The lemon chicken was dry and tough.
Sweet & sour pork was good.
Food was outstanding. Service lacking. Ordered one duck egg roll to split and they brought two. Delicious but I asked when they brought them if that was one order and they said yes. We weren’t rushed but no one came over and checked on us either.
That said, I would come back again, as the great food negated the average service.
Love the traditional Chinese food and quiet atmosphere
Quick Sunday night supper after the show at an iconic Chinese eatery.
We enjoyed it and would surely consider it again when we are in the neighborhood.
This was our 2nd visit to Shun Lee West and we are already planning our next. From the moment we entered, the staff was warm & inviting. The service was excellent and the food was wonderful. Every dish we ordered was perfectly prepared and delicious. Highly recommend Shun Lee West.
Very good food. They seated us quickly and the food came out quickly.
Subpar Chinese food at NYC prices.
Wonderful place for a group to order up multiple dishes and put them on the lazy susan in the middle of the table and have at it! Everything was fresh, plentiful and tasty. The steamed shrimp with vegetables was a great choice if following Weight Watcher guidelines.
We were seated right away for our reservation and the food came out quickly. As always it was very tasty and we were treated right . It just took us awhile to get the check - and we had to make a show.
Our soup dumplings were barely warm when they were served. We complained, and the waiter took them away, but brusquely and with no apology. The replacements were hot, as they should be served. When our main dishes came, one was not what we’d ordered, and my husband had even pointed to the correct dish on the menu when we were ordering. Again, no apology for the error. They offered to bring the correct dish, but with the delay from the not-hot appetizer, we didn’t have time for another wait before a concert at Lincoln Center, so we ate what had been brought. Ultimately, the food was just average and very pricey for just average Chinese food.
The shrimp with scallions in garlic sauce was excellent. So was the wonton soup and the spring roll. My husband felt the hot and sour soup was not as good. The delicious mousse soufle with chocolate we had for dessert was out of this world.
I've been here many times over the years and I will keep coming back. Always positive. I do want to mention that this particular time during a business lunch I asked if the Mapo Tofu could be extra spicy and they obliged, adding it in the dish and even providing extra hot oil on the side. Many thanks!
We always find the food here superior, and there are a wide variety available.
Food is tasty but soooo expensive for Chinese food. Never can get anything hot (temperature-wise) to my liklng. Serves a great martini and wine list not outrageously expensive
One if my favorite restaurants in UWS. Service is second to none and ambiance is spectacular. Will come back as often as my budget will allow.
We have been coming to Shun Lee West since at least 1978. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here in 1980. This evening was to celebrate my wife's birthday with two of our daughters. I don't eat shellfish or pork; one of my daughters is vegan who sometimes eats fish; and all of us were observing Pesach. The menu is broad enough and interesting enough to accomodate us all (although we skipped the pancakes with the beijing duck). Although everything was good, I strongly recommend the sea bass. Unfortunately we were seated in the corner, right next to a serving station with a computer, which detracted from the ambience. The servers were very helpful in getting us out in time for the Opera. Of course we'll be back for the next Opera.
Both food and service were outstanding. We love the place and have found the food to be largely unchanged for a number of years, but possibly a bit more expensive than the last time we were there. Including tax and a generous tip, the bill was about $70 a head for 4.
Classic Chinese restaurant so close to Lincoln Center. We love Chinese, but we picked it for its great location. Service and food did not disappoint! A bit pricey, but will definitely return! Portions quite large, so sharing entrees is recommended. Pretty sure the Sauvignon Blanc I ordered was a Chardonnay, but no biggie. I recommend!
Wonderful food, right sized portions, and they made sharing easy. Highly recommended.
I have been going to this restaurant for over 3 decades but was truly disappointed by the meal on this occasion as well as the patchy service.
Seated promptly and the service was perfunctory. Food was mediocre with little flavor but since I’m a vegetarian it is possible this only applies to what I had—the vegetable spring roll and Buddha’s Delight.
Shun Lee has its restaurant and right next door and connected sharing the bathrooms, their less formal, dim sum cafe. Both are considered upscale from China Town, but still not so much that you cant just come as you are.
Great vegan and vegetarian options as well as the classic, I want to say Cantonese cuisine, including Peking Duck, Dim Sum and a host of both familiar and signature dishes.
Service is friendly especially at the door and the ambiance is quite attractive, with that giant golden glowing dragon that snakes around the room up on the ceiling.
This place has really gone down hill. What used to be go to place on the upper west side now has barely edible food.
Food and service were exceptional. Our waiter was friendly, engaging and entertaining. Highly recommend.
An overall awesome experience!! I have never been disappointed!
Food was good but not exceptional. We had the Peking Duck and liked it. The service was fast and accurate but sort of rush. The seats on the boths are small but the ambience is interesting, you do feel like you are in China.
Great food and service.
Always the best!
Very nice place and service!
The server was incredible. Made many adjustments for me due to my allergies. The food is always great when I go there.
Shun Lee was great...as always. I have probably been there more than 50 times over the last 20 years, and the food is reliably excellent.
First time for pre-opera dinner. enjoyed it very much. Great food, atmosphere, service prices very fair.
I love Shun Lee's Lunch Prix Fixe option. For $29.00 you get an appetizer, entree and dessert. There are tons of options for the appetizers and entrees. My favorite, and most of the reason I choose to eat at Shun lee, is the Grand Marnier Prawns! They are delicious and never disappoint.
The lettuce wrap appetizer is plentiful and tasty, the soup with a rice cake is also a good option.
There's never a crowd, though sometimes random things happen and they seem to be closed more than normal.
The food was repulsive, shockingly bad for a restaurant that is so well known and that is in this price range.
consistently excellent food, always served very professionally, and priced reasonably for high quality food (which means you get what you paid for).
I've been a fan of Shun Lee West for years. I went on Tuesday after a show at Lincoln Center with a 10pm reservation. The front was darkened, the bar was closed and draped with linen, and the maître 'd rushed us to the table saying we had to order RIGHT NOW as the kitchen was closing soon. The waiter apologized, but we were rushed in and out - we were out the door just after 1030. The food was great as always, but if you don't want to serve customers post-theater, don't take late reservations. This was a real bummer.
We had a wonderful meal. The menu is different from most Chinese restaurants and the selection is excellent. Service was very attentive, friendly and efficient. The food is a bit pricey, but worth it. It's a good Lincoln Center choice.
The soup was cold and had to be sent back. The kitchen had run out of gluten free crepes. We were not made aware of it. The kitchen sent out lettuce without asking if we wanted the substitute. The manager and waiter seemed to not really care but just wanted to get on to the next thing.....
Food was good but very overpriced. 10$ for egg drop soupLOL!?
Fabulous food with generous portions! Great service! Right across from Lincoln Center!
