Conveniently located across from Lincoln Center and a startling revelation in shiny black lacquer, Shun Lee exudes Asian chic with grand authority.
For haute Chinese cuisine, it’s among New York City’s best. Regional offerings include crispy Grand Marnier prawns with honey walnuts (Canton), braised sea bass in hot bean sauce (Hunan) and shredded beef with leeks and hot peppers (Szechwan). Specialties include beggar’s chicken baked in lotus leaves and clay (requires one day’s notice), Hunan tripe, sweetbreads with black mushrooms and of course, Beijing Duck.

Vegetable dumplings tasty but heavy dough. Sea bass dish was superb but lemon chicken dish was totally unacceptable. Heavily breaded and completely dry. Sent it back for chicken w 3 kinds of nuts. Dish was cooked well but way too overloaded w more nuts than chicken. I would not order it again.

Shun Lee is not what it used to be. Service is rudimentary at best. The food is good but very expensive.

Language is a concern. Waiter needs to more knowledgeable. ? Information given does not make sense.
Should be more polite . This is an upscale Chinese restaurant , not one in lower Eastside

IF you like over-priced, oddly poor service and just ok food, then Shun Lee West is the place for you

Food was mediocre and overpriced. Service was effective but the waiters all acted like taking our order and serving us was a bother. Even the man who seated us acted like we were interrupting his day.

Past its prime and overpriced for what it is. Food is little better / more creative than standard take-out, service is rushed (pushing drinks and check even more than what’s typical in Manhattan), transactional and with several misses (e.g., completely forgot starters, then tried to push mains that had obviously been held and were soggy and semi-warm).

Food and service excellent. Great place to eat before Lincoln Center performance. A real staple

I think the food is slipping a little. Also, to accommodate a very large party, the staff used the adjacent table as a food station. Did not appreciate that we could not dine in quite without the bustle of staff all around us.
