SHUMI JAPANESE RIDGEWOOD WELCOMES ALL AND WILL SERVE YOU GUYS AS BEST AS WE CAN AND WILL FULFILL YOUR EXPECTATIONS.
Spicy tuna roll topped with caramelized sushi ebi (shrimp), spicy mayo, eel sauce, scallion, furikake crunch
Chef's choice sashimi (21pc)
Steamed shrimp dumpling
Absolutely delicious! Great indoor vibe and great service. And it’s BYOB!
Delicious food good service and atmosphere. Definitely would return
I sat at the counter solo to watch the great chefs at fork. Their hands while making sushi look like they are conducting an elegant orchestra
The sashimi is fresh, cold and delicious
Delicious food! Prices are a bit high but worth the quality
Great place and nice ambiance, service was excellent, and food was exquisite
fairly decent night. was busy, so the servers and buser was running around.
as a fellow chef, i understand fully, however specifically for tasting menus, AND SUSHI at that?! needs to be served within the first minute.
at any case, got the special 120$ omakase, was ok. ramen as the last course? not even decent and tasted so bland.
would i come back here? prob not. would i recommend it? yeah. But just get the regular menu items and not the tasting menu
Items were not available like Uni and Unagi. Small roll selections and no specials. The waiter called it "Sushi lite". Anyway, delicious and fresh! I'll be back.
Food was great. Many menu options and price is just right.
I did not even had a chance to have food at Shumi as I was not let to sit outside with my dog. Apparently it looks like it’s the only place in the whole Universe which does not allow dogs to quietly sit outside at 8 PM, when there are at least 4 empty tables around and possible to choose the most remote sit. Besides, it’s never mentioned as a written rule nighter on a web page nor on the door that it’s not dog friendly.
Always nice food but the servers don’t know who’s food is whose and forget to bring some things. Long time to get a drink other than tap water.
Service was great. I personally likes most of the rolls and pieces but the sushi itself was very small so it was really hard to get the flavor as the rice was overwhelming. My husband wasn’t so happy. He thought the rice had to much vinegar and it killed the tast of the sushi.
Portions are ridiculously small. The service was horrible. The fish quality was very good but not worth it at all
Elevated sushi this more auténtico than most places in ridgewood.
10/10 amazing food, atmosphere, and service. Shrimp crunch is 🔥
Nice lunch. Good food. It's a lovely place to go for a nice sushi meal. Try it.
I have been a regular customer of this restaurant for a few years, both for takeout and in person dining. Our last two experiences were not good. Service was very slow. They appear understaffed and the staff seem stressed; service is unorganized. I was there last night with my son to celebrate my birthday. He was served his entire meal and we waited 45 more minutes but I never got my food, other than a serving of ala carte sushi that I had ordered ( 2 pieces). I finally just asked for the check and left without eating. This restaurant is more expensive than most sushi places. In the past we have been willing to pay the premium because of the quality. While the food is good, it’s not that good, and not worth it. We will not be returning at this point.
Instead of doing the Omakase we decided to go to Shumi and try out their signature rolls. They were some of the best we’ve tasted extremely fresh and expertly made. A new favorite.
My wife and I eat here nearly every week and absolutely live it. We love the food , specifically…all very good. Wide variety of options and delicious.
Good food, good service!
Excellent food and service!!! Staffs are so professional and nice. Will definitely visit again!!!
Service was very poor and food wasn’t great either. We have waited almost 15min after seated for a glass of water. My fiancé went inside and picked up our chopsticks so that we can eat. Sushi wasn’t great either. However, they were pretty fast bringing the check. Dissatisfied and disappointed!
Went back for the regular omakase and it was outstanding. The fish was the freshest I’ve had in a long time. Loved the energy of the staff and the Chef’s behind the sushi bar. Thank you Shumi!
Omakase is the move, best sushi I’ve had anywhere in no easily
Outstanding food and friendly service ! Highly recommended !
David and the Master Chief are amazing! The food they server is consistently out of this world! We have been coming to Shumi for a number of years now, and are happy to recommend it to all sushi lovers.
Outstanding omikase. So much food!! Delicate flavors of authentic Japanese cuisine.
The omakase was amazing, a really good experience, the service was really nice and kind
Ordered Chef Special Omakase, best sushi in town !
Great restaurant that always hits or exceeds the mark!
Great appetizers, sushi, and ramen.
Awesome as always
Freshest sashimi and did I mention the Shumi Roll!! Can’t get enough! 🍣
Shumi is a gem! We did the omakase special menu with chef/owner, David. He was so personable and detailed in his explanation of the food. The food was incredible - best meal we've had in NJ! Definitely going back, and soon! Must go!
NYC prices with portions smaller than NYC. Uneventful
Terribly inexperienced staff and understaffed.
It would be hard to get me to go back.
One of the dishes we ordered was the pork Katsu.
Probably the worst cut of pork I’ve ever had in this dish.
Sat on the street
It took forever to get a table and to order.
Unfortunately this rating is for 8/14 reservation I had on a Saturday night. 6:30 reservation was canceled on me at 5:30.pm.
don’t know what’s going on at restaurant but service staff has changed and things are befuddled and erratic.
Not sure if it’s worth the aggravation.
By far my fav Japanese restaurant including anything in NYC.
Omakase was absolutely wonderful! I've had it there before and it was even better this time. High quality fish beautifully prepared. Highly recommended!
Sat at sushi counter and ordered crispy shrimp appetizer and sushi and sashimi deluze entree. It was a generous size and came with salad or miso soup. Very standard miso soup and salad, but sushi was best I've tried in Jersey. Fish was excellent quality. Only complaint is that counter seats did not give a good view of the sushi chefs. There were containers and other things blocking the view of the chefs making the sushi, so was not worth sitting at the counter. Also, the service was not very attentive. I sat down and it took a while for a waiter to ask if I wanted my wine uncorked and served for BYO.
Food was delicious, and fish was fresh. Omakase special provided generous meal portions overall. However, facility was not as clean as before, music and noise level was loud, and restaurant temperature was very warm and a bit uncomfortable (and I am a person who is usually cold in most places).
