will be back but the special was very disappointing. It hurts, really hurts, to write this review.
I was very dishearted with Simms.
Two of us had the New York Strip, it was tuff and most definitely not a prime cut of beef. The price dictated it should have been!
Our order of scalloped potatoes came when the meal was 2/3 done and even though I asked if it would be taken off the bill , it was not.
Our waiter Morgan was awesome and gave good recommendations and the food was amazing. This was my first bone in filet and it did not disappoint. I only wished we weren’t seated right in front of the kitchen entrance as it wasn’t even that busy so we could’ve had a quieter ambiance for our first anniversary but really the food was so great that It didn’t damper the evening
I’ve dined here a few times over the years and they seem like they are going down hill. The view is spectacular and it’s great to take visitors from out of town who have never been to Denver but the service was questionable and seemed insincere. I also did not appreciate the staff trying to clear our table while we were still dining. It made us feel rushed and for a restaurant that is supposed to be in a higher end category they should know it’s considered rude to clear plates when others are still eating. There was no excuse for it whatsoever as they were not busy. There was nothing special at all about the food and my cut of meat was mediocre. I have had better cuts of meat at lesser restaurants in Denver. Overall it feels like they are relying on the view and atmosphere as their draw and from the looks of it definitely don’t seem interested in attracting a varied guest base. I doubt I will be back.
Everything was great. The food was delicious. The service was awesome. The “acknowledged” my birthday with a mini menu printed out with happy birthday printed on it. If they are goi g to a knowledge it at all the least they can do is give a complimentary heap glass of wine or a scoop of ice cream. I found it pretty insulting to just have a mini appetizer menu that said happy birthday (didn’t have a name) on it was pretty tacky.
While the food and service was great. We felt our entire experience was "rushed". We had not even been able to finish our appetizer and drink before the soup and salad came out. Period of time from Dinner made us worried that we could not finish our drinks before our meal came out to order a refresher with dinner. This perspective is in comparison to that of other Steakhouses where you are encouraged to relax and the timing of your meal is more spaced to enjoy a drink and time with others. Beyond this, the food and drinks were excellent and the skyline view from the dining room and bar area is spectacular!
Inattentive service began with hostesses laughing at something for two minutes before we were taken to our table. Requested table by window and there wasn’t one reserved for us nor was there an acknowledgement of our request not being fulfilled. Waited 20 my minutes for bread which came after I re requested it. Which was 3 minutes before our meals came out. Food was great!
Server continually trying to get us to order more food! Not pleasant experience when we knew what we wanted and she kept asking more and more..Got annoying. I seem to assume that if we wanted appetizers or dessert we would have requested, but having to say 'no' to 6 different appetizer items, sides and desserts was not too pleasant. Too hard of a sell. However, she had a great attitude and personality...Food was so, so, didn't warrant the price...
I have to say that what I did not like about this restaurant the most is that it's outdated. The building the inside just seems that it needs to be updated. Next I would say that The prices did not reflect the the quality of the food and service. We had never been there before and somebody gave us a gift card so we thought we would try it out. I'm not saying that the food was bad but I'm saying that the food was very expensive and did not reflect what we paid for it. For steakhouse they only had four options of any kind of steak. I think there are other steak houses that are much more affordable and will give you just as good a quality of food.
My wife & I went to celebrate our anniversary. We had been to Simms Steakhouse before. Amazing view of the Denver skyline! Food & service was excellent. Waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and wine list. It is very expensive, so plan on dropping some serious cash, but the food is excellent as are the portions!
Dinner was amazing! The lobster bisque is really, really delicious. Great wine selection. We were seated at the windows with a view of downtown and watched the sunset. Absolutely beautiful! Service was a little slow to start, but I think the server was trying to chill our wine. After that, service was great!
Expensive but well worth it! one of the best steaks I've ever had, perfect medium rare, so unbelievably tender, and amazingly flavorful. Fantastic crab cakes as well. The servers are like ninjas! every time you need something it's there. It's like they read minds and magically produce whatever you were thinking about. Having been a server for many years I am very critical of service, one of my major pet peeves is when the salad comes before the appetizer is finished. or when the meal comes before the salad is finished. the timing was perfect. this was my third dinner at Simms and I couldn't be happier with the experience. On a side note Simms also has one of the best brunches I've ever seen.
We requested to be seated in a booth, which unbeknownst to us was in a part of the dining room that wasn't open for dining. Without our knowledge, they opened up the area, and our server Alaric volunteered to serve our table. We had a wonderful dining experience and fabulous evening! I can wholeheartedly recommend Simms Steakhouse!
