Food and service are always excellent at Shula's. It's a very good location for a business meeting, which is what this reservation was for. I rated a little lower on "value" because we can find an excellent steak at other restaurants in Gainesville for 25-30% cheaper than Shula's is. Our guests always comment on the high prices. Other than price, this is one of our first choices for business dinners.
We had dinner at the Naples location the week before, it was fabulous. We expect he same, but unfortunately it was not. My husbands steak was under done, we both wanted twice baked potatoes, they were out and it was a Saturday night.
Had a great meal! Excellent food. Eugene was an excellent waiter who too great care of us. Eugene and Don made our anniversary dinner special!
Jarrod was excellent!
It was a wonderful experience, and the food was GREAT as well! The apple pie dessert is to die for!
Great place, people and food. I am coming back hungry with more people for dinner.
Decor was more modern and cold than the typical Shula's ambiance. It seems to be the hotel breakfast and lunch restaurant by day and converts to Shula's by evening. The place was loud due primarily, to a large party celebrating a birthday. Food and service were excellent. We had a small issue that I won't mention but the manager was right on it and did a great job. Overall, I would go back.
Had an excellent meal. Service was attentive. Would definitely go there again. Great place for a special occasion.
We really enjoyed our visit this 3rd time . Food & service were excellent .
On our 2 previous visits the kitchen had been exceedingly slow - thankfully they had it corrected. A wonderful night out.
Absolutely wonderful. Ashley was our server and was A1! Food was delicious!
It was great and not over crowded. We will definitely return
We went for my daughter’s birthday! A wonderful meal, the steaks were all cooked to perfection. The noise level was very low. We could hold a conversation without interruption! Our waiter, Tristen, was excellent. Very attentive but not intrusive.
The service was some of the worst I have ever had. The steak orders were put in incorrectly and they did not even offer to comp them. They want to hold the two steaks that were correctly ordered in some kind of a warmer instead of remaking all the steaks so that the whole table of 4 could dine together. The service was inattentive. Dessert was comped but this hardly made up for ruining 50$ each steaks!!! Will not go back!! Will return to Embers!!
The food was fine, but not stellar. I felt that the food should have been more flavorful. Was not a good value for the price, which runs about twice as much as anyplace else I normally eat.
Great atmosphere and service.
Service was slow took 2 and a half hours to complete dinner
I have been to shulas on non-holidays and had a very nice experience that is worth the money(on occasion). However, most recently, my boyfriend and I went on Valentine’s Day and I will not be returning on a holiday ever again. We are dieting and had been planning to have a free meal(the scalloped potatoes are my favorite) on Valentine’s Day.
One of the most disappointing things about the evening was when we first arrived we were informed that it was a set 4 course meal with no substitutions(unless you wanted chicken or a filet as your 3rd instead of a small portion of ribeye). They had not notified ANYONE in advance because we would have canceled our reservations and many of the people around us walked out when they found out after sitting down. Management really screwed this one up, people do not come for a set menu that they cannot opt out of at a place like that.
We gave it a chance anyways and I was then really disappointed with the food. The first course was a tasteless mound of crab, second was a small halibut filet that was dry around the edges with a small portion of bland spinach and one baby sliced red potato. 40 minutes passed between the 3rd and 4th course(which was really frustrating because that seems like why there was a set menu...to avoid delayed wait times) but the small portion of steak was tasty. The dessert was also pretty tasty.
Nothing was done to make up for their screw up(i.e. maybe they could have added a wine pairing to each course instead of charging the $40 more per person). It was already $75/person and not worth it in my opinion considering what was served I feel like they made a large profit that was not deserved. The only thing that made me not walk out was our server was very apologetic and pleasant. Moral of the story, don’t go on holidays, but my experience was so bad I’m not sure I’ll be going back regardless of what day it is. I’ll find my potatoes elsewhere.
Originally booked reservations in advance for 5 w/friends coming into town. Then needed increased to 9 - not realizing it would be Valentines Day. Their hostess, Maria, was awesome. She discussed my change w/her manager and they were willing to accommodate us. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived that our table was in their ‘private room.’ It was perfect for us because we were not a ‘quiet’ group — laughing & carrying on as friends do. Our server, Jordan, was also super — efficient, professional, polite — a delight. My only suggestion would be to have offered a couple of shareable sides — veggie & potatoes - with the Pre-fix Menu that evening. I enjoyed our meal but really would have rather just ordered from the regular menu. All in all, we had a great experience and I recommend this Shula’s in Gainesville, FL.
We were there for the pre-fix Valentine’s Day dinner. The food was great. We ordered the wine pairing with the dinner and the glasses of wine always came out after we were done with our course.
This is not even close to the shulias in Orlando. The service and quality of food is not up to par for the price that you pay. I had even called in prior to making the reservation and only one thing that was discussed actually happened. What is even more disturbing is that I consider Shulas to be a upscale restaurant. The name of the loung inside of the hotel/restaurant is called the no name lounge. This is definitely not what we have come to expect from Shulas. We won’t be back to the Gainesville location and may have thoughts on returning to Orlando.
The evening was everything I expected. I wanted to take my wife out to an elegant, celebratory dinner. We were both very impressed with the experience. The server was very personal and professional. I was very curious about the aged beef. Now I am curious about the Chocolate Souffle. Thank you for coming to Gainesville. I look forward to returning at the next opportunity.
Exceptional food. Service with Jordan was wonderful.
We frequent many Shula’s restaurants around the country. The Gainesville location holds to what we expect from Shula’s. All employees we encountered were friendly. The food is great as always. A special treat came when the manager approached our table. She engaged in pleasant conversation and treated us a valued customers. Sydney is among the best of the wait staff in the Shula’s chain. We will return frequently because the Gainesville location is close to home.
My wife and I enjoyed our experience. The steaks were great. Our server was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. The only real issue I had with the night was giving us a football to read the steak menu off of. That’s probably one of the tackiest things I had happen to me at a restaurant of this quality. Don’t get me wrong Mr. Shula is one of the greatest coaches of all time. If you want to treat it as a Hard Rock setting and have memorabilia on showcase, that would be great. But don’t put a football on my plate when I am about to spend $400 on a meal.
Amazing Service and food! We had a blast celebrating there! We will definitely be back:)
This place just doesn't disappoint. Yes, it is pricey, but you get what you pay for every time.,,high quality food in a very nice atmosphere. We have been here twice in just a few weeks time and had Eugene as our waiter both times. He's been great.
Outstanding service & menu, easy to locate. Server, she had Very good description of menu items.
I had a fantastic meal here for business a few days before and decided to take friends for a birthday celebration. One of the party had arrived earlier and was seated already at a table next to a "go through" door that brought drinks from the bar and some of the food. It was a constant, noisy distraction. I did not want to make a fuss to move and potentially make my one dinner companion upset in case she picked the table, even though there were many open tables. It took 10 minutes for the waitress to ask for our drink orders and another 10 minutes to be brought our drinks. She abruptly left and did not reappear for another 10 minutes to take our dinner orders. Another 10 minutes to get bread and probably 30 minutes before we were brought our food from the time we ordered. The brussel sprouts were burned, my burrata salad was so salty it was almost inedible and my appetizer was cold. The birthday guest got a nice steak. We were served either by the busboy, our assigned waitress or another stand in who looked very unhappy to be there. We then ordered another round of drinks which were not brought until after we all finished our dinner. The food and service was so poor especially given the exorbitant cost that I had to apologize to all the members of the party. I was actually called by a woman from Shula's the next day who was shocked at my review and said the manager would like to follow up with me. And I have heard nothing since. We have a dearth of fine dining in Gainesville but do not waste your time and money here.
Our experience at Shula’s was excellent! Everything we ordered was outstanding! The service was great! Tristen, our server was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We will be back!
Our waitress was amazing and so sweet! Quiet restaurant and food was excellent.
We visited for my husband's birthday. It was just the two of us. The restaurant is stylish, and quiet enough to have a conversation. The service was friendly and perfectly timed. The steaks (a rib eye and a Kansas City strip) were cooked just as we asked and the sides (crab mac & cheese and creamed spinach) were excellent. Shula's is pricey, but for a special evening out, you can't go wrong.
Been to a couple of Shula's in different locations. Gainesville was just open so thought we would try it for a meeting with old friends that were in town. Was impressed with the ambiance, the food, and the service. All were up to the standard that I had experienced elsewhere. The restaurant conversion from the previous occupant was a vast improvement, and the staff were excellent. At this branch they have inside and outside dining. As the weather was not suitable for outside dining the night we were there we did not use that option, but I could see that it would be attractive for some occasions, if the weather permitted. Overall, the food was excellent: we had both steaks and seafood, and all were prepared excellently. The sides were superb also, though not quiet as large as those that I remember from the Epcot branch, but truthfully those were excessive, so what we had this night were probably just right.
Overall, a very pleasant experience, and an enjoyable time. I would recommend it to anyone.
Restaurant is beautiful. Service was superb. Loved the food.
New Years Eve price fix dinner. Excellent. Very good service.
We always have a great meal with excellent service and atmosphere when dining at Shula. We are never disappointed
Went for NyE dinner. Fixed menu was the only option. Service and food were good but not great for the price. Good for special evening considering the cost
Great food - very good quality cooked like ordered. Good decor feels cozy
It was our first visit to Shula's and we went for our anniversary. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. The restaurant was not very busy but there were a few loud moments from some patrons that were thoroughly enjoying the libations. We will definitely visit again.
Shula's is relatively new in town so I wait at least 30 days to allow them to work out the kinks. They seem to have accomplished this. We went with another couple during the holiday season. Our expectation was that the restaurant would be crowded, however, that was not the case. The decor was very pleasing and comfortable. The menu very broad, expensive and ala carte. The food was good but not superior. I will likely return, but not frequently.
The food and ambience were great! The service was slow and they were not at all busy!
