Silver - Cathedral Commons
Sorry to say ... the food is great but the service is just not there. Second time that we've experienced slow/poor service.
Interesting and tasteful menu. We would go again.
Definitely unexpected deliciousness! Would have never thought I’d get food like that, from the outside of it. Very good food, and the creme brûlée was so silky!! Not too rich, and perfect for the season! Went for DC Restaurant Week, lunch special! Happy I did.. celebrated my birthday alone, they made me feel welcomed!
Food as usual here was excellent in both taste and presentation. Reservations service was responsive in accommodating our request for a quieter table. Food service, however, was poor at best: took our waiter about 15 minutes to show even with a glass of water. He then disappeared. Once order finally taken kitchen service delivered in reasonable time with hot plates of steaming food. When meal finished, waiter again disappeared. The place was not so busy that he was overloaded.
Great friendly service. Good food selection for kids and adults.
Nice gem in the neighborhood. Not too loud so able have a conversation.
Silver at Cathedral Commons is always terrific. It’s a fun, convenient place to meet (with two-hour parking validated), and the food is creative in conception and just plain delicious. As are the milkshakes. We had a great table (a big booth) and wonderful server. My friends and I will be returning soon!
Excellent for lunch or brunch! Delicious and varied choices
We enjoyed the food...the server told us that what was on the menu was wrong as to whether there we fries included with the salmon slider. I have never encountered a place not honoring what its menu said and charging separately for something that is listed under sandwiches as included. On a slow night we had slow service, but overall, it was a decent meal.
Good quick place to meet and eat
Love this place and go frequently. Great food variety and appetizing dishes. Quality control could be improved, particularly between the two Silver restaurants. Never sure what I'm getting. Prices can't be beat!
Sweet little upgrade by Silver Diner. Great service, expansive menu, yummy and well-prepared food. Wonderful to sit outside on a nice day.
Silver Diner has many good choices for all tastes and preferences. The entree salad with salmon was delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly which is always the most important attribute. Our guest was delayed and the staff was very understanding and patient about that. It is good for brunches, lunches and probably dinner although I have never had dinner. Everyone was very attentive and welcoming.
I met a colleague for a business lunch, and we had an excellent experience. We had fantastic service, the food was great — easy to eat while conversing — and the restaurant was quiet enough for us to talk without being overheard by everyone else around us.
The waiter was rude and kicked us out because she said she wanted to go home.
The food and our waitress were great as usual.
I have been to Silver many times now and have never been disappointed. The menu is interesting and creative, the outdoor space is great (and pet friendly!), the service is very pleasant and efficient. It's a great add to the Woodley/Cleveland Park neighborhood. And I really do appreciate the Thursday summer evening Pups on the Patio event!
Food is always excellent! Service was great! Will be back
Were greeted by a lovely lady at the hostess stand and gave us a quiet booth and had a awesome server name Connor as our waiter
Ask for Connor he’s a great
I like the Bethesda Silver much better. But, if in the Cathedral area, it’s okay.
We had the worst server ever. He never checked in on us. The idea of bringing a coffee pot for refills was a foreign concept to the guy. Also the Food and coffee took forever and the restaurant was slow. The food was good and the prices were right but I’ll leave if I have the same server again.
Celebrating a friend’s retirement
The apple fritters were amazing! As some reviews said, service is slow and food came out cool. Hope they can continue improving because the menu and ambiance are great.
i appreciate their using local fresh ingredients in a healthy manner
We went for Fathers’ Day brunch and were very impressed. I had the Power breakfast- egg white scramble, and it was one of the best I have had in a long time. Just well balanced with the right amount of eggs, vegetables and goat cheese. Everyone else was equally impressed. Definitely would recommend this restaurant.
We enjoyed sitting outside for brunch on Father's Day Sunday. However, the service was uneven and most of the food came out cold. My husband had to send his steak back twice to be heated to the proper temperature. They have a nice menu and the drinks are good but I don't know if I would rush back.
always an excellent experience! top of the let’s eat here list when family & friends are visiting DC.
Quick efficient seating and good natured wait staff.
Proper order and swift .Served with a smile.
Would definitely return.
Also makes a good Martini.
You would have to drag me back here. The food was awful and the kitchen lost our dinner ticket, resulting in our waiting over an hour for our dinner. Restaurant comped our desserts to appease. I will say, one diner enjoyed her scallops even though she had to send them back once because she had requested no salt and the accompanying vegetables were covered in salt. My fried chicken on the other hand, which was brined in pickle juice, tasted way too picklely and it too was over salted. Could have been just a bad night for the kitchen, but I don’t care to return to find out.
Solid diner food, locally sourced.
Great food and great libations. The service was good except they were training a new bartender and the drinks took awhile to come to the table.
First time at this Silver, which is fairly new. Met a friend for lunch, and was annoyed by a little mix-up caused by the hostess. I arrived a few minutes late, was told I was the first one there, and seated at a table. After waiting 10 more minutes, I finally stood up to see if perhaps my friend was sitting elsewhere -- and she was! No real apologies from the hostess's desk! An offer for something complimentary might have been nice, considering that both my friend & I were seated separately within minutes of each other, and both of us gave my name on the reservation. Otherwise, our meals were fine, the wait staff was attentive, the place was nice.
nice neighborhood place, full of families at lunch, friendly service,, and good food. The chicken piccata was delicious - cauliflower mash not so great (and looked worse), but sautéed spinach fine.
Food was perfect the scallops were wonderful even though the server was new she was excellent
We have been to Silver many times and the service is always slow and has never improved. After a reasonable apology from the server about the slowness of the service, it took almost 5 minutes to process and return my credit card.
Our drinks took way too long - and then they came with a mistake. The floor manager gave us a discount to make up for this- which was fair, but I would rather have had better service from the start.
I love the options for healthy and tasty food, so maybe better trained bartenders would be useful?
I am a neighborhood person, so I do hope you correct this because I hope to come back a lot.
Second visit...food just as good the second time. We are vegan/vegetarian and have never been disappointed in Silver's (or Silver Diner's) creative veg options.
I love Silver and our experience was the usual.. great food and drinks. My only complaint was that I felt our server, who was very nice, was overwhelmed by the number of tables and people he was serving. I felt badly for him.. It took 30 minutes to give our drink order ..and then another 20 for the food order. The hostess ended up taking both because the waiter was so crazed.. Yikes..
It might be a good idea to put your more experienced wait staff where the restaurant is the busiest..and it was definitely the patio area on Monday night.
Thanks for the great food and drinks.
Had Sunday brunch here (our first visit). Good varied menu, quick service, food was good. We’ll be back. Nice big patio.
Waitress was clearly new at the job and inexperienced. She should have trailed someone for longer before she waitered on her own. Drinks took way too long for the amount of people in the place, which wasn’t many; they appeared to be short on staff. And the bartender gave me the lousiest pour ever of bourbon. Unfortunately the service soured us on the experience.
Capellini with veg sausage was good. The cauliflower sandwich was not as advertised in the picture from direct mail piece. Too mushy. That needs some work. Fries were tasty.
