Shun Lee Palace Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed the attentive, gentlemanly service and tasty food, and appreciated the speed with which servers got us through our meal in a short period of time as our schedule required.
My husband is MSG sensitive so he is always delighted to be able to have delicious Chinese food at Shun Lee Palace. I am gluten sensitive so the same could be said for me.
The ants on a hill entree was a little disappointing, as the beef was so pulverized that we could hardly find or taste it!
But we will be back!
Shun Lee is so consistent! We’ve never been disappointed and love this restaurant. Although, I think the next time we visit the restaurant and order the Peking duck rolls, we will ask to build them ourselves. Not a criticism, but would like to personalize the rolls to our taste. Lovely to be able to return to a restaurant with such consistency!
Tho I live in Buffalo, Ny I do get to NYC from time to time.. I always like to go to Shun Lee Palace when I can.. I have been going there for probably 30 years and the quality and ambiance has remained constant.. It is always a happy experience, with good service and wonderful food..
Service was horrible. About 5 minutes after we sat down, 3 different wait staff came over to take or orders. We explained that we didn't have a chance to look at the menu and would need more time. After one waiter left another one came over to take our drink orders. We felt rushed.
All the food was cold and the vegetable fried rice smelt a bit off.
I really expected better.
First a table in the hall (wondering if Open Table reservations get second tier tables). Then appetizers came with main course. And the deboned fish was full of bones. When we complained they said they would adjust the check - they didn't. We used to like Shun Lee but something seems to have gone wrong. Hope they can fix it.
We had a wonderful, large well-spaced table appropriate for the reunion of our friends and for quiet talk. The staff was delightful-attentive, warm, charming, welcoming. The service was excellent throughout the meal. The problem was the food; other than the dumplings, which were good, the rest was not very good. The dry sautéed beef was hard (as if fried) and had little taste or spice, the peking duck was tough, the shrimp with XO sauce didn't have any sauce even though the shrimp themselves were nicely done. We hadn't been here for years and our memories of the food were of wonderful food; we were disappointed this time.
An overdo visit back to Shun Lee Palace reminded us all that if you are looking for authentic Chinese cuisine plus key Western Chinese favorites that Shun Lee Palace is at the top of the list! Chinese food done perfectly! And combined with top notch professional service!
So disappointing! Peking duck was good. Everything else we ate was incredibly mediocre. 2shrimp dishes-both tasteless. Chow fun -not worth eating. I remembered the shun Lee on west side as being delicious. I presumed this location would have the same food. It definitely does not. I am so sorry I wasted a precious dining opportunity in Manhattan at this place. I would never forgo back and would not recommend to anyone.
Service was poor. 2 waiters for the entire restaurant and busboys to help them is not sufficient. I was rudely waived off by a busboy because he was too busy to help me. I just wanted my water filled! The Beijing duck was outstanding. The ants on a branch (house specialty) was not very good.
Very enjoyable experience. All staff very accommodating and very attentive. It was our anniversary and they treated us to a very special dessert...Along with many good wishes. We had a lovely evening there and look forward to going again when we are in New York City.
