We have all our family celebratory dinners here. Love the chando chicken, peking duck, steamed sea bass in ginger, and tried for the first time ants climbing on a tree, which is wonderful. Lovely staff. Ask for a booth. Love this place, Yes it's expensive, but so memorable.

We had great "American" Chinese food. Very convenient to Lincoln Center. Busy restaurant, but efficient service. Reservations are a must.

maybe because this restaurant has previously always been outstanding, I was a bit disappointed that it was only very good this time. food was just missing a little oomph.

Went to Shun Lee for dinner and drinks pre 7:30 Lincoln Center performance. We were warmly greeted at the door and the waiters are friendly and knowledgeable. The menu is filled with interesting looking Chinese dishes. Unfortunately the two main dishes we ordered were flavorful but detracted from the overall dining experience.

Shun Lee is consistently great! The food is excellent and the servers make a good effort to make sure you have a good meal with any extras you want at a timely speed. Even though the dragons in the sky have been around longer than I've been alive, I like them and they add a bit of whimsy to the otherwise dark joint.

Shun Lee is perfect for pre- or post-Lincoln Center activities. The prix fixe lunch menu is especially appealing (literally and figuratively). The restaurant has been around forever, but it's still a reliable choice.

Very reliable and consistently good; we asked for a dish not specified in the menu, and they made it as requested. What may have been innovative once is now traditional, but it's actually comforting to still have the Shun Lee menu and for it to be well executed.

They have first-rate ingredients and excellent preparation. Best Beijing duck I've ever had - have it every time I go. OK, it's not inexpensive and some people complain about that because, perhaps, they are accustomed to cheaper Chinese food. I think you get what pay for and I think It's worth every penny.

We had a wonderful time and a wonderful meal! We had a variety of dumplings, fried rice, prawns, lemon chicken, crispy beef and the misleading named ants on a log. The cocktails were good, the service was very friendly and great. We'll be back!

While dining at this beautifully decorated restaurant, I found myself extremely happy with the service I was provided. They took me to my table while I waited on my guest and I was allowed to order before they arrived as I was under a time constraint. The drink I had was a burst of new flavors different from the average mojito. My water glass drink never ran dry. My pescatarian appetizer and entree were delightful. However my guest received a meal that was quite average. They don’t just serve plain fried rice as a choice on the side but a whole dish of it in which they charge a full meals price. My guest was quite unsatisfied with the overall taste. Though they charge almost five times the price, the flavors were identical to your local Chinese take out in his fried beef dish. The menu also seems to have a plethora of options that I think should be simplified. For such a price, If the meal is not five stars, it shouldn’t be on the menu.

Always a classic, seemed a bit threadbare. Service a little relaxed, but good, plentiful food for an informal evening. Three appetizers and three entrees plenty for four people.

This is such a grand old place that it seems wrong not to give it higher grades than I have. The decor is a classic, even though faded, and so I have given the ambiance five stars. Three stars for everything else. The service is efficient at the outset, but, as I have experienced often when I have eaten there, it is hard to get a waiter's attention at the end of a meal. The food can't compete with numerous other Chinese restaurants in town, and it is often lukewarm and not as spicy as advertised; it is also a bit expensive for the quality. But Shun Lee West is less than five minutes from Lincoln Center; that and the impressive faded gentility of the place make it worth a visit. And I will return.

I've been going to Shun Lee for years and it's always been great. However, this time there was a chicken bone in my Lo Mein. When we showed them they apologized and the manager came over and did the same. However when we got the bill the lo mein was still on there. We had to ask them to take it off the bill (it was still on there when we got the bill) which is inappropriate given a chicken bone, which could have killed somebody, in the Lo Mein. It was actually attached to the piece of chicken, there could've been no question that came from the kitchen.

Striking, elegant decor. Food of mixed quality. Eggplant Szechuan was flavorful. But Buddha's Delight was disappointingly flavorless. Steep markup on wines. On the whole, not worth the almost $200 for three people.

Excellent, authentic Chinese cuisine. The table next to us was obnoxiously loud which made it difficult for our business lunch.

The food was mediocre and expensive. We didn't like our table (in a blast of air from the front door) but they "couldn't" give us another table - despite the fact that the restaurant remained half empty. They didn't have a favorite dish of mine, vegetable pie. They also didn't have cappuccino, espresso, regular or decaf (I think they said the machine was broken). It is theoretically an upscale restaurant, and the prices are certainly upscale. These things shouldn't happen. I should add that our waiter was very pleasant and tried to be accomodating.

Shun Lee West has been a part of my life for about 40 years! It is always a fine dining experience and sometimes sublime - the most recent meal was of a very high quality and everyone in my party was very happy to experience this unique restaurant and its many great dishes.
John and Henry have also come to be very friendly and always make sure that me and my guests are taken good care of. I appreciate them too.
The wait staff is well trained and efficient and the meal always proceeds smoothly and in a timely fashion.

Since it was sold, this is a shadow of its former self. Dumplings were hard and overcooked. Main courses were average in flavor. Service was robotic. Despite ordering two bottles of wine kept far away from the table, waiters did not stop by to refill glasses.

Used to be a favorite. No more. Will not go back.

The day after we had dinner, this time, the health department closed them down for a day or two. Hmmm. We've been coming for years and the front of the house has always been fine. We like their dumplings and other things and the way they share a few things for us. That said, I hear they are open again. Could they have cured the problems so quickly?

Been a customer for over 25 years. It remains authentic, and nicely updated Chinese classics in great dramatic setting. Long-time staff including managers and servers make it a friendly, congenial and comfortable place for a fine meal.

Pre-theater group. Ordered four different meat, vegetable and rice dishes. The food is bland, greasy, similar to what you could get at any bad US "Chinese" takeout place, but for more than twice the price. I've had infinitely better Chinese food in several small towns in Central NY, let alone Chinatown. The wines are reasonable. The staff is attentive, polite and efficient, and the space is attractive, though there was a duct-tape repair on my booth seat. It's very loud. The location and speed of service pre-Lincoln Center is good, but the food quality will keep me away next time.

The maitre d' was a bit gruff - then funny - as we arrived. The waiters assigned to our table were all terrific. The Beijing duck was a bit disappointing - very dry duck meat, but great crispy skin. The crabmeat with eggwhites was very delicate. Surprised that the restaurant fills your dinner plate after being so used to family style Asian dining. The mango Cantonese pudding was the perfect ending. The ambiance is terrific with the many golden dragons guarding the walls! Would return happily!

We have been Shun Lee regulars since 1982. Most of the time our overall review has been positive. In the last two occasions food was not very good and drinks tasted as these had been waiting to be delivered for a while, judging by the degree of melting of the ice.
