Service was awful, would never go again and no desire to stay at the resort
Greeted at hostess desk and showed to our table by Katie. She said "You can rearrange the furniture however you like." as opposed to resetting the table so one of the diners' back would face the fabulous view instead of a wall.
Soup almost fell onto one diners' lap when served. Wedge salad - classic & difficult to get wrong - was almost inedible, no blue cheese to be found but LOTS of vinegar in the dressing. Pasta dish w/ meat sauce had barely any meat. Petite filet was maybe 4 oz., most restaurants' standard is 6 oz. Asparagus was woody.
Glass of Caymus wine at $28 was the best part of the meal.
Ridiculously overpriced with poor service. Especially disappointing since we are locals and love the location. Will not be returning.
Hostess was very rude. Ruined the evening. Food is mediocre.
Ir took 45 minutes to get bread- over an hr to get our apps- which were cold. When we told the manager, he dropped an “Fbomb” at the table.
1 of our cocktails came in a chipped glass at which point it was exchanged for another glass- which took almost 20 minutes.
The food and presentation was fabulous but the feint of the house was poorly managed.
The online menu needs to be updated. Was really craving the short ribs. Chicken entree was so small. The Octopus was spot on. The view and weather were perfect. Service was ok.
Beautiful last night and you were. Great atmosphere and sunset
It was everything. From the bead and water to the dessert. The lobster stuffed with macaroni and cheese with truffles was perfection. Beautiful set set on the patio overlooking everything. Amazing!!!
Service started off not that great. Was confused as to who our server was. Had to ask. Once a server came she made up for the rest of the dinner
Poor service, noisy, long wait, small portions, too expensive
Spectacular. We’ve been to gurney’s showfish restaurant on star island many times and had an occasion to be in Newport. It was an overall fantastic experience.Yvonne our server couldn’t have been more attentive, sweet and fast. We watched the sunset while enjoying excellent drinks and an amazing lobster/Mac and cheese dish that was off the charts! And the kimchi lobster fried rice is a must for the table, as are the fresh shucked oysters! Bravo Showfish! Can’t wait to come back.
The staff was friendly, very courteous and helpful. The food was disappointing, especially given the a la carte style menu. The calamari was plentiful and finish and treatment fine. But the calamari itself was rubbery. My spouse and I would have enjoyed less quantity in exchange for better quality. The asparagus spears were large and plentiful but not very sweet or tender. If only they had been small. The halibut was dry near the edges but okay in the center. Our bill came to about $150 for a shared calamari appetizer, two halibut entrees, a shared asparagus side, and one soda. The entrees were $46 each. We expect those prices for well prepared, quality menu items in a nice restaurant, but other than for the servers and assistants, it was pretty much. The atmosphere did not match the prices. Thankful for the waitstaff!
Probably a lifetime top ten terrible dining experience
They set us in the bar area. We had to talk over a DJ blasting music. The people next to us was a group on 20 year old people who were in swimsuits (guys). Had to ask for bread three times. The food was good but not worth the money related to the casual dinner feel you will have to sit through.
The food was phenomenal and our server Srdan was excellent! The perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or treat yourself.
Overall good, but waited a long time for food with no updates from our waiter
Under staffed. Ordered halibut which was one of two fish entrees on menu. They did not have an substituted with scallops. Fish vs seafood? Restaurant is in Newport, how do you run out of fish?
The location is fabulous. The food was great. Our drinks and apps were timely. But after we ordered dinner, we never saw our server or food for an hour. We actually had to get up and ask for them. I realize it’s apres-covid and restaurants are short staffed, but an hour is too long.
The food is delicious, and the staff were super friendly
This was our second time at Showfish. We went to the showfish in Montauk last year. This wasn’t a great experience as last time. The angry lobster saved us, the best thing on the menu. But the filet mignon was not cooked to preferred desire. We asked for medium, it came out rare. And the chicken entree was beyond salty. We didn’t eat our entrees. And the server didn’t even check on us at all. When asked if we liked. We explained what happened. But it was already 2 hrs into dinner. Like no. We are over it. It was very disappointing. I don’t see myself coming back to this location.
Great food! Our waitress was very attentive, funny and interactive with us. I loved the atmosphere
Beautiful restaurant, friendly staff, great food and drinks. ❤️
We arrived at 8 o’clock for an 815 reservation and were told we would be seared on time finally we were seated at 8:45 ordered our dinner for 15 minutes later and didn’t get served until 1010, one hour and 10 minutes after we place the order
Very disappointing. They did comp some of the meals and drinks but we did not go there for that that
Server disappeared for 20 minutes after introducing himself so we requested a new server. Disappointed that a fish restaurant has only 2 fish dishes on its menu, salmon and branzino. Our server recommended Wagyu beef and 3 lb lobster which are the most expensive items on the menu. Food was good. Atmosphere was pretty but not worth the money.
We had a delightful experience here. The food was delicious, ambience was breath taking and service was impeccable. We left a little sad it’s a pop up but we felt lucky to get in on the experience. We hope to return again soon!! FYI definitely try the Lobster fried rice, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever tasted!
Just a perfect view and delicious food! Highly recommend
Unfortunately very slow and disappointing service. The food seemed like it had been reheated. Overall a disappointing experience and we wouldn't go back.
Dinner was delicious! Loved the Angry lobster - and really appreciated the staff observing an allergy noted when the reservation made (without needing any reminder)!
Food was better than the service or the music. The ambience should have been great, but the music was loud and obtrusive. Too much 50’s be-bop. Waitress not happy with us—she Even rolled her eyes at us. Won’t return.
Delicious food and great views.
Good was incredible. Our service was less than par for the amount that we spent.
Worst service I’ve ever experienced. $150 steak came out cold twice, bad salads, dirty plates sat on the table until the steak came out, upwards of 30 mins after we were done with the salads. Waiter didn’t even realize we were there, we had to ask for someone to take our order. Very bad experience.
Experience was awesome, there was a live DJ and the food was delicious. Great experience!!
Close your ears! This has got to be the noisiest restaurant in Newport. It is regretable because the food and the service can be quite good. But Gurney's management has carried its "hot resort vibe" into Showfish, which it doesn't need. The cauliflower and tuna poke apps were nicely presented and delicious. The scallops were very large and tasty. The spinach side, too, was quite good, but the portion was far too large even if shared by two people. I have been to this space several times and our server was the best I had there. I think they have a good chef and train their servers well, but this effort is all lost in the noise. They need to pay attention to this all hard-surfaced room and attenuate the sound somehow. Otherwise, close your ears!
Service was so much worse than any of us have ever had. We were in town for a family wedding. So, we made reservations for our family of six to enjoy a special dinner the evening before the wedding day. After a long wait upon being seated, our waitress wouldn’t let us order an appetizer with our drinks. She said she was only allowed to turn in one ticket to the kitchen. So, we asked for a minute. She gave us 25 before coming back to our table. They were out of three menu items. But, we were hungry and ordered. It took forever to get our food and then when we wanted our check, our waitress was MIA again. She waited another 25 minutes or so before coming back. Then she told us she couldn’t separate our bills. When we finally got our check, another 15 or so minutes, she had a 20 percent gratuity charge. We typically top 22 percent or more (especially since COVID) but she really didn’t earn this in any way. She made our experience miserable. Food is good but definitely overpriced if this is how they run things.
We had an excellent breakfast with great food, great service and a beautiful view of the water.
Scallops exceptional. Broccolini “Caesar” had no lettuce but was superb. Chicken was very good, service was good. Room was noisy 1/3rd filled. There are 4 rooms- outside, bar, and two inside.
Great experience. Staff and management are very accommodating despite a very busy night on a holiday weekend.
Food is fabulous.
Amazing meal! The truffle fries were the best fries I’ve ever had! Can’t wait to come back next time we’re in Newport!
If you want one of the best views in Newport, go here! Service was extremely slow at first, to the point of my husband going to the bar to serve ourselves. After we flagged down a waitress, everything was outstanding. Food was remarkable, although pricey. We found the host to be very snobby, but the waitress was wonderful. Looking forward to a return visit!
