For haute Chinese cuisine, it’s among New York City’s best. Regional offerings include crispy Grand Marnier prawns with honey walnuts (Canton), braised sea bass in hot bean sauce (Hunan) and shredded beef with leeks and hot peppers (Szechwan). I've been a fan of Shun Lee West for years. I went on Tuesday after a show at Lincoln Center with a 10pm reservation. The front was darkened, the bar was closed and draped with linen, and the maître 'd rushed us to the table saying we had to order RIGHT NOW as the kitchen was closing soon. The waiter apologized, but we were rushed in and out - we were out the door just after 1030. The food was great as always, but if you don't want to serve customers post-theater, don't take late reservations. This was a real bummer.

We had a wonderful meal. The menu is different from most Chinese restaurants and the selection is excellent. Service was very attentive, friendly and efficient. The food is a bit pricey, but worth it. It's a good Lincoln Center choice.

The soup was cold and had to be sent back. The kitchen had run out of gluten free crepes. We were not made aware of it. The kitchen sent out lettuce without asking if we wanted the substitute. The manager and waiter seemed to not really care but just wanted to get on to the next thing.....

High expectations but food was pricey, most staff was attentive but one waiter haggled over 39 cents at the end of the meal when we gave more than a 20% tip - it was bizarre. The food was very underwhelming.

Hate to write bad reviews, but the food quality has seriously declined here.
I had sea bass which was slimy, and my son pulled a long piece of his hair out of his food, which definitely wasn’t his.
Its time for either a huge overhaul, or the place needs to close down for good.

We have been eating at Shun Lee East and West for years and enjoyed excellent Chinese food. Friday night was an unfortunate exception. The dumplings for the Beijing duck were overlooked and dry. The scallops were mealy and tasteless Hopefully just a bad night in the kitchen but....

My friend and I came for lunch during Restaurant Week. I chose this restaurant because it was one of the few in the area that offered Asian food and had the Restaurant Week special. Service was attentive, but not really welcoming.

Food was the disappointment. We shared. Appetizers were great. Entrees were either very spicy or very bland. Uninteresting. Portions were a good size but each dish could have used something on side, i.e. broccoli or bok choy or something. Prawns were spicy in a THICK sauce and my friend's fish was so bland with only water chestnuts with the fish.

I chose green tea ice cream for dessert that had chucks of ice in it. That tells me that it was a bit old.

No tea or coffee offered or included with the lunch. Water was filled regularly.

So overall, not impressed and will not come back. I think of Restaurant Week as an opportunity to try places that we would not normally go to and see if it is someplace you would like to visit again.

Unlike many other 'name' restaurants, Shun Lee, for restaurant week, offers a good selection and full portions. We go there with and restaurant week, and recommend it. Expensive but good.

The food was delicious. Unfortunately our server did not give us the Restaurant Week menu claiming that it was not available. It turns out that, in fact, the restaurant was a participant in restaurant week. In addition the service while prompt was far from courteous.

The manager did apologize but did not seem very concerned.
