About Shun Lee West
Conveniently located across from Lincoln Center and a startling revelation in shiny black lacquer, Shun Lee exudes Asian chic with grand authority.
For haute Chinese cuisine, it’s among New York City’s best. Regional offerings include crispy Grand Marnier prawns with honey walnuts (Canton), braised sea bass in hot bean sauce (Hunan) and shredded beef with leeks and hot peppers (Szechwan). Specialties include beggar’s chicken baked in lotus leaves and clay (requires one day’s notice), Hunan tripe, sweetbreads with black mushrooms and of course, Beijing Duck.

Shun Lee West Ratings and Reviews
Past its prime and overpriced for what it is. Food is little better / more creative than standard take-out, service is rushed (pushing drinks and check even more than what’s typical in Manhattan), transactional and with several misses (e.g., completely forgot starters, then tried to push mains that had obviously been held and were soggy and semi-warm).
Shun Lee West never disappoints. We have been coming here for years and is a family institution. The peking duck was sublime! We had two seniors in our party and the wait staff couldn’t have been more gracious and attentive. There were others with dietary restrictions and there was a broad enough selection that no one left the table “hangry”!
We have loved and gone to Shun Lee for a very long time pre-ballet. The food is always excellent and there is a sense of ceremony about the whole experience. The only issue we experienced this past visit was related to space - we so incredibly crunched between another table, chairs sticking out at perpendicular angles, and wait staff that it made the experience less enjoyable. We know how popular and crowded it can be; however, this was more problematic and therefore less enjoyable than previous experiences.
We have all our family celebratory dinners here. Love the chando chicken, peking duck, steamed sea bass in ginger, and tried for the first time ants climbing on a tree, which is wonderful. Lovely staff. Ask for a booth. Love this place, Yes it's expensive, but so memorable.
Went to Shun Lee for dinner and drinks pre 7:30 Lincoln Center performance. We were warmly greeted at the door and the waiters are friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is filled with interesting looking Chinese dishes. Unfortunately the two main dishes we ordered were flavorful but detracted from the overall dining experience.
Shun Lee is consistently great! The food is excellent and the servers make a good effort to make sure you have a good meal with any extras you want at a timely speed. Even though the dragons in the sky have been around longer than I've been alive, I like them and they add a bit of whimsy to the otherwise dark joint.
