About Shun Lee West
Conveniently located across from Lincoln Center and a startling revelation in shiny black lacquer, Shun Lee exudes Asian chic with grand authority.
For haute Chinese cuisine, it’s among New York City’s best. Regional offerings include crispy Grand Marnier prawns with honey walnuts (Canton), braised sea bass in hot bean sauce (Hunan) and shredded beef with leeks and hot peppers (Szechwan). Specialties include beggar’s chicken baked in lotus leaves and clay (requires one day’s notice), Hunan tripe, sweetbreads with black mushrooms and of course, Beijing Duck.

Shun Lee West Ratings and Reviews
Not nearly as good as it used to be. Even though we always thought Shun Lee was a little over priced, the food & atmoshere compensated. Not any more. We had to ask the waiter (who was not very nice) for the restaurant week menu, and then he brought only one for 4 people. It was very unimpressive; clearly sub par food choices. In contrast, we had eaten at a number of "fine" restaurants during restaurant week and had been really happy with the menus & the service. I don't think we will be going to Shun Lee again, too bad.
Had a Restaurant Week meal. Seems to me that Restaurant Week menus are almost never as good as the restaurant's ordinary menu. Felt that way again at Shun Lee West. Nothing to object to, nothing to rave about, although the service was deft, as always. At Shun Lee West, you pay Lincoln Center prices for food that's no better than what's on your plate at many Chinatown options, but Shun Lee's presentation, service, decor and proximity to Lincoln Center are all pluses that help justify the end-of-the-meal pinch.
It was our first time and also the last one. Over priced for what it is, even for the fix price menu.
The service was fair, the food ok but nothing special and I guess we were lucky because the table next to us left without touching their entree.
Try your luck somewhere else..so much better options in the neighborhood
We were there during Restaurant Week and ordered from that menu. I thought the portions would be smaller or something but - Ha! was I wrong! The sizzling rice cake shrimp soup was superb and so was the rest of the meal. If Restaurant Week is to entice people to try new restaurants, it works! We'll be going back for sure.
Traditional -- and unsurprising -- Cantonese cooking (mostly), nicely prepared and attractively served with a bit of haute pretension. The food tastes very good, but the experience is a bit like eating takeout from Chinatown extravagantly presented in a romantically lit, sleekly modern dining room. If that's the experience you want, Shun Lee supplies it deftly.
This restaurant is an Upper West Side fixture that is feeling its age. Service is brusque and hurried -- the food is plunked down quite unceremoniously and the waitstaff just seems to wish you gone. Normally I'm not particularly a diva about this sort of thing, but when you're paying over $30 for an entree, just a little gentility would be nice. The food is okay-- neither good nor bad. The location is what's key -- just across the street from Lincoln Center, I suppose they really don't have to try at all to attract patrons.
The food was really outstanding and the service most outstanding. We told our waiter that we were in a bit of a hurry since we had tickets for the theater, and I have never had my dinner served so quickly and in a perfect manner. Our waiter was so attentive! And the food was truly amazing!
We had been invited to this restaurant a few days earlier and that first experience was so great that we wanted to return before ending our stay in N.Y. Both times were absolutely wonderful!
Food was very good with a wide range of choices. For the price of meals would of expected better service... For instance whenever they poured wine they ended up spilling on the table or on the food whic isn't ideal! But all in all was good and would return.
