Shun Lee Palace Ratings and Reviews
The decor is acceptable but getting a little old. The wait staff is responsive but not sufficiently attentive or friendly. The food is good but not amazing while the prices would suggest that the preparations should be more unique and sophisticated. I think the Shun Lee on the West side does a better job but it’s time that this venerable Chinese restaurant freshen up its act.
Really gone down hill. The Slippery Chicken was mediocre. Crispy beef was served cold and service was slow. An order of dumplings was only 4 pieces instead of the 6 served other Chinese restaurants. Took 10 minutes to retrieve my coat from coat check despite the fact that there was only one party ahead of me in line.
Shun Lee Palace has been a favorite of mine for thirty years. No trip to NYC would be complete without a trip to this great Chinese place conveniently located on East 55th Street in midtown. I love the quiet atmosphere, the wait staff who know what they're doing because most have been there for years, and the incredibly good food. Don't miss this Asian gem!
My wife and I tried the Shun Lee Palace for the first time last April while we were on our twice yearly trip to NYC. We loved it so much the first time, we just had to go back in October. Everything is great here - the food, the nice friendly and quick service, the atmosphere. It's in a great location mid-town also. If you haven't tried it, you certainly should. It is a very nice experience.
We enjoyed the attentive, gentlemanly service and tasty food, and appreciated the speed with which servers got us through our meal in a short period of time as our schedule required.
My husband is MSG sensitive so he is always delighted to be able to have delicious Chinese food at Shun Lee Palace. I am gluten sensitive so the same could be said for me.
The ants on a hill entree was a little disappointing, as the beef was so pulverized that we could hardly find or taste it!
But we will be back!
Shun Lee is so consistent! We’ve never been disappointed and love this restaurant. Although, I think the next time we visit the restaurant and order the Peking duck rolls, we will ask to build them ourselves. Not a criticism, but would like to personalize the rolls to our taste. Lovely to be able to return to a restaurant with such consistency!
Tho I live in Buffalo, Ny I do get to NYC from time to time.. I always like to go to Shun Lee Palace when I can.. I have been going there for probably 30 years and the quality and ambiance has remained constant.. It is always a happy experience, with good service and wonderful food..
Service was horrible. About 5 minutes after we sat down, 3 different wait staff came over to take or orders. We explained that we didn't have a chance to look at the menu and would need more time. After one waiter left another one came over to take our drink orders. We felt rushed.
All the food was cold and the vegetable fried rice smelt a bit off.
I really expected better.
