Welcome to Shrub.
Modern Cafe Culture in the heart of Chester.
Whether it's a coffee in the morning, a light lunch on the terrace with a glass of wine from our eclectic selection, to an intimate dinner for two in the restaurant, we aim to offer something for everyone at every time of the day.
If you're not hungry join us for drinks in our bar area where you can sample some of our delicious in house cocktails.

Fantastic food - our non-vegan friends were impressed! The restaurant was very accommodating for a party of 8 on a Saturday night and the service was very friendly and easy-going. No errors made on our orders. We sat outside - our choice, knowing it might be a little cold. One heater was broken but we were just about warm enough.

Shrub remains incredible, my favourite vegan restaurant in Chester (and also the favourite restaurant in Chester of a few of my non-vegan friends). First time getting the Sunday Roast and it was excellent. Service is always very friendly and helpful.

From the minute we walked in, we were defat with in a very friendly manner by the guy on the desk. Although we had a booking for much later, he was delighted to move our reservation. This summed up his manner in dealing with us, his friendliness and interest in us as people and his overall service. Excellent! Think his name was Alex. The two waitresses also were very friendly, polite and prompt with their service. As for the food, it was delicious and every portion ( a decent size) was tasty and the soft drinks were refreshing. The location, especially on lovely Sunday lunchtime, was ideal and from us being the first customers, we were soon part of a bigger ambiance. There was no rush and no feeling of being swamped and the quality of the lunchtime service remained very high. Brilliant!

10/10 as always - the food is incredible, you can clearly see the care and attention to detail in every dish. Really lovely service as well. One of the best vegan spots in the North West!

Great food with great service. All the dishes were superb including the puddings. Good variety, some spicy for those who like that and some delicate for those who prefer theirs milder. Didn't have wine but the list looks well thought out for vegan food. Service might be a bit matey for some but very friendly and helpful. Staff were available but unobtrusive when food was at the table and were happy for us to take our time, which I really appreciate. Music a little bit loud for me but probably not loud enough for some. A really enjoyable meal in comfortable surroundings, we will be going back.
