Need to book at 7:00 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
The tasting menu was amazing. We sat at the counter by the open kitchen, which was a fun experience. Staff and service were excellent. Yakitori and grilled prawns were standouts.
The food was so delicious, the omakase just perfect, everything was so great, a must for Japanese food lovers. Definitely a wonderful experience. Thanks Shuraku
Tip notch Japanese tasting menu
The food was overpriced for what it was. And everything was too salty. My previous two times there were much better
Always a pleasure.
I love Shuraku it’s super delicious every time I go. Every course of their tasting menu is intentional and purposeful and yummy.
nice and friendly, high-end home-style food, good for talking
Great sitting at the kitchen bar
My favorite place to eat with friends.
Outstanding, as always! Chef Joe is really an artist; you can taste the passion in each dish.
Fabulous Japanese cuisine
fabulous careful service
Feels like in the heart of Tokyo
Great for 4 persons diner
Came with a discerning friend who needed to watch what she ate. Ended up ordering some new dishes — delicately cooked shrimp, nicely seasoned beef, and in celebration of spring crisply succulent asparagus. Run don’t walk to this neighborhood treasure. Quiet and cosy to boot on a Friday. I’ll be back.
Everything great - food, service, hospitality.
Excellent food and ambiance. I will definitely
recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Food delicious. Chef accommodating, friendly and charming. Dietary restrictions taken seriously. Ambience tasteful. Loved it!
nice ambiance and great food. As a Japanese, hope they have more seasonal sashimi menu though...and apetizer size (like ankimo) was very small.
We saw Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, and ate like kings. Great value for the quality and preparation. Love this place now, and I don't often rate 5*s.
Will definitely go back, but probably will not do the Omakase again.
They should offer the Omakase with other options.
The chefs and staff were very courteous and made us feel welcomed. The Autumn 2018 tasting menu was to die for and watching the chefs cook in front of you was a real treat. A great place to take on a date if you want an affordable tasting menu.
Amazing food, experience and service. Cannot recommend enough!
Our dinner here was absolutely phenomenal!! Both the food, and the highball cocktails we ordered. We sat at the chefs counter with a view of the kitchen which also made for great ambiance. Service was impeccable and the chefs interact with guests giving a cozy feel. While known for their grilled dishes (we did some yakitori and miso salmon, and veges), we were equally impressed with other items as well like the homemade tofu, panko-crusted ribeye, and cold noodles. But Don’t miss the craft cocktails... there were two highballs with Japanese Shochu that took us by surprise (green tea, and cherry). Both Absolutely delicious. We each had 3!!! Paired so well with our food.
It was all great except when our server advised us to order more. We initially felt comfortable with what we ordered but the server was pushing us to order more, and we ended up taking home quite a bit.
Great addition to west village - authentic Japanese with high quality food offering. A bit pricey and portions a little small particularly in the higher price point dishes. All was delicious nevertheless!
I enjoyed this place very much. Very elegantly designed space with quiet but cozy environment. Food is amazing with great quality of ingredients and excellent seasoning. All the staff are very kind and helpful. I will definitely come again and will recommend Shuraku to my friends.
This is a great restaurant. We have been there three times in the past month and it is always excellent. Everyone is very friendly and the food is excellent!
Absolutely fantastic restaurant. It’s become one of our faves. A real neighbourhood gem!
This is the best Japanese restaurant in New York right now. We had a great dinner seated at the bar at the kitchen. Everything that came out of the kitchen was excellent. The service is extremely attentive and educational. We enjoyed Shochu (basically Japanese vodka) for the first time. Among the highlights of dinner was a little deep-fried red crab that had anmzing flavors.
This place is a foodies Asian paradise - true expertise in Japanese grilling is demonstrated throughout the chefs menu. Loved every minute of this meal.
Went there on a Saturday night, and we arrived a bit late due to heavy traffic, but they were very accommodating, so plus there. We decided to get the omakase, and first course was delicious homemade tofu. That was followed by beef/uni sushi. The quality of the beef and uni were good, but all I could taste was the seaweed. I like the concept, but needs tweaking. There was another dish with udon, and it was too salty.
His yakitori is on point though. All three sticks were Delicious! All in all, it was a good dining experience. I think a few things need to be tightened up a bit, in terms of execution and flavor, and it would be very good. We did enjoy the meal.
A great little gem! Excellent food
The service staff was quite pushy; kept asking us ordering additional stuff...
I can't say enough good things about this gem- We've been there several times and it's a big favorite
The place is a gem. The food and service are 5-star! Chef Joe and his staff are exceptional. The Tofu, Ohitashi, Karage, Yakitori, Yaki Onigiri were sublime! Do not miss this place, it is very special.
Not sure why, but didn’t go in with super high expectations. But guess what? Expectations shattered. So much better than we hoped! Highly recommend.
We enjoyed or experience at Shuraku. L
The food was good however, having dined at many high end japanese establishments, I would say that this omakase should be priced at 60-80/person rather than $120/pp. Furthermore the OpenTable app says the omakase is $100/pp so OpenTable should make sure that restaurants update their menus as they can be misleading.
Lastly, we were asked upon our reservation, whether this was a special occasion and I indicated it was a birthday and yet the restaurant did not do anything special or even acknowledge the birthday in any way shape or form which was disappointing.
Its our second visit with four dining. Sitting at the counter to view the chef and his team.
The seating is quite good, we don't ache in the chairs. The selection of small plates is
outstanding for the grilled offerings of duck, steak, chicken and fish. Our selection always
have the peas steamed with earthy tomes. The plates arrive with grated green horseradish
that is warm from the chef's grater. It's just the right tempo to enjoy a beer with friends
and taste all the plates on offer.
